Sloth's Choice Awards - Favorite Debuts of 2023

It's time to celebrate my year in books. I will be spreading my favorites throughout a bunch of categories, but these are all favorites. For more of my favorites, check out my Five Star Friday posts. Today I will be sharing.....

Favorite Debuts!

I did not read as many debuts as I have in the past, but I love the idea of discovering a great author early and supporting them as they embark on their career. I may not have read a lot but the debuts I read were top notch. Below are my ten favorites, and I am excited to read more from them all. *I shelve these as debuts based on GR, so if it's wrong, it's wrong.

  1. This Spells Love by Kate Robb
  2. Penelope in Retrograde by Brooke Abrams
  3. Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood
  4. You, with a View by Jessica Joyce
  5. Emma of 83rd Street by Audrey Belezza and Emily Harding

  1. The Second Ending by Michelle Hoffman
  2. The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
  3. The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer
  4. The Nanny by Lana Ferguson
  5. Seven Percent of Ro Devereux by Ellen O'Clover

  1. I didn't love The Nanny as much as I hoped I would, but I'm still looking forward to more from Ferguson!

    1. The Only Fans part was whatever for me, but I liked how their lives intertwined and the found family aspect was a big win for me too

    1. I was reading the synopsis, is it fiction that is written to seem like non-fiction? I love when authors do that

    1. Clover was a book I wish got more hype. It was so good. The way the author wanted to normalize discussing death and grief was interesting, and it was handled well, in my opinion.

  8. YES! Ro Devereux 😍 Such an underrated debut that one. I still have to read The Nanny and You, With A View but I think I'm gonna love both!
