Top Ten Anticipated Debuts of 2018!
Truth: This is not the actual topic this week, but I am doing the same topic during Top Ten of 2017 week, so I thought I fill in with this one. I like to make an effort to read a lot of debuts, and have discovered a ton of new and fantastic authors this way. So, without further ado, here are my top anticipated debuts for the upcoming year.
(More 2018 MG & YA debuts can be found here.)
First, there is the whole fashion designer wannabe angle. Then, there is the dual timeline approach, which I always love. The synopsis sort of eludes to a very empowering story too. I'm all in on this one.
A YA movie heartthrob + the teen author of the adaptation he is starring in. Now that's a pairing that piques my interest. Sounds fun and adorable and exactly like my kind of book.
Lindsay Champion
Series: n/a
Publisher: Kids Can Press
Release Date: April 3, 2018
I love this whole star-crossed lovers from different world vibe I am getting. There's lies, deceit, and a lot of secrets. Sounds delicious.
I do not believe I have read any YA tennis romances, and this one appears to feature a brooding boy and a slightly wounded girl. They also name drop Kasie West in the synopsis, so how could I NOT want to read this?
Samira Ahmed
Series: n/a
Publisher: Soho Teen
Release Date: Jan 16, 2018
I read a bunch of #OwnVoices coming of age stories this year, and I LOVED them all.
Aisha Sharma
Series: n/a
Publisher: Crown Books for Young Readers
Release Date: May 15, 2018
Winnie has to choose between a prophecy and a legit connection. Which way will she go? I know I want to know, and methinks I will have a lot of fun finding out.
Dana Mele
Series: n/a
Publisher: G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Release Date: Feb 27, 2018
I always like a good mystery, and this sounds like it could fit the bill. A scavenger hunt left by a dead girl sounds intriguing to me. "Because at Bates Academy, the truth is something you make...not something that happened."
Katie Henry
Series: n/a
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: August 7, 2018
"The Breakfast Club meets Saved!". Uh, yes, please! Take an atheist who befriends a girl aspiring to become a priest, mix in a group of misfits, and that sounds like a recipe for hilarity.
Fandoms and Cons! Count. Me. In. I have had such great success with fandom books, and this one seems to promise fun and feels. Sounds like a winner to me.
Farrah Penn
Series: n/a
Publisher: Jimmy Patterson
Release Date: March 13, 2018
I sense some grieving in this book, and everyone knows how much I love books about grief and loss. I also am drawn to the idea of the protagonist trying to reclaim her life. Sounds like a gut punch to me.
TWELVE STEPS TO NORMAL sounds like it might be an emotional book! Also, the cover for SOMEDAY, SOMEWHERE reminds me of A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by Claudia Gray.
ReplyDeleteDo You Dog-ear?
I agree about the cover for Someday, Somewhere. It look a little familiar when I saw it. Add it to the "deja vu cover" list.
DeleteGreat list and some that I hadn't heard of yet, so thanks for putting them on my radar! Love, Hate, and Other Filters is one that keeps catching my eye.
ReplyDeleteI regret sending the ARC to Noor, because now I really want to read it.
DeleteSo many of these sound so good! Love Scene, Take Two sounds adorable. Someday, Somewhere is a great big YES. I'm not Heretics Anon is one I'll pick up but thinking about the movie Saved! has me laughing. Loved that one. :) And Ship It has all the possibilities of being super fun. Love your picks, Sam!
ReplyDeleteYou know me and my extremes. Sad and heartbreaking or adorable and fluffy -- I don't do in-betweens. There are a multitude of books to be excited about. I have a TON of debuts on my list, plus favorite authors releasing new books, plus lots of sequels. I thought 2017 was a great year for books, but I feel like 2018 will be a banner year.
DeletePeople Like Us is the only one on my radar. Need to check the rest of these out!!!
ReplyDeletePeople Like Us is so high on my list. I keep trying to win it, but have failed so far. *sadness and tears*
DeleteI am highly anticipating SO MANY of the books on this list! Especially People Like Us, Heretics Anonymous (that cover is killing it lol), and Love, hate, and other filters. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT: https://bookslikewolves.wixsite.com/blog/single-post/2017/12/12/Blogmas-Day-12-Top-17-Books-of-2017
I love the cover for Heretics too! What was it, Mary on the piece of toast? Can't remember, but love the reference.
DeleteOoo lots of new ones to add to my TBR! Love Scene, Take Two and The Harper Effect both sound wonderful. Heretics Anonymous and People Like Us are also high on my wish list. Great list, Sam! :)
ReplyDeleteObviously, I want to get ALL the books, but I really, really hope I get to read Love Scene. It just sounds like the kind of book that will make me smile excessively.
DeleteThe Harper Effect looks great, and People Like Us is definitely on my list for 2018! Love the premise.
ReplyDeletePeople Like Us is a must read for me. In 2017, it was One of Us is Lying, and I am hoping People takes that slot for 2018.
DeleteI think these are all new to me, but there are so many pretty covers, I will have to give them a closer look!
ReplyDeleteI am a cover-ho, so it's pretty much the first thing I notice.
DeleteIt's great discovering new reads. Heretics Anonymous is new to me but one I'm going to have to pick up!
ReplyDeleteIf Heretics is half as funny as I am making it in my head, it's going to be great.
DeleteI think my most anticipated debuts are Children of Blood and Bone, Reign of The Fallen, The Exact Opposite of Okay & Everless.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2017/12/12/top-ten-tuesday-137/
I saw The Exact Opposite of Okay. It sounds heartbreaking in the best way.
DeleteI think my daughter would love The Harper Effect (she's a tennis player)! Great list!
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I sense that there may actually be some tennis talk in the book. I am a fan of the actual sport having a role in a sports romance, so I am hoping to see it happen in this book.
DeleteThat's a winner either way then!
DeleteSo many of these sound terrific! Sometimes I get a little stressed thinking about anticipated read because there are so many already out that I haven't read yet! I need Hermione's time-turner stat.
ReplyDeleteRebecca @ The Portsmouth Review
My hopes always exceed my actual reading, but it's good to have high hopes.
DeleteYes, so many fantastic new authors and books. I can't wait for Fat Girl on a Plane. Great list Sam.
ReplyDeleteFat Girl sounds so promising. I was just perusing the EE site, and they are so many amazing sounding debuts coming out. I was like a kid in a candy shoppe adding them all to my TBR.
DeleteI really really really want to read Love, Hate, and Other Filters. You're right, I'm seeing lots of #ownvoices books coming out next year, but where will I get all the money to buy them all? Great list!
ReplyDeleteI was really fortunate to get a lot of great #OwnVoices books last year, and I hope the book gods smile down on me again, because there are so many great offerings in 2018. Fingers crossed we each get to read some great ones.
DeleteSomeday, Somewhere sounds interesting- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt has NY/NJ, music, and the mixing of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. I'm intrigued.
DeleteMost of these are new to me. I have seen People Like Us around but haven't read any reviews yet.
ReplyDeletePeople Like Us is getting a lot of buzz. I tend to enjoy mysteries when I read them and this one has so many elements are are attractive to me.
DeleteHeretics Anonymous is one I am definitely excited for. I mean, I loved both of those movies, so of course! Love, Hate, and Other Filters looks great too. I am curious about Fat Girl on a Plane, but I am also a little hesitant, so you should probably read it and tell me about it ;) Hope these end up being great for you!
ReplyDeleteWhoever wrote the blurb for Heretics is a genius, because I had no need to read any further after dropping those two movie refs in there.
DeleteThese look great! These covers would almost make a lovely collage. Love Scene, Take Two looks great I have that on my reading list!
ReplyDeleteLove Scene appears to be my kind of book - adorbs and fun. Can't wait to read it.
DeleteI LOVE end of the year posts like this because I am always so behind on the new books coming out lol. I just added 5 of these to my Goodreads TBR!
ReplyDelete-Cristina @ Girl in the Pages
Happy some of these caught your eye. I am always on the lookout for debuts, and this year has an amazing sounding crop of books in it.
DeleteA lot of these are not on my TBR yet so thanks for posting about them. I'll have to go to Goodreads and fix that!
ReplyDeleteGlad I could share some new reads. I love to do that!
DeleteMy So-Called Bollywood Life sounds great! I haven't really got any debuts I'm excited about yet, but there are a lot of series follow ups coming out next year :-)

These are just the debuts I am eager to read. I am also anticipating a bunch of sequels and new books by authors I love.
DeleteI don't really keep up with debuts but Heretics Anonymous sounds so good and I really like the sound of it. Love, Hate and Other Filters sounds really good to me too. Hope you get round to reading all of these as well x
ReplyDeleteI only have Love, Hate, and Other Filters (well, it's in NC, just have to get it back), but I don't have any of the others. Hopefully I am able to get my hands on some of them, because I love reading debuts.
