I don't know why I keep letting this happen, but I am sitting with a plethora of unread book, many of which are past due ARCs. As a way to motivate my reading, I thought I would join Summer TBR Wipeout, which is hosted by The Candid Cover.
This event will take place during the month of July, and my plan is read the rest of my July ARCs, start my August ARCs, and work in some of the May and June releases I missed.
Top 5 Reasons I Need to Participate in the Summer TBR Wipeout
- I currently have 36 unread ARCs, which I never got to before their release. #BadBlogger
- I need something to keep me focused on those older books, because I am constantly distracted by the new and shiny releases.
- My NetGalley feedback ratio is currently at 80%, and I would like to keep it there or see it climb higher.
- It's summer, and I always feel a little unmotivated in the summer.
- I want to have some realistic goals, so I have something to celebrate in August.
What I Will Read
I am setting my goal at 20 books, you know, so I have a little wiggle room.

Will you be participating in the Summer TBR Wipeout?

Good luck! Getting distracted with the new in shiny is my problem too.
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to forget about the other books, when a nice new release is being dangled in front of me. My weekly TBRs have helped a lot, but this is making me commit to a month, which is HUGE for me.
DeleteGood luck! Looks like a great TBR you have. Happy reading!!!
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good. I am absolutely adoring both my current reads, and one was almost 5-stars too.
DeleteIt is so easy to get distracted by all of the new and shiny books! Congrats on getting your ratio up to 80%. Good luck with the challenge!
ReplyDeleteMy ratio usually climbs as the year progresses, because there are less releases later in the year, and NG doesn't seem to have too many far in advance the way EW does.
DeleteI’ve been actively trying to clear up all the outstanding ARCs I have pending. My goal is actually to read/review *all* of them and then stop requesting altogether and just read my own books. I know I’ll probably request the rare one here and there from favorite authors but otherwise no. I just really, really want to read all the books on my shelves. You have some good ones on your TBR! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on The Impossibility of Us! :)
ReplyDeleteThe ARCs are one of the big perks for me as a blogger. With the volume of books I read, I would be so poor. Before I was blogging, I always read Kiersten's ARCs, and we got books at conventions. I know there are tons of bloggers, who don't really read any ARCs, though, and you have to do what works for you.
DeleteGood luck! I hope you enjoy the books.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
So far, only 1 "meh" book.
Delete20 books in a month!? EEEEP GOOD LUCK! I haven't read any of these yet, but I have so much need for The Other Side of Lost! I love Jessi Kirby. ♥♥
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
Between my audiobooks and "reading" books, I am always over 30 books a month. That long commute is good for something. YES! I am very excited about Kirby's new book. It looks wonderful.
DeleteGosh, I know what you mean! I am so behind right now and the minute I get a little caught up I end up adding more books! Good luck with your reading challenge. I'm interested in hearing what you think about Kate Meader's newest. :)
ReplyDeleteI won't request any books with release dates prior to October now, because I have so many. The end of the year is usually light on releases too. I loved Meader's last series, and am hopeful I like her new one too.
DeleteStay Sweet was amazing, so I hope you love it, Sam! I'm wishing you so much luck with your wipeout!!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely adoring Stay Sweet. I do tear up almost every time we have a Molly part, but it's a wonderful story.
DeleteGood luck, you have some great-looking books up there! I'm waiting for my library to get The Other Side of Lost, and Stay Sweet is another one I want to read this summer!
ReplyDeleteThe Other Side of Lost comes out in August. Do they let you sign up for the wait list ahead of time? That sometimes happens on the eLibrary site for my library. Stay Sweet is really great. I am kicking myself for letting it slip through the cracks earlier this year.
DeleteOh wow Sam you have work ahead of you! Now I totally understand is my TBR is one of the worsts! As you said all the new shiny toys (books). So good luck! Sophie @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteI am 7 books in so far, and I am finding a bunch of gems. TBRs have been a great way to make me focus. I don't normally plan more than a week at a time, so this challenge is really a challenge for me.
DeleteI used to teach and found the lack of structure during the summer had me wasting a lot of time. I am jealous of all your vacations. I hope you have an awesome and safe trip and you read some great books too.
ReplyDeleteOh wow!! You have quite a few books to read. I also need to read Playing Hurt. I hope we both enjoy it!! Good luck with all these <3
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Playing Hurt. It was lower drama and less emotional than the last book, but I like low drama and fun romances. These two were great together, and there was a little emotional stuff with the hero.
DeleteYay!!! I am so happy that you are joining us, Sam! I hope that you love Stay Sweet. It is a perfect book for your summer TBR. Good luck!! :)
ReplyDeleteI added your post to the linky. ;)
Stay Sweet was SO good. Loved it. Thanks for adding me to the linky.
DeleteGood luck with the challenge! Several of the books you chose are ones I've been considering reading so I look forward to seeing what you think of them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! So far, almost all the books have been great.
DeleteThat's a nice selection of books, Sam! 20 seems like an insurmountable target (for me) but seeing how many you read in a week, I'm sure you'll smash it!
ReplyDeleteBetween audio and books I can get a ton of books off my TBR. Long commutes are good for something
DeleteLooks like a nice mix of books - which is always good! Most of my ARCs are for future months, but there are still lots of books I'm trying to read/get through.

My ARC load decreases a lot come fall, but I have too many right now
DeleteI wish I knew about this challenge sooner. I totally would've joined in. Good luck with all of these. I have complete faith in ya <3
ReplyDeleteThere are a ton of short term challenges I miss every year, so I am excited to be able to participate
DeleteGood Luck!!! I completely understand the distraction by the latest book! I find myself wanting to put all the new books on hold as soon as they show up at my library. I'm trying to balance 1 new with 1 older but easier said than done! LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope the wipeout goes well for you! Heretics Anonymous is one I have had my eye on for a while and can't wait for reviews of it to start rolling in. I also have high hopes for Tumbling!
ReplyDeleteHeretics was interesting. I liked it. There were a few small things, which I know are particular rubs for me, but mostly, I felt the author was generally respectful in her dealings with the church, and offered different POVs, which I really appreciated. It had quite a strong ending too.
