Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

It's been a week, and this weather is not making it any better for me. I knew it was coming. I KNEW the white-stuff was bound to hit NJ, but did it have to be the one weekend I had plans? It snowed Friday and really snowed Saturday, which was the day I had tickets to see Mean Girls. But, by some miracle, the trains were running well, and we got to the city with no issues. Mean Girls was wonderful! It was so funny and the music was great. I really enjoyed it. We got a little tour after the play from my daughter's friend, and I have to say, it was pretty cool to stand on a Broadway stage and look out at the audience. Sloth had fun backstage too.

Sloth was very excited to meet Kevin G. aka Cheech

Then Sloth frolicked a little bit back stage

On the right, is the backside of the bathroom stall prop.
When someone famous comes to see the show, they sign the door.

For those of you fully entrenched in the Shatter Me series, they released a sneak peek for us

STACKING THE SHELVES

Remember when I was crying about those S&S rejections on Edelweiss? Well, I got approved for the new Menon book on NetGalley AND it's not a PDF!!! I was crying tears of joy, when I received the email, and THEN I saw this, which put me even more over the moon.
It's not a secret how much I love know what happened AFTER, so I will be eagerly awaiting this short story release.

Edelweiss/NetGalley
What I Read Last Week

I read two debuts, which absolutely knocked my socks off - Opposite of Always and The Sound of Drowning. I adored both books and am looking forward to more from both Fleet and Reynolds.

Books
So, uh, yeah, I just wanted to keep listening to the Hope books this week, so I did. ðŸ˜ƒ Burton hits all the different kinds of romances in this series, I love the community she has built, and there is a dog in each and every story. What's not to love?

What I Am Currently Reading

Look at me reading two library books, when I have a million of my own books. ðŸ˜‚

  1. Oh Mean Girls sounds so fun. Would love to see it performed like that! And that would be neat to be on the stage...

I love it when a debut knocks it out of the park. I'll have to look at Opposite of Always. And squad looks interesting!

    1. If you are a fan of the film, you would love the play. The dancing and music was great, and it was just as funny as the original. I have heard mixed things about Squad, but I am still interested in taking a look.

  2. It looks like Sloth had a great time! I take one of my monkeys everywhere I go and try to get nice photos-better than my ugly face in selfies for sure!

    1. Sloth is one of my daughter's favorite dolls, and she began posing him in pictures years ago. I love the photos she does with him.

  3. It’s so cool that you got to go backstage (and on the stage.) It looks like a fun play. Enjoy your new books!

    1. I have only done one other profession type back stage deal (The Rockettes), so it was quite a treat.

  4. I haven't been to a play in ages! I enjoy going when I know what the show is. The last one I saw was Beauty and the Beast which was amazing! I kept hoping The Little Mermaid would travel down to my city but it never did. Sigh...

Nice new reads too! Totally new to me ones, but I hope you will enjoy them all!

    1. I don't think I have been to Manhattan in years, since I always used to go with my daughter. We go to the playhouse in NJ instead (cheaper, closer), but it was a great show. I saw The Little Mermaid, when it premiered in NYC. It was really good.

  5. I want to see Mean Girls, the soundtrack is so much fun. I can't imagine what it would feel like to stand on a Broadway stage!

Has SS finally listened to us and got rid of the PDFs? That's literally the number one reason I don't request from them.

I finished Squad in a day...it was unexpected.

    1. I was shocked when Menon's new book had the mobi option available. I always got mobis from them on EW, but maybe now they are realizing PDFs are trash. Yesterday was really wild. We were waiting outside with the crowd, and Cheech came and walked us in. I felt fancy and special, as the other people behind the barricade looked on in envy.

  6. So glad you made it into the city with no problems! Mean Girls sounds so fun as a Broadway show, I'm kind of obsessed with the movie.

    1. The play is a lot like the movie, but with a lot of singing and dancing. It's been updated a little too, to make it more current. I really enjoyed it.

    1. I am all about the musicals, but I have not been into the city in ages, because it's expensive and chaotic.

  9. Glad to hear you had fun at Mean Girls and cool that you got to go back stage. Congratulations on the Edelweiss approval. They're so finicky. And yay to no PDF! I hate reading on my computer.

    1. There are some pubs that are really great to me on EW. So, I can't really complain. I also have a Fire, so I can read PDFs on it, but you cannot resize the font. That's one of the reasons I read eBooks. Look, I'm old - can't do the small print. I was so excited to get to go backstage. It was really nice of my daughter's friend to do that for us.

    1. The show was amazing. It's so expensive to see shows in the city, so it was a nice treat, and we have even more photos of our devastatingly handsome Sloth out on the town.

  11. So glad you were able to make it to show despite the bad weather. And Sloth had himself a time! :) I need to get Defy Me pre-ordered. I have the paperback of Restore Me being delivered tomorrow and can't wait to get back into the Shatter Me world. You had a seriously good reading week last week! Go you! :) Hope this week is just as good.

    1. I never buy big titles, because I know I will get them from the library eventually. I save the pennies for those little books my eLibrary will never buy. I am not a huge fan of going into the city, but it ended up being warm (40s), and the precipitation stopped before we left. The show was awesome too.

That's so cool that there's going to be a short story sequel to When Dimple Met Rishi.

    1. It was quite a treat, because it's been eons since I saw a show in the city. It was really sweet of my daughter's friend to make some time for us too, because he had a second show that day.

  15. The weather loves to hit at the worst of times, that's for sure! It's good to hear you made it safely to see Mean Girls in the city with no issues.

I also got an ARC from S&S and I was shocked when I saw the mobile option! Then I started dancing around because I don't have to worry about the ARCs expiring on me and frantically reading them, haha.

OMG OMG OMG A SHORT STORY SEQUEL TO DIMPLE MET RISHI AHHHHH.

    1. OMG, yes! The stupid pdfs expiring is stressful. I have two PDFs right now, but I should be reading them well before publication. I already have the WDMR short on my wishlist, so I am all ready to get it come April 1

  16. Oh my gosh that's so exciting you got to stand on the Broadway stage, WOW! I'm so happy for you! And YES!!! Snow always seems to come on the weekends, sigh. We've had a lot of 5-9 feet of snow weekends and our next storm is hitting us tomorrow, happy happy joy joy lol. And have so much fun reading Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis. I absolutely adore that series!

    1. The snow by you is insane. I am not rugged enough to withstand those snowfalls. It's pretty amazing to get to be on a legit Broadway stage. It was surreal seeing my daughter's friend too.

  17. Glad you made it to Mean Girls despite the bad weather. And how cool you got a tour backstage! I am so intrigued by which celebrities have signed the door. What a cool thing to get to do, very jealous. And when publisher turns you down for an awesome arc, another one approves you for another awesome read. Hope you enjoy it.

    1. The door I pictured has Tina Fey, Amy Pohler, and quite a few members of the Mean Girls movie cast. The other door was not too full, but I remember it had Neil Patrick Harris' signature. It was a neat tradition.

  18. How exciting to see the play for Mean Girls. Looks like sloth had as much fun as you did. Must be fun to be close enough to go see musicals and such. You guys up north have really been hit by the bad weather this year. Love you go out inspite of it! Thanks Sam! ❤️❤️

    1. I am about 40 mins out of the city, but honestly, it's been years since I have gone it. It's so expensive to get there and Broadway shows are quite a high price tag for me. We have our subscription to a local playhouse, which is usually a stop for many shows right before they go to NY.
