Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

In two days, I will be in the happiest place on earth with my most favorite person on earth. If that's not exciting enough, I will also be reunited with Sloth. I will be there for a week, and apologize in advance for being a little MIA.

Today is the our first show of the season, and we are seeing The Color Purple. This book has been coming up a lot this past week, as it was banned books week, and all I can say is, I read this book back in the 80s and have never forgotten how powerful a book it was. Needless to say, I am excited to see this as a musical.

What I Read Last Week

A lot of good reading took place this week. I think my favorite book was Fight or Flight. It was fun and swoony and emotional, and it left me wanting more. It was probably one of the more upbeat books, with the exception of Check, Please!, that I read the week too. All my YA reads were on the heavier side, and were good and thought provoking, but you know me, I can usually only do that stuff in small doses, and I think I ODed this week.

What I Am Currently Reading

Halle is always a good read for me, and I am enjoying Before I Ever Met You. It's sort of a May-December romance, but there is nothing sordid about it. The hero is actually pretty amazing, and Halle made me sympathetic towards him with that shocking prologue.

One Day in December got messy fast! I struggle with wanting Lu to move on and also not give up on her and Jack, but really enjoying it. Sort of reminds me of my love and frustration for Love, Rosie.

What I Plan to Read

Not sure how many books I will get through this week, since I will be in Disney from Wednesday until next Tuesday, but these are the last of my October ARCs, and. would love to get them all read and reviewed.

How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!

  1. A week in Disney, I'm assuming? Hope you have a great time and good weather! Fight or Flight looks great- glad to hear it was good- and that hedgehog pic is cute. :)

    Happy Sunday!!

    1. Yes, Disney. Sadly, it looks like 90s for me. Not stoked about the weather, but excited to be there. Fight or Flight was fun and emotional and you know, I always get an HEA with my romances, so that keeps me going.

  2. Two more days... the countdown is on! So excited for you, Sam! Wave at me as you fly over Jacksonville. :) Sorry I couldn't arrange for some more fall-like weather but... yeah, 90 degrees *is* fall in Florida as I'm sure you remember. LOL Nice that you had some lighter reads to offset the heavier ones this week. I definitely need a balance, too. You have me intrigued by One Day in December. It's what I plan on picking up after I finish The Gentleman's Guide. Hope you have a fantastic week away with your girl!

    1. I went to Disney every year for my birthday, and it was not this oppressive. It was normally mid-80s, which is better, not much, but better than 90s. Canadian cruise next year for me. One Day in December was WONDERFUL!! It really does have that When Harry Met Sally meets Love, Rosie thing going on. The beginnings, endings, and bad timing get a little frustrating, but you understand that it's all part of their journey to each other. I shed too many tears, but I loved it.

    1. I jumped on the Thorne book, when it went up on EW the other day. I feel like it will be a good fit for me, since I enjoyed Thorne's previous book. I got my ponchos and my t-shirts ready for WDW!

  4. I hope you have lots of fun this week. I've wanted to read The Color Purple for a while - I was expecting it to be a mandatory reading for my MA, but no such luck.

Watch You Burn seems quite interesting. I hope you enjoy it.

    Happy readings! ;)

    1. My co-worker told me she read The Color Purple for her freshman English class in high school. I was surprised. It's a pretty mature book, and graphic too. It's fantastic though. Early reviews for Watch You Burn are not great, but I am going to see how it is, since I really enjoyed the author's debut.

    1. We lived in FL for a few years, and used to go once a month. We even went out to Disneyland California and Disneyland Paris once. We are fans. Kiersten is bringing Sloth, so we should get some good shots of him out there.

  6. Tiring week, relaxing weekend! I'm getting my strength back for another week of house tidying to come. Oh joy! Enjoy your holiday!

    1. House tidying never seems to end. I get a sense of gratification, when everything looks nice, but some things you spend a lot of time cleaning never get to that point, and it's a thankless job.

  7. Oh nice!! I'm still two weeks away from my own Disney trip! I'm super excited for it since I've never been there at Halloween time! I am so looking forward to it! Hope you have an amazing trip!

Nice new reads too! Totally new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them both!

    1. Maybe you will have better weather, because it's going to be less than spectacular when I am there. Hot and rainy, but I saw that NJ was getting near 80 this week too, so --sigh-- east coast woes.

  8. Oh have fun on your trip!!! Disney world or Disney land? I've never been to Disney land (since I live in Ohio) but have been to Disney world 3 times and just love it!
    Enjoy your books!

    1. Disney World. I have been to WDW more than 70 times, because I used to live in FL, DL Cali once, and DL Paris once. We have done 4 cruises and 4 Adventures by Disney. I love the brand.

    1. This is my first proper vacation in years. I spent my last few moving the kid to and from colleges. Since Kiersten will be with me, there should be pictures. She can actually take a good photo, unlike me, who took 8 tries to get my last mobile deposit through.

    1. Paper Mill always puts on a good show, so the play should be great. Disney is never a bad time, so I am sure it will be fun despite the weather, and I will be reunited with Kiersten and Sloth. What more could I ask for?

    1. Fight or Flight was a lot of fun, but had those emotional moments, that Young does so well. I really liked it. I was so excited when I was approved for 99 Percent Mine. I will probably be reading it in December, and really can't wait!

  14. Oh Sam have a lot of fun with your favorite person next week and enjoy the show! Thanks for the link to Barnes and Nobles Teen. Did you know that Barnes and Nobles does not ship any longer to Europe???? They ship to Iran, Afghanistan etc but not Europe and I don't know why! I learned it this week as I wanted to pre-order their special edition of The Wicked King! No luck :( Sophie @bewareofthereader

    1. I keep putting that one off, because reviews have been terrible. Epic Love Story was wonderful. I really enjoyed it, and actually would say, I devoured it. I love the way the author did not put labels on anyone in the story. It was all so natural and fluid and refreshing, and well, the romance was so darn cute too.
