It's time to celebrate my year in books. Today I will be sharing.....
My Book Travels!
This was my year! I had so many epic things planned, but 2020 wasn't having it. Not being able to really travel, I found myself seeking books set in places I have never visited before. I found quite a few and was grateful to the authors who did such a fantastic job pulling me into these locals.
- Sweden - Beartown by Fredrik Backman
- Argentina - Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez
- Canada - The Agony of Bun O'Keefe by Heather Smith
- Antartica - Up to this Pointe by Jennifer Longo
- Iran - Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
- South Korea - Shine by Jessica Jung
- The Galápagos Islands - Shipped by Angie Hockman
- England - Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan
- China - Heiress Apparently by Diana Ma
- Greece - Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch
Did you travel anywhere great via a book this year?

I traveled to Alaska via The Simple Wild series, and it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to go there for real someday. It's breathtaking.
DeleteSo happy you liked Love & Olives. I read the first two books this year and really loved them. I'm really hoping to get a copy of that one early next year. Also, glad to see Bear Town on the list!!
ReplyDeleteOlives was a bit different, a little heavier given the subject matter, but still wonderful.
DeleteI “traveled” a lot while reading too! I also spent 2020 looking for books that would take me away from here. I read Beartown and Darius and loved them both.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Both were fantastic! I was glad each had a sequel too.
DeleteI love this topic! So very relevant this year. I traveled to Sweden with Backman in Anxious People and to Alaska via Forever Wild. Also Germany with The Romantic Pact by Meghan Quinn.
ReplyDeleteI thought Tucker did a nice job featuring Alaska too. I do not think I have ever gone to Germany in a book (though I visited family back in 1990). Ooh, I want to read that book too
DeleteThank goodness for the escapism of books this year (more than ever). I traveled to England and Alaska and the Oregon Trail this year. :)
ReplyDeleteAlaska was a popular destination this year. I went there more than 5 times in books (and once in real life)
DeleteYou traveled well, Sam. I'm intrigued by the setting of the Gallapagos and Antarctica. I'll have them out
ReplyDeleteBoth authors did a great job featuring the setting. Shipped takes place on an eco-cruise, so there is great commentary on the surroundings as well.
DeleteAntarctica- nice. I love that cover. and oh my gosh Greece. A bucket list for me, and I need to read that book.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a unique setting. Some really interesting tidbits about Antartica included in there too
DeleteYes I had a few trips planned too, and wasn't able to follow through. Thank goodness for books.
ReplyDeleteRight? Totally kept me sane this year
DeleteGlad you were able to travel to so many places without even leaving your home! :D I also went to Iran in Darius the Great this year, and I’m looking forward to reading Furia and traveling to Argentina!
ReplyDeleteI cannot stop screaming about Furia. I really loved that book!
DeleteBeartown was such an amazing read sam! And I love how you chose to travel with books because this year, it's been the only kind of travel!
ReplyDeleteHave to look for that bright side, right? I really love Backman's style. The way he does the buildup in his stories is brilliant.
DeleteI went to some fantasy world in my reading but other than that I think that everything I read was either set in the US or England. I should work on that in 2021.
ReplyDeleteI was happily surprised with all the fantastic book settings I encountered this year. I love seeing more variety.
DeleteFun topic! I love it when a book really makes me feel like I've traveled to a new place. Beartown was one of my favorites this year for that reason. I think my other favorite travel book was Paris is Always a Good Idea.
ReplyDeleteBecause I live in the US, I read mostly US authors, so I am always on the lookout for settings outside the US. Paris was such a wonderful book! It took me away and made me really happy too.
DeleteYes! Thank goodness we were able to travel through books. I'm so excited to read Mind the Gap and Love & Olives. <3
ReplyDeleteMind the Gap was adorable. I liked seeing this big transition in Dash and Lily's life. Olives was different from the other two books, but good. A little long, but still very good
DeleteI need to read more Backman in the future.
ReplyDeleteI read all but the one about his Son, and they were brilliant.
