Top Ten Tuesday: Why Can't I Be You?

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Why Can't I Be You!

Have you ever read a book, and wished that you could do a Freaky Friday thing with that character? Though I have yet to find a character with a perfect life, I have encountered quite a few with perks I would love to enjoy. These are all books I have read over the past year, which I really enjoyed, and found myself envying some aspect of the main character's life.
  • Now a Major Motion Picture by Cori McCarthy - Iris wasn't all about the invasive nature of the fandom, but I think it would be pretty epic, if my family was such a big part of pop culture, and getting to be part of the screen adaptation seems pretty fun too.
  • Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett - Zorie was dealing with some lows, but she had a fantastic step mom, her love of astronomy, and an epic camping trip, which yielded some fabulous results.
  • Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian - I loved Amelia's drive to save the creamery, and also, the fact that she got to be a part of such a wonderful legacy.
  • Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins - Daisy was sort of thrust into the spotlight due to her sister's impending nuptials, but I think it could be sort of interesting getting to see how the other half lives.
  • Puddin' by Julie Murphy - Millie is one of the most optimistic, kindest, and genuine characters I have ever encountered, and let's face it, I wish I had half of her ability to see the upside of all things.
  • Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch - A horrible thing was done to Addie, but she was lucky enough to have such a wonderful family and supportive friends, who were there to help her heal, and who doesn't want to have a team behind them in their time of need?
  • The Geography of Lost Things by Jessica Brody - Ali had quite a bit of baggage to unpack, and her future looked a little iffy, but she had her road trip, which brought her a wealth of self realization and helped her restore a valuable relationship.
  • Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills - Sophie was dealing with some pain, but she had her community and her circle of friends there to help her through it.
  • Rayne & Delilah's Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner - Both main characters in this book were pretty special, but I found myself thinking how lucky Josie was. She had opportunities waiting for her, a doting boyfriend, and an epic best friend.
  • Cold Day in the Sun by Sara Biren - Holland had so many good qualities. I loved her determination, and envied the close relationship she had with her family. And, I wish I had an ounce of her athletic prowess.

Who would you like to switch places with?

    1. I think I would love to be any of Mills' MCs, because Mills always gives them such wonderful support systems, and we all need that.

  2. Aww, you read such sweet books. I had to change the TTT topic because I’d never want to switch places with the people I read about. My life is easy compared to theirs.

    1. I try to limit my TTT picks to books I read in the last year, and I couldn't think of one character, who didn't have some bad with the good in their life, but many had something to celebrate.

  3. I haven't read any of these, but most of them are on my TBR. Great list.

  4. So many sweet books up there. I want to read them all. This is the second time today someone has sung the praises for Rayne and Deliliah. I think I need to read that one.

  6. Great picks Sam. The fact we would switch to experience an aspect of someone else’s life is the reason we love to read them! ❤️❤️

    1. What I found is I couldn't find anyone with an easy life, but they all had something that was fabulous, and something good is better than nothing.

  9. Looks like contemporaries have more people to be envied than in fantasy worlds. I'm reading Jessica Brody's Sky Without Stars right now and I love it so much, maybe I'll have to look into Geography of Lost things eventually.

    1. When I was thinking of the fantasy books I have read, the worlds intrigued me, but those characters had some hard lives.

    1. Millie is such a star. The way she was in the adaptation was very true to book-Millie, and she is definitely someone with a stellar attitude, even when everything is not perfect.

    1. In SFF books, the characters will have cool powers and the worlds can be intriguing, but they are usually always in a LOT of danger.

  15. This is such a fantastic list, Sam :) I am yet to read Puddin' but Millie was my favourite character in Dumplin' itself and yes you are right. It would be great to have a few of her talents :)
There are so many books on your list I want to read :D

    1. Millie is just as wonderful in Puddin as she was in Dumplin. Love her to pieces.

  16. Amelia from Stay Sweet is such a great choice! I wish I had her ambition!

    1. She was in a tough situation and really grew into the role. I was so proud of her.

  17. I loved Love & Luck (and Love & Gelato), but I liked that Love & Luck focused on family and her relationship with her brother. Yes, there was the potential for a romantic relationship, but that wasn't what the story was about. So good! Also, I'm reading Cold Day in the Sun right now, and loving Holland! "Don't call me Dutch." <3

    1. I looked forward to every time Holland acted like that wasn't a great nickname and when it was all explained - swoon. I am still holding out for another "Love &" book. I want Rowan to come to American and make that romance a reality.

  18. Props for The Cure reference! :) Your inclusion of Zorie has me itching (again) to pick up Starry Eyes. I just wasn't in the mood for it when I was starting a new book the other day but I know it'll happen soon!

  20. I know there are a lot of characters I would love to swap with! I would also like to jump into Starry Eyes too. And I would also switch with one of the characters in The Upside of Unrequited because that book just has so much love and happiness in it.

  21. A lot of these are on my list to be read. Great picks and who doesn't love getting swept away in these amazing books. I can't wait to have the time to do all the reading I want to. =)
