Top Ten Tuesday: Something Paranormal This Way Comes

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Something Paranormal This Way Comes!

It's almost Halloween, and scary things are synonymous with this day. Well, we all know I lean towards the light and fluffy, and therefore, haven't really read many scary books, but I have read some  that feature some otherworldly creatures, and fall nicely into the paranormal genre.
  • Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead - Vampires, dhampirs, an awesome heroine, and a killer romance had me loving this series.
  • Bloodlines by Richelle Mead - I was so excited to spend more time in this world, and to do so with Sydney and Adrian was a treat.
  • How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather - Mather did a great job weaving her family history into this Salem witch story.
  • Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova - Loved getting to learn about witches in Latin culture and enjoyed the fabulous family focus.
  • When Life Gives You Demons by Jennifer Honeybourn - a great Buffy-type heroine, who happens to be an exorcist-in-training enhanced my enjoyment of this fun tale.
  • Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins - a reform school for witches, faeries, and shapshifters was the setting for a series I adored.
  • Fallen by Lauren Kate - This was an epic, across the ages love story, which happens to involve angels and the battle between good and evil.
  • Soulless by Gail Carriger - It says it right on the cover of the book - a novel of vampires, werewolves, and parasols. So. Much. Fun.
  • Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - Probably my favorite of the Shadowhunter's series, it features the usual paranormal suspects, but with a steampunk flavor.
  • My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent - Banshees and reapers and romance. I read them all.

Do you have a favorite paranormal book or series?

    1. I was really excited when Mead wrote Bloodlines, because I was not ready to leave that world. I still would love more. I was thinking an aged-up Declan in his own series.

  5. People have recommended Soulless to me before. I’m not sure if it’s my kind of thing, but I am interested in reading it. It sounds unusual.

    1. Carriger does that time period so well. I have read her YA series, which features younger versions of the same characters, and found it fantastic as well

  7. One day I’m going to break open that box set of the Vampire Academy sitting on my shelf and binge the whole thing. (Really, I will!) Clockwork Angel was so good. I enjoyed the whole TID trilogy but meeting Tessa and Jem and Will in that first book was so wonderful.

  9. I try to dispel my fear of vampires by reading 'soulless' but I just couldn't finish the book as every few pages, the word vampires keeps appearing. and also I didn't like the central character which I can't remember the name.

I doubt I would read any of the other on your list but no big deal as everyone has different taste.

    have a lovely day.

  15. My friend Lydia at work LOVES The Vampire Academy books. One day at work she was talking about it for about 1/2 hour. I'd like for her to beta read my NaNoWriMo book, but there's no vampires in there (just some very evil elves).

I'm #2 on hold at the library for Clockwork Angel. Finished The Mortal Instruments though! Can't wait to read the next series.

    1. If you read Bloodlines, it kind of keeps you in the VA world, and many of the major players from VA pop up and play important roles at some point.

I haven't read the others except The Infernal Devices series (Jem & Will!) and Fallen but will check the others out. I love me some paranormal romances/reads.

    1. That was such a great series, and I was really pumped about there being a spinoff, when we got that one book. I thought she might pick back up with that when Rebel Belle was done, but alas, it was abandoned. *sad face*

  28. The only one of these I have read is Clockwork Angel and it wasn't really the book for me... I found it too similar to the mortal instruments in terms of characters! But I do want to read Soulless because it sounds so cool, and I have heard good things about the Bloodlines series as well ^.^

    1. TDI is set sort of in the same world, different time period, but still the same world. There were bound to be a lot of similarities. I have loved all of Carriger's books, and I like the way she took us into that world at all different age levels. The Parasol Protectorate is adult, The Custard Protocol books are more NA, and The Finishing School books are YA. We even get to see some of the characters at different ages through the series.
