My Week in Review
Happy Sunday! I hope all are doing well.
I am happy to say that dad was very happy with his Ruth's Chris dinner. Nothing like eating a $70 steak (and that's one of the cheaper ones). At least everyone really enjoyed the meal, and the service was great too.
Monday, I went for my follow up with the doctor. He did three injections near the nerve and prescribed an oral steroid for the two neuromas. The injections really hurt, but I think they helped. My big toe feels a lot looser. I assume it's because the swelling is down, but they should have also made the scar tissue back off the nerve. Well, I hope it lasts.
Tuesday, I flew into Chicago. Trip went well, but the next day, I burned myself very badly when making coffee. I have successfully made my press coffee, but this time, I fumbled. Two trips to the urgent care, but it's healing and doesn't really hurt any longer.
Wednesday night was the Fall Out Boy show. They were fantastic, as always. They go big with their productions. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights - they do it up.
Today, Saturday, we are heading out to a boygenius show. I am not familiar with the band, but they are some sort of indie-all-star band. Should be a good time. I like outdoor shows in the summer too, and the evenings have been comfortable.

My holiday requests are starting to roll in, and I got approved for books by two authors I always adore. So, a great week with that alone, but it got better when I received the invite for the new Bayliss.
Netgalley/Edelweiss

- Faking Christmas by Kerry Winfrey
Invites
- Here and Only Here by Christelle Dabos

Read Last Week
I have zero complaints about the books I read this week. They made me laugh, cry, and feel-good. I started with an emotional read, You Me Everything. The author did such a wonderful job keeping this from being too heavy. The main character's mother was terminally ill, so it was weighty at times, but it was about living in the now, love, family, and friendship. I loved it!
I also gave all the stars to Change of Plans. Lots of rom-com stuff to love, but also a touching story about learning to accept help and support. I smiled my face off as I read this book and really adored the way Newton tied it all up since this was the final book in the companion series.

I started the Higgins book for a reading challenge. I needed "other", and I have had good luck with her books in the past. She writes some seriously messy characters. There is a lot at play in this book, but I am enjoying getting to know how it all will come together.
I never pass up reading a Kasie West book. She has yet to disappoint, and from page one, I could tell this was classic West.

- Life and Other Inconveniences by Kristin Higgins

So glad the injections seem to be helping. I hope things continue to improve. Ouch on that burn, though! Wow, that sounds painful. Love seeing Good as Gold coming up. I'm excited to get to that one. Sarina Bowen never, ever disappoints.
ReplyDeleteThe burn is terrible, and it covers such a big part of the my hand. The swelling is getting better, maybe helped by the oral steroid I was already on (HA). I agree. I am always pleased with Bowen's books.
DeleteWhew - $70 steak! I do like food, though lol. Oh, no, that sounds like a tough medical week. You are so organized with getting your holiday copies now. I'm going to pay attention so I can find me a great holiday read for this year. I try to read one each year, but I've yet to pick one that I wind up loving...
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that most of the holiday books are published in September. I think there were ones posted for months on NG. I usually get lucky with holiday books, but remember, my brand is light, warm, and fuzzy.
DeleteI hope that the injection continues to help your foot. Foot pain is the worst! I am very sorry to hear about your burn! Ouch! I am so glad that you were able to go see some concerts. I knew that Ruth's Chris was expensive but a $70 steak? I am too cheap for that! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe burn is pretty scary looking. I never had one this big before. Ruth's Chris is expensive. Everything is a la carte too with most sides costing about $15 a piece. My mother and I didn't even get entrees (we are not big steak eaters), and the bill was well over $200.
DeleteSorry to hear that the injections were so painful but I'm glad that they're helping.
ReplyDeleteIt's frustrating that I was made to jump through so many hoops before finally getting the injections.
DeleteI am really sorry to learn that you had to go to the ER Sam! But hey, good news about your foot so there is that!
ReplyDeleteNot ER, urgent care. I have to be dying to go to the ER -- it's really expensive.
DeleteI'm glad the injections worked, but I'm sorry you burnt yourself! I hate when I do that. I'm glad it is not hurting now. Enjoy your show!
ReplyDeleteMy hand looks like Freddie Kruger's face. It's gross.
DeleteI've never been to Ruth's Chris - it definitely sounds like a special occasion place! Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a special occasion place. Very pricey, but excellent food and service.
DeleteSometimes its nice to indulge in the experience of being at Ruth Chris haha Glad to see that you loved that Tessa Bailey so much there. Hope those injections get better for you.
ReplyDeleteIt's meaningful for a steak eater. I think it's wasted on me.
DeleteOh no- sorry to hear about the burn! Glad the Ruth's Chris was good. Mmm expensive steak but I want one now :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Chicago and the shows!
I highly recommend for steak lovers.
DeleteGlad to hear the injections seem to be helping. Sorry to hear about the coffee burn though. I saw your concert pics on Insta. It looked like a fun show!
ReplyDeleteGreat show! FOB always put on a fantastic performance.
DeleteIt's been a while since I've been to Ruth's Chris, but yeah, they're expensive! Glad to hear your dad enjoyed it! Happy to hear the injections helped a bit. Sorry to hear about your burn! Those hurt sooo much and takes a good while for the pain to fade so what a bummer it happened while you were on vacation.
ReplyDeleteLoved The Lonely Hearts Book Club so I'm happy to see you did too and I look forward to your thoughts on Life and Other Inconveniences. She really does write messy characters/situations, lol!
Before Father's Day, it had been MANY years since we ate at Ruth's Chris. Gotta do it up for special occasions. My had looks like a nightmare. Just have to let it heal. Book Club was a very sweet story. I loved teh way the author worked all the books in.
DeleteI gave myself a nasty burn on my hand making tea once. OMG THE PAIN. I have never been to Ruth Chris but that sounds delicious and like a great treat for Dad.
ReplyDeleteI've been following your pics of the concerts and they look fun.
That video is hilarious.

It's been a week, and my hand still looks like Freddie Kruger's face. The concert was great. FOB is a favorite of mine and the kid's, so always a good time. I love seeing them in their hometown too
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about all the pain, but yay for all the music! I read Life and Other Inconveniences as an ARC and enjoyed it. I hope you did too!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Higgins' book. I felt a kinship with Emma and was happy to see her find love and mend some relationships
