Hit the Road, Jack!
Happy Tuesday! Today we were supposed to talk about characters we would take on vacation. I have no idea, but I was inspired by some recent books I read which featured road trips in some capacity. My family didn't spend a lot of money on vacations. We would simply pile in the car and drive somewhere on the eastern seaboard. I grew up doing road trips, and I love reading about them. Below are ten fantastic books that took me on some great trips.
- The Other Side of Disappearing by Kate Clayborn
- Emergency Contact by Lauren Layne and Anthony LeDonne
- Kilt Trip by Alexandra Kiley
- You, with a View by Jessica Joyce
- One Plus One by Jojo Moyes
- Off the Map by Trish Doller
- The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise by Colleen Oakley
- The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce
- The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arkiawa
- A Thousand Miles by Bridget Morrissey

Emergency Contact <3 - I loved that one! We drove everywhere for vacation when I was a kid, too!
ReplyDeleteYou grew up in a pretty big family. I could imagine that road trips were an easier choice for your parents.
DeleteFun choice today! I loved the road trips in the books by Center, Layne, and Moyes. Those are the books I've read on your list today.
ReplyDeleteThey were definitely a big part of those stories.
DeleteOoh, I love a good road trip book, and I feel like I haven't read one in forever! These recommendations are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI know you read a bit more YA. I highly recommend Roger & Amy's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson if you have not read it yet. Still one of my favorite YA road trip books.
DeleteRoad trip stories are always fun! My family did the same as yours - just piled into the car and hit the road for parts unknown (well, usually just to visit relatives). I have fond memories of those car trips.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Not all our car trips were great, but I loved the destination - it usually had a pool and we didn't.
DeleteI still need to read quite a few of these but I'm most excited for You, With A View and Tanner & Louise! 😍 I love a road trip book, especially when the stories are full of exciting adventures and character growth. Great list!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those were wonderful. I really hope you get a chance to pick them up.
DeleteI adored Tanner and Louise thanks to you Sam!
ReplyDeleteMusic to my ears! Seriously, I am so glad you loved it. It's a book worthy of adoration
DeleteI can't think of a road trip book I've read beyond Beth O'Leary's The Road Trip and I wasn't a fan of that one because I disliked the characters!
ReplyDeleteI was ok with that book. Not my favorite from her, but still ok.
DeleteGreat twist on the topic, Sam. I love road trip books and have read 5 of these. You know what that means, 5 additions to my TBR shelf.
ReplyDeleteHA! Well, I can say they were all delightful.
DeleteAH I looove a road trip book! I absolutely need to check these out. A few were on my radar, especially Tanner & Louise, Off the Map, and One Plus One! Love your choice of topic here!
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick one book that I think was a great fit for you, it would be Tanner & Louise. I hope you get a chance to read it at some point.
DeleteSame here! It was all road trips for my family, too. And I love road trip books. I see several I still need to read. Especially A Thousand Miles!
ReplyDeleteI really loved A Thousand Miles. Friends-to-lovers is one my favorite tropes and Morrissey did such a great job with it
