My Week in Review
This week started off so sad. I love being on vacation, and that trip home is always such a downer, which was compounded by saying "goodbye" to my only child. I am lucky that we have so many holidays in a row, because I will get to see her in November and December.
My first day back at work didn't start great. Obviously, my bus didn't show up, and I had to drive the 40 miles to work, which I abhor, but I was greeted with cards, cupcakes, and cake! We had 4 consecutive birthdays on my team, and one of my awesome co-workers bought this amazing (and delicious) cake, but didn't realize I would already be on vacation. BUT, because she is so awesome, she froze a piece for me to enjoy when I got back. That's love, people.
When your co-workers bring a cake for your birthday, but you're off for the next week. It looks amazing though 😍 pic.twitter.com/QSRwWFNyvR— Sam@WLABB (@kozbisa) October 3, 2018
I think fall has finally arrived. It was was in the 80s on Thursday, but about 20 degrees cooler on Friday. YEAH! I kind of hope we get a little of that in-between weather, which I remember being part of fall once upon a time. Lately, it seems like it's just hot or cold. Boo!
I just finished reading Slothilda, and therefore, am inspired to share cute things. (Though, did everyone see that we are getting more Legend books!!!!!)

What I Read Last Week
I read an interesting mix of books this week. Obviously, I enjoyed Slothilda. You all know how much us WLABBers love sloths.
My best of the bunch was This is What it Feels Like. This was quite a story of old friends finding their way back to each other after two years filled with huge changes. I really, really enjoyed this one. The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig was a close second. The author is apparently known for his very funny plays, and Amy and Craig was packed with humor, but this was definitely a case of it's-me-not-the-book, because though I enjoy these doomed love stories, they just don't please me as much as those HEA romances.

How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
It is a downer being home after vacation. But, on the other hand, vacations are exhausting, and it's nice to have your own bed and everything again! And aww, how sweet of your coworker!
ReplyDeleteDouble downer saying goodbye to my daughter at the airport too. *sad face* My hotel was pretty nice. I sort of miss the 400 pillows that were on the bed.
DeleteAw the end of vacation is always tough! I always hate coming back. :) And I agree about the weather- where did the moderate weather go? It just seems to transition now from hot to cold, with no in- between.
ReplyDeleteSlothilda looks awesome. :)
Back to reality and the grind. *ouch* Slothilda is adorable. I have always been a fan of the cartoons, an dit was a fun little book.
DeleteI'm impressed they save you a piece of cake! The vultures in my office would have eaten the lot and sent me pictures captioned with how nice it was! 😂
ReplyDeleteIt's not too cold where I am at the moment but omg the rain... I feel like I should be building an arc and making preparations!
I am well loved by some of my co-workers, but I was surprised she saved it for a whole week. It was very sweet of her. We had a lot of rain this past spring and summer, with a lot of places in the US experiencing flooding. We felt a bit of the hurricane effect, but I think it only rained a day or two here. It's all a blur.
DeleteSloth would be my speciality too! I've felt like that all week! Slothilda looks like fun! And how nice to arrive home to cake!
ReplyDeleteSo much cake. I couldn't eat anything sweet for like 2 days after what I did on Wednesday. >_<
DeleteAww, I hate that feeling too of getting back off holiday! But yay for the cake! That's so nice of your colleague!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week :)
Cake is a good thing. Maybe if we had more cake, we could solve more of the world's problems.
DeleteSlothilda seems kinda cute! Then again, so does Big Stick! LOL Oh what lovely colleagues you have saving you cake!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Wrap Up Post. Hope you can drop by!
Slothilda is adorable, and I definitely share a lot of her opinions on diet and exercise. I am an Aces fan. I started with the 5th book, which was really, really emotional compared to the others, and I recently finished all the rest. Me and hockey romances are a perfect match.
DeleteYour co-worker was so sweet. And the cake is beautiful. That surely helps post-holiday blues. *.* I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Sam.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Slothilda is so adorable!!! *.*
Enjoy your new books.
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
It was one of my better birthdays, since it was the first time in 6 years that I got to spend it with my daughter AND I was in Epcot.
DeleteThat's nice that she saved you some cake! Cake helps when you're coming off that vacation high.
ReplyDeleteI really didn't expect that. It was super sweet of her.
DeleteI’m glad you had a good vacation AND got cake. It’s nice that they saved you a piece. The people around here gobble food as quickly as possible. I hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
You know, let them eat cake. I feel like they would not have saved me a piece had the cake been for someone else's birthday.
DeleteI feel you about vacations. It's always so weird and sad when they end, especially when you have to leave a loved one. That's so sweet of your co-worker for saving you a slice of cake. Very thoughtful!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all your new reads! :)
That last day of vacation is such a buzzkill, and I cried saying goodbye to the kid in the airport too.
DeleteI always try to have a few days left before going back to work after a vacation. Time to recoup and relax. That was really sweet about the cake. Enjoy those new reads!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
I got home Monday by like 2pm and didn't go back to work until Wednesday. I didn't need that much recovery time.
DeleteHaha, why am I not surprised that you would read, let alone love, a book about sloths? 😂
ReplyDeleteIt's sweet that you got some quality (and fun) time with your daughter, and you have the most wonderful colleagues ever! I SO envy you for your workplace (not for its being 40 miles from home though LOL).
If my daughter didn't have Sloth Saves the Day with her in Chicago, I would have done a double review of sloth books. The worst part about my job is my commute. Otherwise, there is no stress, my teammates are pretty awesome, my management team is amazing, and I am treated well. After working in a public school for 12 years, it's great to be treated like an actual human again.
DeleteAw, I feel sad that you are sad. I hope the holidays come quick and last long!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter will be home in 5 weeks for Thanksgiving, and then just a short wait until Christmas. Since she is a consultant, she is working remotely and will be home for a week each time too, which is pretty awesome.
DeleteWelcome back! (even though you are a little sd) I hope you enjoyed your vacation!Sorry to hear about you having to drive on your first day back at work but hey! cake! yes! I can't way for you to read and review cuses! It looks good!
ReplyDeleteCake really does make most things better. You guys may get a special treat if Kiersten can fit the book in, maybe she will review The Curses. She is a huge fan of the series.
DeleteYes I always get the after vacation blues. It has to be hard being farther away from a child. Yay for your awesome coworker. I want cake!
ReplyDeleteBetween the four gourmet cupcakes and the awesome seven layer cake, I was sugar buzzing like a fiend. I was sad when the vacation ended, but we booked our next trip, and now I can count down to that.
DeleteI was listening to One Perfect Kiss, but the narrator's attempt at accents is really irritating me. I think I'm gonna have to switch to the book instead.
ReplyDeleteYay for awesome coworkers who save cake!
I am laughing, because I thought she should have abandoned the attempt as well. But, I liked the story enough to keep listening.
DeleteOh getting back to the routine after vacation is always so hard. But at least you can look forward to November and December for more vacation so yay! And you have the nicest co-workers, that's so cool!! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so, so happy you enjoyed This Is What It Feels Like, this book sounds so, so great, I'm so impatient to read it!! :D
Have a wonderful week!
Barrow's new book was really, really good. It's totally character driven, which I am fond of, and I liked the friendship that was front and center of the story.
DeleteAw, I'm sorry your week started rough. Hurray for cake though! And yay for better weather! It has finally cooled off a bit here too. Awesome haul this week. I really need to read The Graces at some point. I hope you love all your new books!
ReplyDeleteYeah, vacation hangovers are hard. We are fans of The Graces. Kiersten is reading The Curses right now, so she will let me know how it is.
DeleteSad to hear about the way your week was, but at least there was cake involved :) (it looks great, btw!) It's so adorable that she saved a piece for you.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I love the little doggie with the sunglasses :D it's perfect :D and the hedgehog! You're absolutely making my day better :D
I know, right? I didn't expect them to save me a piece since I was gone for a week, but my co-worker wrapped it up and froze it and then defrosted it for me. So sweet. That dog is amazing. I had to share.
DeleteSome week can start "off" indeed Sam! let's hope the next one will be better. And I am happy to see that you loved mammoth! Sophie @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteNow I am back to the grind. So, every day seems the same. At least it's cooler now and I can wear cozy sweaters.
DeleteThat cake looks amazing! Are those macaroons on top?? It's sweet that brought a cake for you! Our weather has been hot or cold, too. There's no fall-feeling weather, though. It's almost 90 degrees today, but the high is supposed to be 54 degrees on Tuesday. It's crazy! I'm ready for the cold, though. I love wearing jackets and booths! I'm more outdoorsy when my body isn't threatening to melt into a puddle on the ground.
ReplyDeleteI started The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig today, so I'll hold off on reading your review. <3
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?
Yes, there were macaroons on top. Sadly, I did not get one of those, but the cake was incredible. We sort of skipped the 60s and 70s in these parts too, which is sad, but hey, at least it's not hot. My review for Amy & Craig is for a tour and won't be up until the 25th. I hope you like it, because I did.
DeleteIt is always tough to go back to work after being on vacation. I love that your co-worker saved you a piece of cake. I guess cake would make things better after vacation :) It has been in the 40s and 50s here. I am pretty sure that we skipped fall! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe cake was so unexpected, I almost cried. It's rainy here today, but supposedly will be 67. Fallish?
DeleteYay for vacation but totally get the downer of it ending and having to say goodbye to your daughter. Aw how sweet of your coworkers. I am so excited that it has been cooler here. I love fall weather so much. Enjoy your books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope this weather sticks around until the new year. So not in the mood for snow any time soon.
DeleteComing back from vacation is always tough, but that's awesome your co-worker froze you a piece of cake! How fun. I'm glad the weather is getting cooler too.

Everything about my job is pretty good, except the commute.
DeleteIt always feels bad after coming from a vacation. They are best :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I am impressed by your friend who saved you that piece of cake.
You read some good book. This is What it Feels Like and Social Intercourse is also on my TBR.
i hope you enjoy your new books. Have a lovely week :)
I loved This is What it Feels Like and really enjoyed Social Intercourse, which was extremely funny.
DeleteSam Belated Happy Birthday! Having an only child I feel your pain. My 3 yo still sleeps with me 😂
ReplyDeleteAngelica @ Paperback Princess
Thank you! My daughter slept with me for a long time, since it was only us. I miss having her around
DeleteThe videos are so darn cute. I love critters.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental Sunday Memes
The best use of the internet are animal videos
DeleteAwww, coming back to work after vacation is always such a downer. I'm glad that you'll get to see your daughter again soon.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday to you!
Thanks! Coming back to reality is tough, but I just got my confirmation for my trip next year, and can start putting all my energy in that. =)
DeleteWhen we went to disney - it was a real big vacation for us and omg I had the blues after it. Glad you are home and get to try that cake!
ReplyDeleteMary
I have the blues after every vacation. I don't miss the lines or heat of Disney when it's over, but I miss the energy and magic of being there.
