Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for

When fall rolls around, it’s time for Kerry Tolliver to leave her family’s Christmas tree farm in the mountains of North Carolina for the wilds of New York City to help her gruff older brother & his dog, Queenie, sell the trees at the family stand on a corner in Greenwich Village. Sharing a tiny vintage camper and experiencing Manhattan for the first time, Kerry’s ready to try to carve out a new corner for herself.
In the weeks leading into Christmas, Kerry quickly becomes close with the charming neighbors who live near their stand. When an elderly neighbor goes missing, Kerry will need to combine her country know-how with her newly acquired New York knowledge to protect the new friends she’s come to think of as family,
And complicating everything is Patrick, a single dad raising his adorable, dragon-loving son Austin on this quirky block. Kerry and Patrick’s chemistry is undeniable, but what chance does this holiday romance really have?
Filled with family ties, both rekindled and new, and sparkling with Christmas magic, BRIGHT LIGHTS BIG CITY delivers everything Mary Kay Andrews fans adore, all tied up in a hilarious, romantic gem of a novel.
I have actually read quite a few books from Andrews, but she wowed me with her holiday release last year - The Santa Suit. This was a short book that made quite an impression on me. When I saw this holiday book, I immediately added it to my TBR. The fish-out-of-water aspect sounds fun, and holidays books always seem to make me happy.

Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets? A novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived.
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?
Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.
This one had been on my radar FOREVER. I had heard lots of good things about Haig's books, and though this is technically sci-fi (they discuss multiverses and how this fits into that), I had also heard that it was very heartwarming. You all know heartwarming is my brand. And, you know what? It was. I finished this before writing this post, and I was blown away. I will definitely be reading more from Haig.

Bright Lights Big City sounds like a lovely cozy mystery as well!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good description of almost any Mary Kay Andrews book. I feel like many have a mystery/suspense element.
DeleteI had The Midnight Library on my TBR for so long and for some reason, I deleted it. May have to add it back!
ReplyDeleteIt was a recent review I saw (Maybe Nicci from The Lady Never? I cannot remember), but it convinced me to put the library hold in, and I am glad I did.
DeleteSo glad The Midnight Library was a win for you. I'm always wary of books that dive into multi-verses and alternate realities. I worry that I'm going to be hopelessly lost.
ReplyDeleteIt's very gentle with the science bits. I think he explained it rather well in a simplified way, but nothing could distract me from what a fantastic and moving tale it was
DeleteI haven't read any of these. I hope your next read is a good one also.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary
DeleteI'll be looking forward to hearing if Andrews's book lives up to the hype.
ReplyDeleteI have a good feeling
DeleteOh I like the look of that Christmas one!
ReplyDeleteI love holiday books. They make me feel good
DeleteAs I said in another post about The Midnight Library, I've had it on my Kindle for awhile and can't wait to read it.

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! The report back
DeleteI downloaded Bright Lights, Big Christmas after loving The Santa Suit last year too! I'm going to leave this post and request The Midnight Library. Seeing your high praise was the extra shove I needed. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah! I am excited for us both to read Andrews' book, and fingers crossed, you love The Midnight Library as much as I did. It's amazing that three years after its release, I still had to wait a few months for the hold to come through
DeleteI'm really excited for Bright Lights, Big Christmas. I've only recently started reading Mary Kay Andrews and so far I've loved everything I've read. I thought The Midnight Library was wonderful. My favorite from Haig so far.
ReplyDeleteThe Midnight Library is my first Haig book, but I am eager to read more. So good! I don't understand how I didn't see more about that book when it came out.
DeleteI have seen a lot of people raving about the Midnight Library so I hope you'll enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWell worth all the raves
DeleteI am seriously considering picking up the Mary Kay Andrews book! I picked up The Midnight Library a year or so ago for a couple of bucks at a used book sale and really need to get around to reading it sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteIf you need a through provoking and uplifting read, I suggest reading The Midnight Library. It was so good
