Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.
This week I can't wait for:

For fans of Jenny Han, Jane Austen, and The Great British Baking Show, A Taste for Love, is a delicious rom com about first love, familial expectations, and making the perfect bao.Why I want to read this book
To her friends, high school senior Liza Yang is nearly perfect. Smart, kind, and pretty, she dreams big and never shies away from a challenge. But to her mom, Liza is anything but. Compared to her older sister Jeannie, Liza is stubborn, rebellious, and worst of all, determined to push back against all of Mrs. Yang's traditional values, especially when it comes to dating.
The one thing mother and daughter do agree on is their love of baking. Mrs. Yang is the owner of Houston's popular Yin & Yang Bakery. With college just around the corner, Liza agrees to help out at the bakery's annual junior competition to prove to her mom that she's more than her rebellious tendencies once and for all. But when Liza arrives on the first day of the bake-off, she realizes there's a catch: all of the contestants are young Asian American men her mother has handpicked for Liza to date.
The bachelorette situation Liza has found herself in is made even worse when she happens to be grudgingly attracted to one of the contestants; the stoic, impenetrable, annoyingly hot James Wong. As she battles against her feelings for James, and for her mother's approval, Liza begins to realize there's no tried and true recipe for love.
Boba tea and the way these two are looking at each other on the cover was really enough to make me want to read this book. You know me and romance -- it's a winning combination. The synopsis also promises a rom-com, which I never tire of. Throw in a bake off bachelorette competition, and I am now salivating to read this tale. I am seeing lots of stars with this one, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Meet Sloane Emily Jacobs: a seriously stressed-out figure-skater from Washington, D.C., who choked during junior nationals and isn’t sure she’s ready for a comeback. What she does know is that she’d give anything to escape the mass of misery that is her life. Why I want to read this book
Now meet Sloane Devon Jacobs, a spunky ice hockey player from Philly who’s been suspended from her team for too many aggressive hip checks. Her punishment? Hockey camp, now, when she’s playing the worst she’s ever played. If she messes up? Her life will be over.
When the two Sloanes meet by chance in Montreal and decide to trade places for the summer, each girl thinks she’s the lucky one: no strangers to judge or laugh at Sloane Emily, no scouts expecting Sloane Devon to be a hero. But it didn’t occur to Sloane E. that while avoiding sequins and axels she might meet a hockey hottie—and Sloane D. never expected to run into a familiar (and very good-looking) face from home. It’s not long before the Sloanes discover that convincing people you’re someone else might be more difficult than being yourself.
I essentially placed all of Lauren Morrill's books on my TBR as soon as I heard about them. Therefore, Being Sloane Jacobs has been sitting on my TBR for quite a while. I was thinking of it again, recently, because I was looking for a book to pair with another skater story. This is a twofer for me. I get a book off my backlist, plus I have an "old" for my One Old, One New. My love for stories featuring elite athletes runs deep, and the gravy on top! The love interest is a hockey player. The book is almost tailor made for me, and I anticipate it being great.

I just saw A Taste for Love on goodreads and that cover alone makes me want to read it. A bake off bachelorette competition definitely sounds fun though.

ReplyDeleteAnd I need more fun in my life.

DeleteThat first one does look really good.
ReplyDeleteRight? I definitely hope to get my hands on that one
DeleteI feel like Mrs Yang should be admired for pulling off what she did in A Taste for Love LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is one busy body, but creative, mom
DeleteI've had a copy of Being Sloane Jacobs for the longest time and sadly, just haven't gotten around to reading it as yet. A Taste for Love sounds so lovely and cutesy. I had to Google what boba tea was, in Australia we typically call it bubble tea. I've actually never tried it and now thinking I might need to find somewhere on the weekend to try it out!
ReplyDeleteIt's cute. I started it this morning and am about 60% of the way through. It's sort of spin on The Prince and the Pauper, with the two Sloane Jacobs switching lives.
DeleteA Taste for Love sounds absolutely adorable and a lot of fun! I'll be looking forward to your review on this book ♥.

Sadly, I will have to hope my library gets it. I have zero luck with this publisher and now they are absorbing S&S too. --sigh--
DeleteI didn't know they were absorbing S&S, wow. Thinking all the happy thoughts your library gets this book!
DeleteAmber posted about it earlier this week https://dulivreblog.com/2020/11/30/the-state-of-publishing-from-a-readers-perspective/
DeleteBoth of these sound like great reads. A Taste For Love sounds brilliant, any book with baking in has my attention. Being Sloane Jacobs sounds interesting. I was interested when I saw mention of figure skating but then I saw about switching places? Well won’t they be an interesting read, I hope you enjoy both books.
