New-to-Me Authors!
I read a LOT of books in 2018, and was happy to "meet" so many new authors. Below are some of the AMAZING authors I read for the first time last year, who really blew me away, and had me wanting to read more of their books immediately.
- Rachel Lynn Solomon - You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone, Our Year of Maybe
- Akemi Dawn Bowman - Starfish, Summer Bird Blue
- Ashley Herring Blake - Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World
- Melina Marchetta - Saving Francesca
- Mia Garcia - Even If the Sky Falls, The Resolutions
- McCall Hoyle - The Thing with Feathers, Meet the Sky
- Wendelin Van Draanen - Flipped, The Running Dream, Wild Bird
- Emma Chastain - Confessions of a High School Disaster, The Year of Living Awkwardly
- Robin Benway - Far From the Tree, Emmy & Oliver
- Jenna Evans Welch - Love & Gelato, Love & Luck
I haven't read any of these! I do have several on my TBR however... I must get on this!
ReplyDeleteHope you get to some of these. I loved them!
DeleteI have Wild Bird but haven't read it yet. And Love and Gelato was one i really enjoyed! I still need to read Love and Luck.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Wild Bird. It was a solid read. I liked it, but loved the other two books.
DeleteI read a lot of good books by new authors this year including Ryan Graudin, Ernest Cline, Vivian Shaw, Matthew Reilly, LD Goffigan along with my horror and apocalypse authors!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked them so much.
DeleteGreat list! Love Robin Benway. I want to read Jenna Evan's Welch and Akemi Dawn Bowman
ReplyDeleteI bought a few other Benway books and hope to read them soon, because I really loved the ones I read
DeleteI wanted to put Robin Benway on my list, but I ran out of space. It was very hard to limit myself to 10.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Top 10s are always a struggle.
DeleteI’ve read three by Robin Benway. One I liked, one I loved, and one became an instant all-time favorite. After what she did in Far from the Tree I am in awe of her!
ReplyDeleteHer books are perfection for me
DeleteI didn't *think* I'd heard of any of these authors, but Saving Francesca, The Piper's Son (also Melina Marchetta) and Summer Bird Blue are all on my TBR!
ReplyDeleteI want to read more by Marchetta. I really, really enjoyed it
DeleteI haven't read these authors yet (unless you count Twitter, I follow a couple of these there). I have Starfish (it's in my TBR jar for this month even) but I haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteStarfish was great. Really emotional and hopeful too
DeleteRobin Benway has TWICE written a book that I was skeptical of, but ended up loving. Marchetta sure writes a wide variety of stuff, which always impresses me. The titles you listed for Emma Chastain make me want to check her stuff out, and I still want to get to Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World as well. Fun list!
ReplyDeleteI adore Chastain's books. Chloe Snow is a fabulous character. Ivy Aberdeen was so wonderful. I was really impressed
DeleteEvery time I see Akemi Dawn Bowman on one of your lists, I'm reminded that I need to get to Starfish already. I will in 2019. Hope you discover many more amazing authors in 2019.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to it. I am glad I read it.
DeleteOh nice! I have to say that these are all new to me authors! Glad you enjoyed so many new authors last year!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I love finding new authors
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but I do remember adding a few books to my TBR after hearing about it! Maybe I'll get around to them and enjoy them as much as you have.
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty much all contemporaries, and I think you read a lot more SFF than me. But, if the contemporary mood hits you, these were solid reads.
DeleteThis is a great list of new to you authors and I am glad there were so many wonderful authors on there for you to discover! I really loved Madeline Miller and Pierce Brown's books last year and they were new to me as well.
ReplyDeleteMy co-bloggers are fans of Brown's and I have heard great things about his work.
DeleteI don't think I've read any of these authors, but hooray for finding some new favorites!
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to "discover" someone new. I like going through the eLibrary and taking a chance on an older book from someone I have never tried before.
DeleteSo many authors I've yet to read. I'm excited to try some new ones this year!
ReplyDeleteThe list will never end!
DeleteOmg! I love everything Melina Marchetta has written! Glad you discovered her this year! :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read more of her books. Francesca was one I saw around A LOT, and I am really glad I gave it a go.
DeleteI adore so many of these authors! Obviously I love Rachel Lynn Solomon SO much, but a lot of these authors (at least the ones I have read!) are awesome too. I love Robin Benway's stuff- she's woefully underrated. I still need to read Summer Bird Blue but Starfish was really good! So glad you got to read all of this awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteBenway is so, so good. She does deserve more hype.
DeleteThis is a great list. Akemi Dawn Bowman and Ashley Herring Blake became auto-buy authors for me this year and I also really enjoyed Robin Benway and Jenna Evans Welch.
ReplyDeleteI need to read more Blake. Her new release looks SO good!
DeleteFlipped is such a wonderful book! It was one of my absolute favorites as a kid, and it's one of the only books that also stood the test of time and was still great when I reread it as an adult.
ReplyDeleteGetting feels just thinking about Flipped. Amazing book!
DeleteI'll be checking some of them out. Thanks for sharing.

Between those 10, there a ton of wonderful books to choose from.
DeleteI've heard wonders about Far From the Tree so I'll need to keep an eye on Robin Benway!
ReplyDeleteThat book deserves all the praise it gets.
DeleteI haven't read any books by the authors you mentioned! I'm glad that you found so many new-to-you authors in 2018! I hope you find even more in 2019 :)
ReplyDeleteMe too. I don't mind being late to the party, as long as I get there eventually.
DeleteI haven't read any of these authors, but I have many of them on my tbr already. Soon they'll be new to me too! 😂
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to sample a few, because they were really wonderful.
DeleteRobin Benway and Melina Marchetta are favorites of mine. 2018 was my year of reading what I wanted - I cut way back on obligatory reading. Didn't read as many books as usual but enjoyed them more!

I am that level, where I am sent ARCs, so I always pick what I want. That explains why I read so many contemporaries and romances. Hey, it's what I like.
DeleteI LOVED Ivy Aberdeen, and I definitely want to read more by Ashley Herring Blake. I also need to read Robin Benway and Melina Marchetta - their books intrigue me!

I hope you get to read some Benway. So far, her books have been perfection for me.
DeleteOooh I read Robin Benway's Oliver & Emmy when it first came out and I have been wanting to read more of her books! I'm so glad you loved Far From the Tree!
ReplyDeleteEmmy & Oliver was so emotional and beautiful and it's what I have grown to expect from Benway.
DeleteI haven't read any of these authors but I do have Our Year of Maybe and The Resolutions! So those two I will be reading. Some new to me authors! =)
