Can't Wait Wednesday: 29 Dates - Melissa de la Cruz

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I can't wait for 29 Dates !

29 Dates
Melissa de la Cruz

Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Inkyard Press
Release Date: December 18, 2018

Jisu's traditional South Korean parents are concerned by what they see as her lack of attention to her schoolwork and her future. Working with Seoul's premiere matchmaker to find the right boyfriend is one step toward ensuring Jisu's success, and going on the recommended dates is Jisu's compromise to please her parents while finding space to figure out her own dreams. But when she flubs a test then skips out on a date to spend time with friends, her fed-up parents shock her by shipping her off to a private school in San Francisco. Where she'll have the opportunity to shine academically—and be set up on more dates!

Navigating her host family, her new city and school, and more dates, Jisu finds comfort in taking the photographs that populate her ever-growing social media account. Soon attention from two very different boys sends Jisu into a tailspin of soul-searching. As her passion for photography lights her on fire, does she even want to find The One? And what if her One isn't parent and matchmaker approved?
Another book with a matchmaker this week. I don't know know if matchmakers are having some sort of resurgence, but I'd like to get me one here on team Sam. But, I digress...

Reasons I want to read this book:
  1. The cover -  Jisu looks a little mischievous on that cover, and I want to know more about her.
  2. The premise - I sense a bunch of things, among them, a cultural clash with her parents and a coming of age. I am curious to see how de la Cruz navigates it all.
  3. Photography - I always enjoy a character finding and exploring their passion, and I especially enjoy when it is something I am not good at, because I like learning about it.
  4. The dates - We get to go on 29 dates, and there are bound to be some that are fantastic and fun.
I feel like, if there was a book matchmaker, they would put me and this book together.

Just in case you can't stop singing this song.....

What are you waiting on?

  1. This does sound fun- the clash with parents, coming of age, all that- plus the dates. I agree this could be really good, almost like a To All The Boys like story in some ways, maybe.

    1. It's an interesting comparison to TATBILB, because in that book, the girls were trying to hold on to pieces of their culture, while here, it sounds like she is trying to shed parts.

  4. This does sound fun! I've only seen Cruz publish fantasy/paranormal reads so it should be interesting to see how she does with contemporary romance. :)

    1. I think her paranormal books are more popular but I read her adult contemporary last year and she had a bunch of contemporaries back in the day

  5. Ooooo I'm generally NOT a matchmaking type of person, but like you said - Jisu looks mischievous and I really want to know what kind of trouble and mayhem she puts herself through to get out of those dates (let's be honest, but I'd do it too, haha).

  17. I have heard of this author before but still have to read any of her works! I totally agree that having a passionate character is a lot of fun. Photography in particular fascinates me so I love to read about it. Although my own skills don't stretch beyond bookstagram.

    1. You do some pretty neat stuff in your bookstagram. You have 1000 times more skills than I do.
