Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for

The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife

‘Would you mind terribly, old boy, if I borrowed the rest of your life? I promise I’ll take excellent care of it.'

Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car he’d return it washed and polished, with a full tank of petrol. The problem is, he has no one left to borrow from. At 82 he’s desperately lonely, broke and on the brink of homelessness.

But Fred's luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of cranky Bernard Greer at Wattle River Nursing Home. Suddenly he has a roof over his head, warm meals in his belly and, most importantly, the chance to be part of a family again.

Fingers crossed his poker face is in better nick than his prostate or the jig is up.

As Fred walks in Bernard’s shoes (and underpants), he discovers more about the man’s past - and what it would take to return a broken life to mint condition.

What do you do when you have no home or future prospects? Maybe you borrow someone else's life like Frederick Fife did. I have great luck with these "senior stories". The tend to be heartwarming and uplifiting, and those are two traits I love to see in a book. Stories where people assume another's identity tend to be quite fun as well, and I am always here for laughs. But most of all, this is about a lonely man happening into a situation that gives him the chance at having a family. You know you heard me "awwww" in your head. I am absolutely looking forward to meeting Frederick.

Sweet Spot
 by Rebecca Jenshak

Lincoln Reeves may be a pro golfer and revered swing coach, but when I meet him, he is just one more person telling me I’m not good enough.

So, I do what any girl in my position would do. I tell him to get lost and take his arrogant, annoying smirk with him.

I never expect to see him again. I certainly don’t expect to run into him that same night after one too many tequila shots.

Turns out that he’s kind of a big deal. Okay, fine, a really big deal. In fact, he might be the one person who can take my game to the next level.

Convincing him to help will be difficult.

Not throwing my club at his handsome face when he makes me work harder than I thought humanly possible will be excruciating.

But not falling for him will be the hardest thing of all.

I don't remember when I got this book, but it is high time I read something from my shelf. I am a lover of sports romances, and I have had good fortune with Jenshak's books in the past. I had lamented how most sports romances tend to be hockey, football, or baseball. so, hooray, this one involves golf which is one of the lesser featured sports. I anticipate this being fun and making me laugh which is all I can ask for.
