Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for:

A delicious love story with all the toppings, Lauren Morrill's It's Kind of a Cheesy Love Story is a contemporary YA rom-com about love, friendship, and pizza, perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Jenny Han.Why I want to read this book
After her mother gave birth to her in the bathroom of a local pizzeria, Beck Brix been given the dubious privilege of having minor fame, free pizza for life, and a guaranteed job when she turns sixteen—a job she unfortunately can’t afford to turn down.
Stuck with her geeky co-workers instead of taking Instagram-ready shots with her wealthy, photogenic friends, Beck finally realizes what she’s spent her whole life trying to hide: that Hot ‘n Crusty is a part of her.
Then disaster strikes the beloved pizza parlor that’s become like home, and Beck realizes that it takes losing something to really know what it’s worth.
Towards the end of last year, I started reading some books I had from Morrill's backlist. I bought them, because she writes those cute contemporaries with just the right amount of drama that I love. Her name attached to this book was a big draw for me, but if I am being honest, the the title did a lot of the heavy lifting. I am not ashamed to say that I love cheese. That's right, cheese please. Putting the term "cheesy" right there in the title already has a stupid grin forming on my face, but then tell me the story is about love, friendship, and PIZZA!!! Now, I'm all in. Really looking forward to this one.
I am not sure when or how this book came on my radar, but I know I wanted to read it given the description. Something in the vein of High Fidelity and Empire Records is sure to be a hit for me. I adored trolling my local record shops (Cheap Trills, Vintage Vinyl, and Music From a Different Kitchen) and seeing some great in-store performances. So, I am sure nostalgia was part of my motivation for buying this book. I have also fallen in love with Australian authors. There is something a bit different from the way they attack topics versus the way American authors do. I am definitely eager to finally read this book.

In the tradition of High Fidelity and Empire Records, this is the literary soundtrack to Skylark Martin’s strange, mysterious, and extraordinary summer. Why I want to read this book
This is the story of a wild girl and a ghost girl; a boy who knew nothing and a boy who thought he knew everything.
It’s a story about Skylark Martin, who lives with her father and brother in a vintage record shop and is trying to find her place in the world. It’s about ten-year-old Super Agent Gully and his case of a lifetime. And about beautiful, reckless, sharp-as-knives Nancy. It’s about tragi-hot Luke, and just-plain-tragic Mia Casey. It’s about the dark underbelly of a curious neighborhood. It’s about summer, and weirdness, and mystery, and music.
And it's about life and death and grief and romance. All the good stuff.

Both of these covers are amazing, and I'm also pretty partial to pizza!
ReplyDeletePizza really is the best. Even when it's bad, it's good
DeleteIT'S KIND OF A CHEESY LOVE STORY sounds super cute and I'm with you, cheese is the BEST :)
ReplyDeleteI am all about the cheese
DeleteGirl Defective sounds good! I love the movies it is compared to, so it should be a winner. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteSame. Fingers crossed the comps are actually accurate.
DeleteBoth of these are new to me and sound fantastic. I like cheese myself :) and I loved the old music stores so I could see myself enjoying this pair.
ReplyDeleteYes! Another cheese lover. *high five*
DeleteThe "cheesy" book are some of the BEST to read, I feel like they are the most relatable because that is life LOL
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy both of these when you grab them up.
I never consider cheesy a negative thing. Girl Defective was really great. I enjoyed it a lot
DeleteThe first one is on my TBR too! I remember when the second book came out, I never got around to it either. Hope you can get to these soon and enjoy them. Thanks for stopping by my Wednesday post on Lisa Loves Literature yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI love the Aussie authors and this was another stellar one from Oz
DeleteThese both sound really good, especially the cheesy one, lol.
ReplyDeleteSo many cheese lovers here today. Yeah!
DeleteI love these covers!!
ReplyDeleteI liked both covers for Girl Defective. The original featured a poster they talked about in the story, but I love the record cover too.
DeleteGosh both covers are so vintage and perfect Sam! And these blurbs sound so good!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! They are
DeleteYour write-up on Girl Defective is really interesting, Sam -- I'd like to know more of the differences between Australian and American authors tackling the same YA romance and issues. (also, I adore It's kind of a cheezy love story, right from the title to the blurb <3)
ReplyDeleteThere's an unflinching honesty to the way Australian's approach some issues, that I don't tend to see from American writers. I also love "seeing" how things are in a different part of the world.
