My Week in Review
This week was the same old, same old, but I had the extra aggravation of what Shannon has called Sweatergate. I ordered a sweater, they sent me a different sweater, and now they want to charge me $9.95 to return it by mail. I returned it to the store, but now, I have no sweater.
<- What I ordered; What I received ->
I won't lie, I was jumping up and down when I saw this announcement. I hope my favorite romance of the year is done right.

A pretty decent week. I got yet another copy of The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig. So, now I have two finished copies and an ARC. Keep your eyes open for a giveaway, because I really enjoyed the book, but by no means need three copies.
I saw the first book in The Rules series on sad and grabbed it, because I really enjoyed the final book of the series. There may have been some jumping up and down, when I was approved for the new Kinsella book. I am a fan. Her books make me smile.
Bought/Free
- The Slope Rules by Melanie Hooyenga
- The Manic Pixie Dream Boy Project by Lenore Applehans
- I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella
- Merrily Ever After by Jenny Holiday
What I Read Last Week
I was training someone at work this week, and also DNFed quite a few audiobooks, because they just weren't working for me in that format, so I only got through one this week. BUT, it was really good. The male narrator was incredible, and totally brought Cortney to life for me.
I had a really, really good run of books. I was impressed with my first adult contemporary by Julie Hammerle. It was such a fun rom-com, and as always, my middle grade read made my heart burst with joy. I am also really glad to finally be reading the Trouble series, because it's fantastic! And again, Strohm did not let me down. I found her latest book a little different from the previous three, but still great.
Books
- What Goes Up by Katie Kennedy - ★★★★
- What Goes Up by Wen Jane Baragrey - ★★★★ 1/2

- Love a la Mode by Stephanie Kate Strohm - ★★★★ 1/2

How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Oh no re: Sweatergate. How annoying. And they're making a movie out of Kiss Quotient? Cool!
ReplyDeleteGlad your books have mostly been good! I think several of your books from last week look like fun, including What Goes Up and Trouble Is A Friend of Mine. Those covers pique my interest. :)
The Trouble books are soooo good. I am loving the second one too. I keep getting vibes like that show Psych (which was a fave).
DeleteI didn't receive the wrong sweater, but once I received the wrong book edition. I contacted Amazon, but I had to send it back(the shipping would cost me more than the two pounds I paid for the book) and no guarantee they would send me the right edition, so I kept it.
ReplyDeleteYou got approved for the next Kinsella book?! I'm so jealous! I don't read many contemporary books, but I love her writing style. It always brights my day.
Happy readings! ;)
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
That's exactly my concern. That I return the item, and I never end up getting the correct one. I tried looking for it in the store, but they didn't even have that brand at the store near me. I almost kept it, but I was not crazy about the fit. I wanted something looser, like the sweater I ordered. I was really excited to get the new Kinsella. That pub is hit or miss for me, though they are more generous when it comes to adult titles than YA. Kinsella is a goto for me. Love all her books, because, like you said, she brightens my day.
DeleteI can safely say I've never used a receipt as a bookmark! I just pick up free advertising bookmarks in shops and libraries to use. I hate it when they send the wrong thing and charge you for their mistake. It gets me writing irate emails to the company!
ReplyDeleteI have definitely used a receipt or any shred of paper I could find to make my place in a book. I tried working with customer service. They told me one thing, and then their emails to me told a different story. I returned the item to the store, and my card was credited. I will have to find a sweater from somewhere else.
DeleteThat's a bummer about the sweater!
ReplyDeleteI was really disappointed, and now it's getting colder too. Drat!
DeleteI didn't realise Kinsella had a new book coming. I usually enjoy her books. Can You Keep A Secret? Is one of my favs.
ReplyDeleteI adored Can You Keep a Secret. I always love all her quirky heroines. I have read 17 books by Kinsella, and never tire of them.
DeleteBwahahahaha I love the sweatergate! No it's not funny and we had the same problem with a shirt my daughter ordered online but I love how you nicknamed your adventure Sam! Sweater problems aside this was not a bad blogging week for you! Have fun. Sophie @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteAll credit for Sweatergate goes to Shannon, and when I first saw her call it that, I was laughing really loudly. It totally cheered me up.
DeleteOMG wth! Why are they asking you to pay for returning a package that THEY got wrong?? I'd be so annoyed! I'm probably one of the only people who isn't thrilled about TKQ movie. I feel like they hardly ever get romance books right - they come across as too cheesy and the sex scenes make me want to cringe, and the sex in this book is such a big part of the story. Anyways, I do hope they surprise me and get it right and in either case, I'm very happy for Helen!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that insane? I just returned it to the store, no charge. I am always worried about a book adaptation, especially if it is a book I had really strong feelings about, like TKQ, but I am hoping for the best. That book has a lot of sex scenes too. I am really curious to see how they handle that.
DeleteYeah, those are not the same sweater. They shouldn’t have charged you to send it back. That’s not cool. I’ve used receipts as bookmarks! Other people must use them, too, because I pull them out of used books and library books pretty often.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I tweeted the picture of the two sweaters side by side, just to have other confirm they were indeed, different sweaters. I have used any scrap I could find. I used to craft a lot, so it was not unusual to find a piece of fabric or yarn in a book. Wasn't it you, who did the post on odd things found in old books? You could definitely attest to this as fact.
DeleteSweatergate...Love it, but bummed for you. I know how frustrating that can be. Happy reading.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental Sunday Memes
Thanks. It's all good. I mean, it's just a sweater, but when the rep tried to say, that maybe I did get the right sweater, but the description online was wrong, I was sort of over trying to work it out with them.
DeleteI can't believe they wanted you to pay $10 to return it! Thats nutty. I don't think I would be shopping there again anytime soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for TKQ as a movie....but also scared. if they screw it up, I will have to go to Hollywood and hurt someone!
Yeah, that was never happening. I really only order clothing and shoes online from places with physical stores near me. I cannot be bother returning things by mail. Yes, it limits where I can online shop from, but it also limits my aggravation. Fingers crossed they get TKQ right.
DeleteYou have so many books up there I want to read! The Accidental Beauty Queen looks like so much fun, and I can't wait for Sophie Kinsella's new one to come out!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to have a romance, veg-out week, and Beauty Queen sounds too fabulous. I love Kinsella. I was jumping up and down when I got that approval.
DeleteOh no! I’m so sorry about the sweater! It’s really annoying when things like that happen.
ReplyDeleteI’m so happy for Helena Hoang! What great news, another book to movie adaptation.
Also congrats on getting approved, I know that feeling well and it’s the best. I hope you enjoy it.
I see you are planning on reading My Favorite Half-night stand, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Hope you have a great week ahead. 💋 xoxo

I have a whole week of romance ahead of me, and I'm excited. I love that TKQ is being adapted, I just hope it is done right.
DeleteI read Merrily Ever After and My Favorite Half Night Stand last week! I really loved Merrily Ever After, the whole Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series is one of my favorites of the year! I enjoyed the new Christina Lauren, but my fave is still Josh and Hazel. Good luck with your reading this next week!
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing great things about the Bridesmaids series, and the novellas have been really well received too. If I like them, I may circle back and buy the whole series. I think Josh and Hazel is tied with Autoboyography for me right now. Both were spectacular.
DeleteI would be so angry if I got that sweater in the mail. Can't blame you for your frustration. I need to read the final book in the Trouble series. I wish it had gotten more attention in the blogosphere. Wishing you a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI was annoyed, but even more annoyed about them trying to charge me to return it. The Trouble series is really good. It's smart and witty and funny and it has that VMars/Psych appeal for me. I am glad the library has all the books.
DeleteOooh glad to see that you gave Love a la Mode 4 1/2 stars. I mean, I can't imagine it wouldn't be a good read, but I'm excited to keep reading it now. Hope you have a great reading week, Sam! :)
ReplyDeleteLove a la Mode was adorable. It was fun, but a lot more tender than her previous books. Still funny, but not as slapsticky. I liked it.
DeleteWowwww they wanted $10 for shipping? That is crappy customer service!
DeleteI am soo down for a romance week! Is Merrily Ever After available to buy or was it a review copy?
Amber Elise @ Du Livre
Amber - I got Merrily as an ACR from NG. It comes out next month. Sweatergate did not go my way. I am sweater-less and it's getting colder. *sad face*
DeleteI had something similar happen to me. The new filter pump for the pool came and quit almost immediately. They replaced it without having to send the broken one and that didn't work at alll. So, then they wanted me to send both back to be checked before sending another. It would have cost more than the pump to do that so I bought one from another company and it worked fine. What a fiasco! Enjoy the romance:)Tis the season.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
That's insane, and part of the reason why I still like shopping at brick and mortar stores. All my clothing/shoe shopping online is from sites that have stores nearby. I cannot be bothered with mailing things back and forth via the mail.
DeleteSweatergate. LOL Shannon does have a way with words. :) Stella + Michael on the big screen would be so awesome! Hooray for getting approved for the Kinsella book! I’m excited to see what you think of My Favorite Half-Night Stand. Hopefully the CL winning streak will continue! :)
ReplyDeleteTanya, they sent me a replacement sweater and it's the SAME WRONG SWEATER. I emailed them and told them they need to update the website with the right sweater and description. I am hoping they get TKQ right, because I will riot if they don't. It seems people are mixed on Half-Night, but they were on Josh & Hazel too, and I adored that book.
DeleteThat's such great news about The Kiss Quotient! I can't wait to see that film.
ReplyDeleteSweatergate sounds so obnoxious but I'm glad you were able to return it to the store and avoid the $10 shipping charge.
I hope whoever is adapting TKQ does a good job, because that is one of my top romances this year. Sweatergate was annoying, but now I still need some sweaters.
DeleteI can't believe that they wanted you to pay to ship back the wrong sweater that they shipped to you. It was completely their mistake! It looks like you had a good reading week even without getting through too many audios. I have weeks where nothing seems to click for me as well. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI emailed them back, and they apologized, saying I would not be charged, but I still returned it to the store. I like physically handing it over and seeing my refund processed. Most of last week's books were in the 300 range, so I can knock out one a day. I have longer books on my TBR this week, but balanced them out with two novellas.
DeleteHmm The Kiss Quotient could be interesting in a movie, rated R or X? It's got a high sex content. I also enjoy Sophie Kinsella for the humor. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteAn R rating isn't what it was back when I was younger. I am pretty sure Fifty Shades wasn't X, and they can tailor the scenes to be less explicit for an adaptation. Kinsella is always good for me. She does that light with lots of heart so well.
DeleteOh that situation sounds so annoying. They messed up the order and don't even want to take responsibility for it with the shipping cost. So bad of them!!! Also, so happy you liked Knocked Up Cinderella because I have had my eye on that one. Yay for the movie adaption. I hope it will be good ^.^
ReplyDeleteI actually returned the second wrong sweater the other day. I give up! Me and that sweater are not meant to be, but I told them they need to update their website to show the correct sweater and description. Cinderella made me so happy. I was expecting it to fall in the 3.5 - 4 star range, but there was so much more to the story than I anticipated, and I really loved the humor.
DeleteI can't believe they wanted to charge you to return a sweater which was quite obviously not the sweater you ordered. I would have been kicking off and demanding they pay me to return the thing. How ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI returned that wrong sweater (twice) to the store free of charge, but I had to go to the mall twice, so, still an inconvenience. I am so over that sweater. They sent me an email this morning about calling with my next order to get 10% off. Whatever!
