My Week in Review
The only problem with having the 4th of July off is that I didn't have the 5th off too. The fireworks were going off until all hours and there was a cricket match going on outside my window as well. This all means not much sleep for Sam, but I survived. My daughter surprised me by planning a trip for us to Disney for my birthday. LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN! It's been several years since I went on a real vacation, and needless to say, I am very excited.
TBR Wipeout Update:
One week in and I have adhered to my TBR. I am usually good for a week, but I am pretty determined to get these books read. I have finished 5 books and am almost finished with another 2.
Things I Found Interesting:
I don't read a lot of fantasy books, but I know a lot of you do.

I am so in love with both these books! Both are filled with girl power, and while Girls Can't Hit is hilarious, Stay Sweet is really touching, and well, sweet.
- Girls Can't Hit by T.S. Easton
- Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian (audiobook)
What I Plan to Read
- When Life Gives You Demons by Jennifer Honeybourn
- The Impossibility of Us by Katy Upperman
- Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno
- Half Empty by Catherine Bybee
How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Congrats on the Disney trip! that's pretty awesome. :) And I'm curious about The Other side of Lost, since I read my first Jessi Kirby not too long ago. I always like to follow up if I find an author whose first book I enjoy, but I haven't with her yet.
ReplyDeleteI Read YA Week looks great.
I liked The Secret History of Us, but I LOVED Things We Know by Heart. I am trying to get through Kirby's backlist, because I am really enjoying her books.
DeleteI feel you on having to work on the 5th after fireworks into the wee hours. On the plus side, it seems that half my office took Thu-Fri off so it was quiet the rest of the week. Hooray for the Disney trip! A vacation is way past due. You are already killing the TBR Wipeout... go you! That Buzzfeed quiz was too funny. :) I've basically quit looking at Edelweiss and NetGalley, but I'm excited to see a new one from Emma Scott!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people took off the 5th-6th. It made my commute a little easier. I think that book by Emma Scott is already out. GR says it came out in Feb, but I don't remember it. I have a lot of luck getting romance books (more than with YA). I should really think of switching over.
DeleteHooray for Disney!! I would love to go again soon. I hear ya about 4th of July - people in our neighborhood were setting off fireworks all night.
ReplyDeleteWe lived in FL for 6.5 years, and used to go to WDW once a month. It's something we enjoy, but I really did not want to do another summer trip. FINALLY!! After 18 years, my daughter is free of her school schedule and we can go when the weather is more pleasant. I am really looking forward to it.
DeleteOh Disney! What a great vacation. We planned our Disney vacation too. Wow what great progress on the wipe out! That is awesome. Hope you have a great week adn enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to go to Food and Wine Fest, but I did NOT want to go in the summer. The oppressive heat limits my enjoyment, so I am overjoyed to be going in Oct.
DeleteOh yay for a Disney trip!! I've got one planned myself for October! I've been dying to be in my favorite place at one of my favorite times of year! So I'm doing it!!
ReplyDeleteNice new reads too! Mostly new to me ones but I did read Little Monsters and liked that one Kara is fast becoming a favorite author! Hope you enjoy all your new reads!
Here's my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
My favorite time to visit Disney was Feb, because I thought the weather was perfect and the crowds were small, but I have always wanted to do Food & Wine. So, daughter of the year award goes to my darling child this year. I Loved Thomas' first book, and have been wanting to read more. I had to snatch that book up for $1.99
DeleteMy husband had off the 4th but had to get up at 300 the next morning. So we didn't do much for the 4th either. Love the new books this week. Hope you have a wonderful week and happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI am at that age, where I sort of like doing nothing most of the time.
DeleteI really wish that the 4th would be observed on a Monday like other holidays. I always take this week off of work largely because sleep doesn't come early due to fireworks noise. Disney with your daughter sounds like a lot of fun! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI sort of like having a break in the middle of the week, but even having it on a Monday wouldn't have resolved my noise/sleeping issues. So excited about Disney!
DeleteI understand the noise issues. My neighbors have been getting drunk and shooting off fireworks for a week. Don’t those people work? I don’t understand. I hope the Disney trip is lots of fun. Good luck with TBR wipeout!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
We had just had a whole mess of fireworks for Eid, but at least those were on the weekend. Every time I have a day off during the week, I ask myself that same exact question - doesn't anybody work?
DeleteA Disney vacation sounds spectacular!!! Hope you have tons of fun!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
The only problem is that October is so far away!!! But it will be nice to see the mouse and see my kid too. By then, she would have been gone for 4 months.
DeleteI'm so jealous! I have never been to Disney and although I am now an adult (i guess) I still get super excited at the thought of going. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWe are really lucky. We lived in FL for 6.5 years, and used to go a lot. Now it's a real treat to go, because we go a lot less often.
DeleteYay for a vacation!!! I love Disney! And I am so excited for Queen of Air and Darkness! I just made an instagram post about it the other day. I NEED IT NOW!! And good job sticking to your TBR! I'm terrible at that!
ReplyDeleteI am super intersted in seeing how CC ends that series. I know she will find a solution, but I am really interested in seeing how she works her way out of this.
DeleteOooooh, I didn't know about the I Read YA week, but I'm going to have to start paying attention tomorrow! So so glad that you are enjoying Stay Sweet! It was such an adorable read for me, and the girl power is great. And Disney vacation???? Sounds marvelous! ;) Wonderful post, Sam, and good luck with the TBR wipeout!
ReplyDeleteStay Sweet was so adorable. I found Molly's part of the story so inspiring and loved the legacy she left behind for the young women of her town.
DeleteYay for Disney! I haven't been in a few years but I'm hoping to get back there in 2019 once all of the new Star Wars parts are finished. Thanks for the link to the most anticipated YA fantasies. I hadn't heard of a few of those so will definitely be checking them out :)
ReplyDeleteI think the last time we went to WDW was 2014. It seems like so much longer, but now I don't have to go in the summer!!!!
DeleteI'm glad you overall enjoyed Final Draft, Sam! I can't wait for you to read The Impossibility of Us, I read that one recently and fell in love with it <3 <3
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have tons of fun at Disney! :D
I am starting The Impossibility of Us today and I am really excited. I though Upperman's debut was fantastic, and I have heard this one is even better.
DeleteDISNEY! Disney, disney, disney, disney DISNEY! I LOVE Disney! Oh, I hope you both have the most wonderful time when it comes! I can't wait until we can go back. :)
ReplyDeleteOctober is so far way, but it will be such a lovely way to celebrate my birthday. I get to see the mouse AND my kid ❤
DeleteOMG SURPRISE DISNEY TRIP?! TELL ME EVERYTHING SAM, EVERYTHING!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's for my birthday in October. We are going for Food & Wine fest. It will be the first time I see my daughter since she moved to Chicago, so that is the best part of it, but you know, the mouse is cool too.
DeleteI've never been to Disney but I've always wanted to visit! I hope you have a wonderful trip and birthday when the day comes! Playing Hurt sounds like a good read :)
ReplyDeleteWe were lucky to have lived in Florida less than 2 hours away for several years. We used to go often, so now I kind of miss it. I would love to visit ALL the Disney parks, but so far have only been to Florida, California, and Paris. Hong Kong and Tokyo will probably only ever be fantasies of mine.
DeleteWow. Great job on the TBR wipe out. And I sure like the looks of your books. How awesome of your daughter to surprise you with the trip! I hope you have a blast:)
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Looking forward to my trip will keep me sane. I'm excited.
DeleteI also didn't have the 5th off! I mean, I could have taken the rest of the week off but we have a deadline for our project at work so I decided not to. More time to take off after the deadline, right?
ReplyDeleteOhh! So excited for your trip to Disney! Are you going to Disney World? I haven't been there but I have been to Disneyland!
We have been to Disneyland (CA) and Disneyland Paris one time each, but WDW is our most visited Disney, and where we will go in Oct, because we are going for Food & Wine Fest and it's a lot closer to me. I loved Disneyland! I kept going back to get warm tortillas all day. =)
DeleteOoh how fun that you're going to Disney with your daughter. I'd really love to go back!

It's been a while, and I am excited to not have to go in the summer
DeleteThat's a pretty impressive dent into your TBR list! I was not much in a reading mood last week. Sigh. Hopefully this week I can finish a book. But omg a surprise trip to Disney?!?! That is seriously the best surprise ever!!!
ReplyDeleteI need more discipline when it comes to my endless TBR ☺ I read to tolerate my commute, but have been really lucky with most of my books lately.
DeleteHow sweet of your daughter to plan a trip to Disney for you! That's gonna be so much fun, I'm sure! I'm gonna check out that fantasy link, thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is my reward for all my years of mom-ing. I am so excited
DeleteOooh, what a nice birthday surprise from your daughter! Girls Can't Hit sounds like my kinda book, honestly. Girl power to the max! I'm also really curious what you think of Hearts Unbroken when you get a chance to read it, because many of my favourite authors have been talking about how good it is on twitter.
ReplyDeleteGirls Can't Hit was fabulous . I am probably going to cave and buy Boy Can't Knit, because Girls was so fun and heartwarming
DeleteI still haven't read Playing Hurt by Kelly Jamieson. EEK!!! I've been so busy here lately that it's hard to keep up with all the books I need to read. This post was a lot of fun. I love all the info included into one post <3
ReplyDeleteI was happy with Playing Hurt. It was pretty low drama, and I thought the hero and heroine were great
DeleteYess I am so glad to see you enjoyed Tumbling! Ah, I can see how that would be quite the predicament when you have a holiday but then work the next day xD
ReplyDeleteI feel like I would have liked Tumbling even more if I had read it versus listening to it. Didn't realize how many characters were in the book, and it took me a while to get them straight.
