My Week in Review
Happy Sunday! This week is going to be a good week, I can feel it. My daughter flew in yesterday, and just having her here is the best birthday gift I can ask for. I am taking two days off this week, so a shortened work week. I got recognition at work too. It's really hard with my function to get, so I was happy and surprised.
We got good news about dad's lung biopsy. The found no cancer there. He is having a bone biopsy tomorrow, and I am crossing my fingers for more good news there. It's such a roller coaster. The PET scan gets you scared, and it's very stressful waiting for all the test results. I am grateful the doctor is moving quickly, and that we did get some great news.
I did have a bit of a struggle this week. One of my credit cards, that I rarely use, had fraud on it. They got declined for whatever they were trying to buy at BestBuy, but the $638 bunk beds they purchased from IKEA went through. I thought the credit card company rejected all the the charges when they shut down the card, but then I got a text to confirm the delivery from IKEA. So, I call IKEA, they cancel the order and credit my account. I don't know what went on, but now I have a credit on my charge card. All these parties need to work it out because I am not wasting any more time trying to return money to people. I am dumbfounded as to how my card was compromised. I used it to make a purchase from Karl Lagerfeld at the beginning of September, and then I updated my information with the online gym I use. They had Link.co to store my card information. From what I know, that's legit. I don't know if it happened there or what, but I only use that card like once a year. It was frustrating.

Read Last Week
The first thing I noted about the books I read this week, was that most of them were set in England - four out of six books read. I cannot decide which was my favorite.
I was really impressed with Nicholls' book. That was my first from him, and I definitely will be reading more. Bayliss' upcoming release was fun and sweet, and I adored the sibling aspect of it. Bookshop was very touching and not what I was expecting. I liked the way Henry wove all these characters' lives together with the common thread being the bookshop. TJR impressed me with how much story and emotion she managed in so few pages. I liked the nod to ALL the evidence of the affair. The ending was exactly what I wanted for the main character too.

Currently Reading
I can already tell that The Sweet Gum Tree will drive me up the wall the same way Love, Rosie did. I had not read the synopsis, as Deanna had recommended it for my state challenge, but I advise others NOT to read it. It seems really spoilery to me.
The Rules of Magic is helping me check off two reading challenge prompts this month, and it is also fantastic.
- The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allard
- The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman (audiobook)
To Be Read
- The Christmas Orphan's Club by Becca Freeman
- Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Jalauddin, Marissa Stapley
- Emergency Contact by Lauren Layne, Anthony Ledonne

Oh yay for your daughter being here and the good news and recognition at work, too, that's wonderful. Here's to hoping next week will be great!! So sorry about the card thing though, that has to be so frustrating, I hope it gets sorted out soon! xx
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week! <3
Thanks, Marie! Identity theft is so rude. We get a lot of that to deal with at my job too. I wonder if ID theft was this pervasive before everything went online/computerized?
DeleteOh wonderful that your daughter is home and that you got recognition at work. Congratulations. It's awful when your credit card gets compromised and luckily you were able to get everything back. There are way too many people that want to get something for nothing. I would also get extremely frustrated. I hope you enjoy all your upcoming reads, it's great to see everyone getting into the festive books. Have a great week! BTW: When is your birthday?
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time this has happened to me (it was this Visa, too). I feel so violated. My birthday is Thursday. My daughter is leaving that day, so we are celebrating early
DeleteHmmm, interesting. Have a wonderful Birthday week!
DeleteHappy birthday in advance! 🎂
ReplyDeleteSo many good pieces of news (except for the card thing of course. That's why I never use the only one I have unless I have no choice, like when I pay for medical examinations, because they won't accept money). Recognition at work is awesome (but I hope it will get you a salary bump eventually 😉). I'm sending all the good vibes for your dad's biopsy!
Thanks, Roberta! The good thing about credit cards, is that the companies always cover everything. Debit cards do not work the same way. Luckily, I was able to cancel all the charges.
DeleteI hope I didn't push you in the wrong direction with The Sweet Gum Tree then. Hopefully it won't annoy you too much. I am happy your dad got good news and I hope this week is wonderful with your daughter. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deanna! I actually loved Sweet Gum. I always complain about that (as I did with Love, Rosie), but both books rated high for me.
DeleteHappy (early) birthday! So glad your daughter could come in for it. That's great news for your dad and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for his additional tests.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. It's so stressful waiting for results.
DeleteCongrats on the award from work and yay for having your daughter visit. I hope you have a lovely birthday week! Boo for the credit card shenanigans! I can't believe someone had the gall to buy IKEA, and set it up for delivery! Hopefully they can catch them seeing as they have their address, right? People are something else!
ReplyDeleteI grabbed up Love, Just In as well and I read The Sweet Gum Tree years ago and remember it being good but super angsty. Looking forward to your thoughts!
Thank you, Rachel! I just noticed today, that I had a 170 emails from the same address in my spam folder on the day of the theft. I bet that' s the thief checking my address out. Why can't people use their powers for good? The place they were having the bed delivered was an empty apartment in Manhattan. Someone at work said the thieves will wait outside to get the stuff. So sad. Sweet Gum was good. It's was as frustrating as all books with that sort of storyline, but I loved it.
DeleteForgot to mention that I'm so happy to hear you're getting good news back on your dad's health! It is so stressful waiting for results!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteThat's great news for your dad! Let's hope these keep coming! And getting recognition at work is also such a nice feeling! I also hope your card problems get solved fast! And last but not least: happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sophie! I was shocked when I saw my picture for the awards. It's nice for sure.
DeleteLove the good news. Regine

Thank you!
DeleteYou're the 2nd person today on my blog visits that has said they had a fraudulent charge on the credit card. I have one last year. Seems like it happens too often. I'm glad you got some good news about your dad. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary! Yeah, credits cards are always getting hijacked. We see a lot of identity theft at my company too. Where they open accounts with other people's credentials. It's always on this card too. Super annoying, but we caught them all before anything paid. So, that's a plus.
DeleteI was hacked recently too, it's so annoying. Glad your dad got good results! Hope that continues. And enjoy your visit, plus yay happy birthday!!
ReplyDeleteSo annoying and I have all these credits now that I shouldn't and I need to get them taken care of before they send me a check and it's a total mess. The bone biopsy was today. Fingers crossed!
DeleteEarly Happy Birthday wishes to you! I'm so glad to hear your daughter will be there to celebrate with you and that you got some good news about your Dad.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suzanne! Always a treat to be with the kid.
DeleteHappy Birthday!! So glad you're getting time with your daughter and YAY for the good news for your dad. Prayers that everything else comes back good as well!
ReplyDeleteOne more test! And, thank you for the prayers
DeleteIt sounds like your birthday is shaping up to be a great one, especially with your daughter in town and the good news about your dad! Credit Card fraud is the worst, most annoying thing to deal with. I last got hit while I was on vacation in Europe, and it was such a mess.
ReplyDeleteI have heard it happens a lot abroad. My thief was somewhere in NYC. It is a mess.
Deleteoh no those credit card issues sounds awful to experience! I am always worried about that too which is why I keep my money in my savings lol I don't even trust something not to happen to my checking account. I don't have credit cards actually, they are too much temptation and too much risk in my opinion. And Happy Birthday darling!
ReplyDeleteI never use a debit card. It's a lot harder to clean that mess up. Took my mother months.
DeleteI hope that you had a wonderful visit with your daughter. Happy Birthday! I had dealing with headaches like a stolen credit card. It is so frustrating! Crossing my fingers that your dad gets more good news!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carole! People who steal suck. I hope karma comes for them
DeleteYay for all the good things!! I hope you had a wonderful birthday, too. And yay for so many great books, too! It's the perfect time of year for Rules of Magic.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am enjoying Magic. Didn't get to listen much last week, but I made a little progress today
