Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for
The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood
Published by Berkley on July 2, 2024
Age/Genres: Adult, Fiction, Romance
Goodreads
A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up…
If she wasn’t dead already, Delphie would be dying of embarrassment. Not only did she just die by choking on a microwaveable burger, but now she’s standing in her ‘shine like a star’ nightie in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen. And he’s smiling at her.
As they start to chat, everything else becomes background noise. That is until someone comes running out of a door, yelling something about a huge mistake, and sends the dreamy stranger back down to earth. And here Delphie was thinking her luck might be different in the afterlife.
When Delphie is offered a deal in which she can return to earth and reconnect with the mysterious stranger, she jumps at the opportunity to find her possible soulmate and a fresh start at life. But in a city of millions, Delphie is going to have to listen to her heart, learn to ask for help, and perhaps even see the magic in the life she’s leaving behind…
I am all over this premise. A recently deceased woman meets the one, but must find him in ten days to get that second chance at love. This is interesting and full of possibility. I mean, I already care so much and want this woman to find her soulmate. Sounds like a story I will be fully invested in.
Class Mom by Laurie Gelman
Published by St. Martin's Griffin on July 24, 2018
Age/Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Fiction
Goodreads
Laurie Gelman’s debut novel about a year in the life of a kindergarten class mom—a brilliant send-up of the petty and surprisingly cutthroat terrain of parent politics.
Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom—or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it’s her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max—this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA President sees her as the “wisest” candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.
From recording parents’ response times to her emails about helping in the classroom, to requesting contributions of “special” brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen’s methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen’s past, a hyper-sensitive “allergy mom,” a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife-wannabe, causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.
I added this book to my TBR back when it first came out. Those years may be behind me, but I still remember the mommy politics from those days. Being as I am no longer in it, I can also look back and laugh, and that's what I think will happen when I read this book. Looking forward to the nostalgia (for me) and the humor.
Let us know in the comments!
I've been adoring afterlife fiction this year, and so The Love of My Afterlife is now officially on my TBR! Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I read some afterlife fiction, but all the good buzz has me interested in this one.
DeleteI've got Liz Moore's The God of the Woods on tap to read next. It is one of my most anticipated titles of the year!
ReplyDeleteWow! It cannot be a good thing that the camp owner's kids are disappearing. I hope this lives up to your expectations.
DeleteI'm not usually a big fan of rom-com's or humor in my romance, but the Greenwood book sounds hilarious. Just the synopsis has me giggling. Death by choking on a microwave burger, and standing there is a nightie... now that's funny. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like there was a rom-com movie where one of the characters died in the same sorta way and came back. It's a fuzzy memory. It does sound funny, and I love funny books.
DeleteI read Class Mom years ago and loved it. It was so funny. I keep meaning to read more from that series. I'm also really excited about The Love of My Afterlife. Great picks this week.
ReplyDeleteI devoured that book. It was so funny. I definitely will continue the Class Mom books.
DeleteThe Love Of My Afterlife does sound like it would be good.
ReplyDeleteThat's what the early readers are saying
DeleteI've been seeing the Love of my Afterlife on many lists this week. Sounds like a really interesting book! Great picks!

I remember seeing Class Mom awhile ago, it sounds like something I will relate to soon! And The Love of My After Life sounds absolutely charming!
ReplyDeleteClass Mom was hilarious. I had a good time with it, and I still enjoy mommy humor even if I am grandma aged.
DeleteThere is a Hallmark Christmas movie that has that premise of Love in the Afterlife which I love, so maybe this one is one I should read. Not sure if Class Mom is for me. As a grandma and retired teacher, I try to steer clear of school stories. I hope you enjoy both of these, Sam.
ReplyDeleteI knew that premise was familiar. I love Hallmark movies, too. I loved Class Mom. It was hilarious, and I plan on reading the other books in the series.
DeleteClass Mom is the one appealing most to me!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it
