Series to Read
I love any opportunity to feature more books and found this meme an interesting way to take a look at my TBR. I hope to also get some feedback from you. Should I keep these books on my TBR? Should I push them up the list? Without further ado, below are five books that are the next book in a series I started and really thing I will continue. Have you read the series? Should I continue? Let me know!
Once Upon a Puppy by Lizzie Shane
Opposites attract when a straitlaced lawyer and whimsical party planner must fake-date as co-parents of a rambunctious Irish wolfhound in the second book of this im-paw-ssibly charming small-town romance series.
Connor Wyeth has a plan for everything. But when he adopts Maximus, an unruly Irish wolfhound mix, he gets more than he bargained for. If he doesn't act fast, the big dopey mutt is going to destroy his house. The only person Max ever listens to is the volunteer who used to walk him at the shelter—a perennially upbeat woman whose day job is planning princess parties for little kids. Connor couldn't ever imagine that she'd be able to tame such a beast as Max, but he's desperate enough to try anything.
Deenie Mitchell isn't looking forward to spending more time with uptight, rules-oriented Connor—no matter how attractive he is. But when her sister announces her engagement, Deenie realizes he's the perfect person to impress her type-A family. When she learns he needs a plus-one for his law firm's work events, an unlikely alliance is formed. But as they play the perfect couple, the friendship—and the feelings—that are forming start to feel all too real. Opposites may attract, but can the man with a plan for everything and the misfit who makes her own rules ever find common ground?
Muses & Melodies by Rebecca Yarros
If I can keep Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters, on the straight and narrow for the next six months, I’ll finally get my own band to manage—assuming we don’t kill each other first.
The egotistical, irritating rock star is fresh out of rehab, but it’s obvious his demons followed him home—and now I’m sleeping down the hall. I’ve watched him self-destruct every summer, and with album deadlines and tour dates looming, I can’t let it happen again. My career is in his hands.
But tattoos can’t cover every scar, and I’m starting to see through his trademark, irresistible charm to the damage beneath.
Everyone wants the rock star.
I’m falling for the man.
If he doesn’t let me in,
he’ll never break the cycle—
And when these six months are up,
I might be the one left broken.
Lips Like Sugar by Jess K. Hardy
Fake Date. Real Feels.
It’s official, Mira Harlow has finally lost it. Between running her small-town bakery, parenting her 14-year-old son, and taking care of her mom, she’s a stretched-thin mess. But kissing a total—and very sexy—stranger before begging him to be her date to Ashley and Madigan’s wedding just so her ex won’t see how lonely she really is? That’s a new level of chaos, even for her.
The last thing drummer Cole Sanderson expects when he drives into the small ski town of Red Falls, MT is to score a date to his best friend’s wedding. But since his life in Seattle is stagnating, when the gorgeous, green-eyed bakery owner propositions him to be her long-distance boyfriend, stirring his punk-shenanigans roots to their core, he doesn’t even hesitate to tell her, “Hell yes!”
Mira hopes for a fun night with her fake date, but when their wedding weekend turns into a genuine connection, when Cole returns to Seattle and she tries to go back to her normal life, she can’t help but wonder if she missed out on something real. But Cole isn’t done with her yet, and when he finds his way back to Red Falls, she’ll have to decide what’s more important, holding down her world, or taking a risk, embracing the chaos, and maybe even falling in love.
Lips Like Sugar is book 2 in the Bluebird Basin Romance series but can absolutely be read as a standalone. This story features two main characters in their fifties, lots of laughs, plenty of open-door steam, and so many butterflies.
Flirtation or Faceoff by Leah Brunner
After getting my heart broken, I’ve sworn off athletes forever.
Then my best friend has to go and marry an NHL player, and his teammate, Colby Knight, won’t leave me alone.
Colby is a master at scoring (on and off the ice), and he’s not used to being told no. So he takes my disinterest as an invitation to pursue me even harder. I ignore him… until I realize I can use his expertise to help me get my crush’s attention.
But now that he’s my dating coach, and we’re spending so much time together, I’m growing more and more distracted. I mean, those dimples? Very enticing.
Just when I think he might be more than just a playboy hockey player, a blast from the past comes back and reminds me why I swore off athletes in the first place.
Can I trust Colby, or is he just another jerk who will break my heart?
The Messy Life of Jane Tanner by Brenda Novak
When your life is chaotic, what’s one more complication?
Jane Tanner’s friends are settling down, while she’s been settling for less. She longs for adventure and the big city, but caring for her ailing grandfather means she's shackled to her small town. She’s excited her vintage gift shop is finally up and running, but it’s not enough.
Longing to fulfill at least one dream—to become a mother before her biological clock ticks out—Jane drunkenly propositions the worst possible candidate for Dad . Kurt Elway is off-limits with a capital O . He’s a good friend, but he's too young, too busy running his family’s ranch. Plus, he and Jane’s sister, Kate, used to date. That kind of off-limits.
Unbeknownst to Jane, Kurt’s pining for her. When he’s fully on board to father her baby, she sees him in a new light. Then lingering baggage between Kate and Kurt suddenly surfaces and Jane is reminded of just how messy life is. But…so is parenting. Maybe it’s time to embrace the mess?
What series are on your TBR?

Let us know in the comments!
The only one of these on my TBR or that I have read is the Coyote Canyon series and yes, you should continue it. I have to say that the Pine Hollow series by Lizzie Shane calls to me. I love books featuring animals. I have the first one from the library on audiobook, but am having trouble getting to it. I hope I can renew it. Enjoy all of these books, Sam and I hope they keep you going with the series.
ReplyDeleteI might even check out Novak's other contemporaries. I am really enjoying Coyote Canyon. I read two of the books in Shane's series (the first and last). She features the dogs well and they were very heartwarming.
DeleteI had a fun time with that series of Hush Note. So if you like her writing, it will really work for you. Hope you enjoy that one.
ReplyDeleteThe series where they are by different authors can be tricky, but I am very compelled to get Nixon's story. He seems to have the most demons to slay
DeleteI forget why because it was a while ago, but Once Upon a Puppy wasn't a big hit for me. I'm loving The Coyote Canyon series and I have Jane Tanner on my list, too. I requested it at Netgalley and they rejected me, though! *sobs*
ReplyDeleteI read the first and last book in Shane's series, and both were great. Maybe it was the pairing? You got rejected. I am shocked! Hoopla has had all the books, but I would much rather read than listen to Jane's book. My library had Talulah, and I am hoping they get Jane.
DeleteMuses & Melodies was FANTASTIC! You are going to want to read it. The Messy Life of Jane Tanner is also worth reading, especially if you like that series.
ReplyDeleteI really didn't doubt that Nixon's story would be worth a read. I do like the Coyote Canyon books. I hope my library gets it. I had to do the last one in audio, and it's a book I would rather read.
DeleteI hadn't heard of any of these.. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome
DeleteI have to say, these are all too... nice looking to be on my list, but I hope you enjoy them! To answer your question, ALL the series are on my TBR. All of them, truly. In fact, I have been known to buy entire series without having read the first book. I need an intervention, truly.
ReplyDeleteHA! I don't really feel any of these fit your vibe. I am not big on series any longer, but companions are ok. You can read out of order, not finish, no biggie. I feel like series are definitely more prevalent in the SFF realm
DeleteI saw that Brenda Novak book on a lot of lists towards the end of 2023! Can't remember if they TBR lists or not but it seemed popular. The other one I'd heard of is Muses & Melodies. I think I read the second book in that series and had always planned to read the others but just haven't got around to them yet. Whichever ones you pick to read soonest, I hope you enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteThe first two Coyote Canyon books were great, and I think she picked an interesting character to spotlight.
DeleteI am pretty sure that I read Once Upon a Puppy and enjoyed it! I think that you would too!
ReplyDeleteI read the first and last book in that series and it was adorable. Glad to hear you enjoyed book two.
DeleteThese are all new to me, but I'm definitely curious about the Rebecca Yarros one since it sounds so different from everything else I've read from her.
ReplyDeleteEach book in the series was written by a different author. It's interesting to read series like that. There was a cohesive feel with the first two, so I imagine this will fit well too
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but Flirtation or Faceoff looks and sounds very cute!
ReplyDeleteThe first book was so fun and sweeter than I anticipated for the genre. I think this could be a good one to continue for sure
DeleteOf these I've only read Muses & Melodies. I loved that one - and the entire Hush Note trilogy.
ReplyDeleteI really need to read Nixon's book. I think it could gut me. There has to be something major behind his destructive behavior
DeleteOnce Upon a Puppy looks so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI read two books in that series, and they were exactly that - sweet
