Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for

The Maui Effect

Taylor Jenkins Reid meets 100 Foot Wave in this dazzling new romance by USA TODAY bestselling author Sara Ackerman.

'Iwa Young’s life is high in the Maui rainforest. As a field biologist, she’s happiest in company with trees and birds and waterfalls. When a developer arrives with plans for a so-called "eco resort" in the middle of a forest full of endangered species, 'Iwa puts all her energy into the fight to protect it. But a chance encounter threatens to distract her. His name is Dane Parsons, and he’s a big-wave surfer from California. 'Iwa has a few unbreakable rules, and at the top of her list: never date a surfer.

Dane Parsons is part of an underground group of big-wave riders, and his connection to the ocean runs deep. When he meets 'Iwa, he can’t get her out of his mind. But 'Iwa wants nothing to do with Dane until he offers to help protect her beloved forest and waterfall. Always on the hunt for the ultimate ride, Dane suddenly glimpses something even greater, but just out of reach.

In this thunderous love story, we travel deep into the Maui rainforest and hop across the globe from Hawai'i to California to Portugal, chasing waves the size of nine-story buildings—where the unthinkable is always just one breath away.

I have never surfed, but I think it's an incredible sport which I enjoy reading about. I am looking forward to some of that in this story, but I am also excited about all the places I will visit - California, Hawaii, Portugal, so many places to see. This author is new-to-me, but I am familiar with her historical fiction which have been well received. Hoping this delivers all I am expecting.

The Life Intended
 by Kristin Harmel
Published by Gallery Books on December 30, 2014
Age/Genres: Adult, Ficition
Goodreads

From the author of the international bestseller The Sweetness of Forgetting, named one of the Best Books of Summer 2012 by Marie Claire magazine, comes a captivating novel about the struggle to overcome the past when our memories refuse to be forgotten.

In this richly told story where Sliding Doors meets P.S. I Love You, Kristin Harmel weaves a heart-wrenching tale that asks: what does it take to move forward in life without forgetting the past?

After her husband's sudden death over ten years ago, Kate Waithman never expected to be lucky enough to find another love of her life. But now she's planning her second walk down the aisle to a perfectly nice man. So why isn't she more excited?

At first, Kate blames her lack of sleep on stress. But when she starts seeing Patrick, her late husband, in her dreams, she begins to wonder if she's really ready to move on. Is Patrick trying to tell her something? Attempting to navigate between dreams and reality, Kate must uncover her husband's hidden message. Her quest leads her to a sign language class and into the New York City foster system, where she finds rewards greater than she could have imagined.

I added this book to my TBR a long while ago. You all know how much I like a good grief and loss book, and the synopsis calls it a "heart-wrenching tale". Sounds perfect for me! I anticipate this being a story of healing, and those are always very uplifting.

  1. It looks like in 2016 I gave The Life Intended 4 stars - I wish I could remember more of it! I've read one of Sara Ackerman's historical fictions, and this sounds quite different!

    1. I just finished it this morning. It was so good! I was hoping something was true and then it was, and the tears flowed. Really good book. I saw that she does historical fiction, but I don't really read those.

  2. I don't think I've read a book that features surfing. It should be fun to "visit" those locals. I hope you enjoy both books, Sam!
