It’s been five years since Summer Marks was brutally murdered in the woods. At this point, I have a rock-solid relationship with Lauren Oliver. My gateway may have been the Delirium books, but my favorites are her stand-alones.
Everyone thinks Mia and Brynn killed their best friend. That driven by their obsession with a novel called The Way into Lovelorn the three girls had imagined themselves into the magical world where their fantasies became twisted, even deadly.
The only thing is: they didn’t do it.
On the anniversary of Summer’s death, a seemingly insignificant discovery resurrects the mystery and pulls Mia and Brynn back together once again. But as the lines begin to blur between past and present and fiction and reality, the girls must confront what really happened in the woods all those years ago—no matter how monstrous.
This has a little bit of a ripped-from-the-headlines feel with the girls' obsession with a fictional world driving them to murder. But they didn't do it, and now we have a solid mystery to pursue.
It sounds a dark and twisty, but I trust Oliver to deliver something I will love, and seriously, I really want to know what happened in the woods.
What are you waiting on?

I read a review for this one yesterday and it sounds amazing. I haven't read any Oliver books yet!
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few people reading it, and a few that finished with just a few thoughts, but all has been positive.
DeleteI quite like that cover...it's interesting and effective.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely captures what I think the tone of the book is
DeleteI liked that she's thrown expectations with the fact that they didn't do it and have to prove their innocence. Definitely one I am looking forward to!
ReplyDeleteMe too. I wonder if that declaration is legit or something to throw us off track
DeleteThis definitely sounds like it was inspired by real events! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteThat always makes some of stuff that much more shocking
DeleteSo excited for this one!!! Love Lauren Oliver!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteI've seen this one around a lot and it sounds really good! This may be my first Lauren Oliver book!
ReplyDeleteI have read most of her books. I need to hit up her MG books

ReplyDeleteI have a good feeling about it.

The duology was good, but I liked Vanishing Girls even more, and this one seems to have that kind of vibe
DeleteI'm almost done with this and....I have some feelings.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't sound good. =/
DeleteCan you believe that I have not read Oliver yet? I do like the the sound of this one quite a bit and I always enjoy a well done thriller.
ReplyDeleteShe has a lot of really great books, and some variety in there too.
DeleteI still need to read my first Lauren Oliver book and I have a feeling that this one may end up being my first since I do enjoy a good YA thriller. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteThe standouts for me (so far) are Vanishing Girls and Before I Fall <-- made me cry.
DeleteMystery/thrillers are my jam! Can't wait for this one either. It sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteNot my goto, but I always seem to enjoy a book by Oliver, and I am hopeful she dazzles me once again.
DeleteI have a love-hate relationship with Lauren Oliver! I have still to forgive her for the love triangle...
ReplyDeleteIn Delirium?
DeleteI am reading this right now! So the story itself is compulsively readable for me- like I read 200 pages in one sitting because I HAD TO. There are a couple things making me MAD though so I am very interested in hearing your thoughts! I hope you get to read it soon, and that you enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteAmber was none too pleased with it. So, I am a little worried, but the fact that you blazed through 200 pages is promising.
DeleteI'm with you, Sam! This sounds like such such such an interesting read. I loved her previous mystery, The Vanishing Girls, and Oliver can definitely do a plot twist. It sounds so interesting, and I'm ready for all the woods drama! Wonderful post. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like Vanishing Girls is so underrated. I loved it, but felt so alone in my love for the book.
