Six Degrees of Separation

Six Degrees of Separation is hosted by Kate at booksaremyfavoriteandbest. A book is selected each month as the starting point for us to link to six other books. I go a bit rouge by selecting my own book from the previous months’ Five Star Friday, but still maintain the spirit of the meme.

The international phenomenon that has sold over a million copies in Japan, If Cats Disappeared from the World is a funny, heartwarming, and profound meditation on the meaning of life.

The postman’s days are numbered. Estranged from his family, living alone with only his cat Cabbage to keep him company, he was unprepared for the doctor’s diagnosis that he has only months to live. But before he can tackle his bucket list, the Devil appears to make him an offer: In exchange for making one thing in the world disappear, our narrator will get one extra day of life. And so begins a very bizarre week…

With each object that disappears the postman reflects on the life he’s lived, his joys and regrets, and the people he’s loved and lost.

Genki Kawamura’s timeless tale is a moving story of loss and reconciliation, of one man’s journey to discover what really matters most in life.

  1. You know I love a senior character - I'd tie Arthur Pepper in there somehow!

    1. Arthur Pepper owns a piece of my heart. Adored him! I recently "met" Eddie Winston who is also in my senior hall of fame.

  4. I love your chains, Sam. There are always some books that I haven't read and that I find interesting. Eddie Winston's Looking for Love is the one that I am adding this week. I love books about older characters and I haven't seen this one around.

    1. Did you read Cronin's last book? It also features an incredible cross generational friendship. It is about people who are terminal, but it's rather uplifting.
