Found Family Ties!
I love the found family trope! Some are very lucky and are surrounded by a fantastic family, but others are not as fortunate. It could be that they had a falling out with their family, their family members had passed away, or they are geographically far from their family. Whatever the reason, it wonderful to see that people can be so lucky to find friends or mentors who are like family. Maybe I love it so much because it pains me to think of people being alone in this world, but it's a gift to find those in this world who will love you in the way your family would. As always, this list is made up of more recent reads which earned high ratings from me.
- The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore
- The Little Italian Hotel by Phaedra Patrick
- The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin
- The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
- A Winter in New York by Josie Silver
- The Wake-Up Call by Beth O'Leary
- Love, Holly by Emily Stone
- The Summer of Songbirds by Kristy Woodson Harvey
- Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

ReplyDeleteA great trope. I love the idea that we are never alone when we find our people
DeleteLove a good found family trope! The feeling of a character finding their people... it does my heart good. I'm looking forward to A Winter in New York.
ReplyDeleteI liked it so much. There was one plot point the book could have done with out, but I think you are going to adore Gio and his family, the gelato, and Bobby. Such great "family" moments in this one
DeleteThe only one I've read of these was Mandanna's, but I did love the found family in that one. Nice list!

ReplyDeleteDon't have to share blood to be a family, that's for sure. Life is definitely tough, and it's beautiful when you can find those people to help you through it
DeleteYes, The Lonely Hearts Book Club was a great found family story! I didn't read A Man Called Ove but watched the Tom Hanks movie recently. I liked it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the film, but as with all Backman's books, I loved Ove. I hope the film did the book justice
DeleteGreat choices, Sam. I have read several of these and totally agree. When I think of found family The House in the Cerulean Sea and Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting come to mind.
ReplyDeleteIona did have a great group which grew to be a family. I was not as big a fan of Cerulean Sea as others, but I agree that it had a strong found family element.
DeleteI'm such a sucker for a good found family book. I've read and loved four of these and the other six are on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you get to some of these gems.
DeleteI love the found family trope! A MAN CALLED OVE is a wonderful example of how they can form and how valuable they can be to everyone involved.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
That one! The way all the neighbors rallied around Ove and adopted him, and how his heart opened. Loved it!
DeleteI adore the found family trope and can so relate to it. A Man Called Ove, Maggie Moves On, and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches are all great examples! I'm looking forward to the other books on your list.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to feature all sorts of families in books, and found families are so critical for many
DeleteFound families is a newer trope for me. I didn't know it was one I'd love so much. I haven't read any of these books yet, but A Winter in New York and Love, Holly are coming up for me this month. Wake-Up Call and Ove are both on my tbr. Great list this week!
