Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for
the Getaway List by Emma Lord

The day of her high school graduation, Riley realizes two things: One, that she has spent the last four years trying so hard to be a Good Kid for her mom that she has no idea who she really is anymore, and two, she has no idea what she wants because of it. The solution? Pack her bags and move to New York for the summer, where her childhood best friend Tom and co-creator of The Getaway List ― a list of all the adventures they’ve wanted to do together since he moved away ― will hopefully help her get in touch with her old adventurous self, and pave the road to a new future.
Riley isn’t sure what to expect from Tom, who has been distant since his famous mom’s scriptwriting career pulled him away. But when Riley arrives in the city, their reconnection is as effortless as it was when they were young―except with one, unexpected complication that will pull Riley’s feelings in a direction she didn’t know they could take. As she, Tom, and their newfound friends work their way through the delightfully chaotic items on The Getaway List, Riley learns that sometimes the biggest adventure is not one you take, but one you feel in your heart.
Inescapably romantic and brimming with Emma Lord’s signature cheer, The Getaway List is an uplifting and romantic read that will settle into your heart and never leave.
I essentially jumped on this book because Emma Lord wrote it. I find her books packed with humor, wit, charm, and feels, too. I also love the idea of Riley meeting up with her childhood best friend as she attempts to find herself. Childhood friends-to-lovers is my catnip and the cherry on top is this Getaway List. I want to know more about these adventures, and with the book being set in NYC, I am sure to recognize places too (I love that!). No doubt this will be a hit.
The Girl on Legare Street by Karen White
Published by Berkley on November 3, 2009
Age/Genres: Adult, Paranormal

Acclaimed author Karen White returns with the sequel to the national bestseller The House on Tradd Street.
Melanie has grown accustomed to renovating old houses, but she never imagined she'd have to renovate her own life to include her estranged mother. Ginnette Prioleau Middleton left Charleston thirty-five years ago. She's returned wanting to protect the daughter she's never really known after receiving an ominous premonition.
Melanie never wanted to see her mother again, but with some prodding from her partner, Jack Trenholm, she agrees-and begins to rebuild their relationship. Together Melanie and Ginnette buy back their old home. With their combined psychic abilities they expect to unearth some ghosts. But what they find is a vengeful dark spirit whose strength has been growing for decades. It will take unearthing long buried secrets to beat this demon and save what's left of Melanie's family...
After loving the spin-off from this series, I was determined to read the original. The first book was great! I love seeing these characters "before" and learning more about Melanie's gift. The renovation continues as Melanie's mother makes her way back into Melanie's life after 33 years. I am curious about the reasons for her departure so many years ago, and I want to know more about Melanie's family history. Obviously, it would be great to see her and Jack's relationship progress, but I feel like I will be kept waiting. It's ok because I know where they end up.

DeleteThe Getaway List sounds really good. I don't know why, but I love when romances include lists of some sort.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting thing to fancy, though I think I have had a lot of luck with such things as well
DeleteIt may have something to do with the fact that I'm always making lists. Didn't realize I wasn't logged in when I commented the first time. I might have a few other anonymous comments on here. LOL
