Top Ten Tuesday - Giving Thanks

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Giving Thanks!

Happy Tuesday! With the Thanksgiving holiday later this week in the US, this post is supposed to be about reasons I am thankful for books.

My list:
  • Books help me escape reality
  • Reading is a relatively cheap way to pass time
  • I can do this by myself
  • There is a great bookish community out there to share my bookish affection
I could not come up with ten, so I decided to highlight some holiday books. There is no shortage of Christmas books, but it seems many other holidays are not featured as prominently. Below are ten books I read that featured Thanksgiving in some capacity.
  1. Penelope in Retrograde by Brooke Adams
  2. Boyfriend by Sarina Bowen
  3. The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
  4. Eliza Starts a Rumor by Jane L. Rosen
  5. The Simplicity of Cider by Amy E. Reichert

  1. Lease on Love by Falon Ballard
  2. A Match Made for Thanksgiving by Jackie Lau
  3. Truth or Beard by Penny Reid
  4. Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
  5. Ready or Not by Meg Cabot

What are you thankful for?

  1. I'm impressed you came up with 10 Thanksgiving books...and that I've read 3 of them! I had forgotten they had Thanksgiving in them. Great post (and reasons to be thankful)!

    1. I remembered some, the more recent ones, but googled for the others. If I could remember the dinner (once reminded), I included it. Easy to forget when it's not the main focus

  2. I love that reading is a hobby I can do alone. I'm an extreme introvert and need lots of breaks from the real world. :)

    1. I find it hard to rustle up people to do stuff with. My kid was my biggest partner in crime, and she lives too far. So, yes, a hobby I can do alone is great.

  5. I couldn't more more thankful for books (and for the blogging world as well), for the very reasons you mentioned. Books have literally saved my sorry butt these latest years...along with Doctor Who, that is 😉.
Aren't there many Thanksgiving books? I'm surprised. Each and every U.S.-based TV show features such a celebration - I would have expected for books to do the same.

    1. Some books have scenes, but few fiction books I have read are focused on the holiday. Glad books and the Dr. kept you going.

  6. I didn't do this week's top ten because I was just going to reiterate what everyone else said. You don't see a lot of books featuring Thanksgiving, so kudos for coming up with ten, Sam. I have read 3 of them. Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. I don't understand why this holiday isn't featured more (though, maybe I do a little). For me, it's about family and being together - no gifts! Just the gift of sharing a great meal.

  7. I appreciated books for all the reasons you listed, Sam! Loved that you featured Thanksgiving books because as you said Christmas is featured so much. The Beard books and The Bodyguard are among my favorites here.
