Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for
Just Some Stupid Love Story by Katelyn Doyle

For fans of Emily Henry, a debut about a rom-com screenwriter who doesn't believe in love and a divorce attorney who does, forced together at their high school reunion fifteen years after their breakup
Molly Marks writes Hollywood rom-coms for a living—which is how she knows “romance” is a racket. The one and only time she was naive enough to fall in love was with her high school boyfriend, Seth—who she ghosted on the eve of graduation and hasn’t seen in fifteen years.
Seth Rubinstein believes in love, the grand, fated kind, despite his job as, well…one of Chicago’s most successful divorce attorneys. Over the last decade, he’s sought “the one” in countless bad dates and rushed relationships. He knows his soulmate is out there. But so far, no one can compare to Molly Marks, the first girl who broke his heart.
When Molly’s friends drag her to Florida for their fifteenth high school reunion, it is poetic justice that she’s forced to sit with Seth. Too many martinis and a drunken hookup later, they decide to make a bet: whoever can predict the fate of five couples before the next reunion must declare that the other is right about true love. The catch? The fifth couple is the two of them.
Molly assures Seth they are a tale of timeless heartbreak. Seth promises she’ll end up hopelessly in love with him. She thinks he’s delusional. He has five years to prove her wrong.
Wickedly funny, sexy, and brimming with laughs and heart like the best romantic comedies, Just Some Stupid Love Story is for everyone who believes in soulmates—even if they would never admit it.
Is it bad if I say they had me at Emily Henry? I know the comps aren't always accurate, it still made me take a closer look. It features a rom-com screen writer who does not believe in love. Based on that, I understand why they gave the nod to Henry (Beach Read), but there's much more to this book's premise and it sounds fantastic! Molly had only been in love once, fifteen years ago with her high school boyfriend who also broke her heart. AND NOW! She is going to be reunited with him at her high school reunion, AND! Seth has five years to win her back. I don't know about you, but I am excited to see how this plays out.

From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse.
Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops.
When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future.
If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains.
I started this series a while back. I had every intention of finishing it, but you know how these things go. I was in the mood for a bit of a dramatic romance, and this one seems like a good pick. Quinn was returning home after a blowout fight with her parents drove her away almost a decade ago. She was returning for her grandmother's funeral, but it will also be her opportunity to get some closure and maybe rebuild her relationships with her family, including her first love. I love everything about this and have no doubt this will be a hit.

I LOVED Rifts and Refrains! One of my favorite books this year, so I think you will really love it. I can't wait to see what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved it too! I really liked the arc she gave the family. Healing and forgiveness are great themes.
DeleteOoo! Rifts and Refrains is so good! I hope you love it.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! I have enjoyed quite a few books from Perry, so I knew I would like it.
DeleteI hope they are good because they sound good.
ReplyDeleteMy backlog book was fantastic! Only one more book in the series.
DeleteI've been meaning to start the Hush Notes series for a while. I have the first book, but I just haven't managed to pick it up yet. Hope you enjoy both of these!
ReplyDeleteSo far, the first two books have been fantastic. I really like the characters, and each author has been doing a fantastic job with their story. I am eager to read Nixon's story
DeleteThe five-year timeline sounds like an interesting premise!
ReplyDeleteI am curious to see what that five years buys them
DeleteI am still stubornly not reading any Devney Perry anymore. I guess I can hold a grudge after all ;-)
ReplyDeleteWait! Why? What book did it?
DeleteNot a book but at some point she sent ARCs on "invite only" without warning us when we were asked to promote. After that, she asked reviewers to buy her books on Amazon to have "certified" reviews...not very respectful for our work.
DeleteWow! I do know that some authors do that. I read most of my books through the library, so no buying books here. HA!
DeleteDevney Perry is not an author I have heard of before, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just a Stupid Love Story sounds like a fun one as well. I can see why the Emily Henry comparison would pull you in.
ReplyDeleteI have now read 5 or 6 by Perry, and I have enjoyed them all. I will definitely read more from her
