Today's Top 10: Best Covers of 2017
Everyone knows I'm a cover-ho, so I love this topic, however, I am only going to pick from books I read and try not to repeat any from previous days. Here we go!
This cover made me stop in my tracks when I first saw it. I love the way the grey tones are mixed with pops of red, and it really does a good job of capturing the story too. The cover features Laylee in full mordeshoor dress, along with some other symbols relevant to the story. It also depicts the physical cold of the environment, while conveying the isolation Layee is experiencing. A great combination of aesthetics and symbolic meaning.
I found this cover to be quite pretty. What can I say? I love flowers. After reading the book, I realized how meaningful this cover was. There is a book that plays a huge role in Martin's life and I like that it is displayed so prominently on the cover, and that Martin is show reading too.
I know, you're thinking, this is just a bunch of pictures, and it is. However, this was one of my favorite reads this year, and the cover does such a good job capturing some of those "moments" from the book. It brings me back to the story and makes me feel some of those feels again, and I guess I really appreciate that.
Why do I love this cover? For the obvious reason, that it is beautiful. The colors, the font, and the imagery just all work for me. I will also say, that this gorgeous cover matches the lush writing housed within.
This cover made me think of summer and had this wonderful calming effect on me. The soft waves on the water combined with the sunset sky and the lazily dangling feet just set the perfect mood for me, and I think the book lived up to that summery, romantic mood the cover created for me.
This cover is so stunning, I can't even find the right words to express my love for it. The black background allows the flowers to burst forth from the cover, and the gold accents are just perfect. The magic in this book is tied to the gardens, so it makes sense, and once again, we have a book filled with beautiful prose. So, this one is gorgeous inside and out.
This book is about a girl, who is an artist, so I am not surprised that the cover is so lovely. I pretty much loved everything about this cover, and BONUS! There's art inside the book too.
At first glance, this cover is visually pleasing. Nice colors, good font placement, but after reading the book, and learning the significance of the cover art, it became more beautiful to me.
I love the use of a bright color with partial views of our protagonists. This "peek" at Elliot and Brandon gave me a great visual, and the font was reminiscent of some nerdy fandom out there, which was perfect for this book.
Cassandra Clare
Series: The Dark Artifices, #2
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's
The Shadowhunter books usually have great covers, and I am a huge fan of the TDA covers. I like the dark hues that are being used to create the mood, along with light and shadow. I think that is supposed to be Julian on the cover, and I am really into the strength that he is showing.
Now it's your turn!
What were some of your favorite covers of 2017?
Let us know in the comments!
Oh yes, Whichwood would have stopped me in my tracks too! Kids like us is gorgeous! It's like Wild beauty -- just beautiful and simple, and pretty!
ReplyDeleteBoth the the Furthermore books are stunning. Kids matches the sweetness of the story so well too, and if you put flowers on it, I will probably like it.
DeleteThese are some great covers! I especially love the ones with flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love florals. I had more with florals picked out, but I thought that would be overkill.
DeleteSo many gorgeous covers here, especially Whichwood and I'm always a sucker for floral covers.
ReplyDeleteI love flowers so much, I have one tattooed on my back. Seriously, Whichwood is fabulous. I actually have a physical copy of that one and it is even prettier in real life.
DeleteSo many gorgeous covers! Kids Like Us is simple but pretty. I love the cover design of Top Ten. Cotugno's covers all seem to have that kind of look (except for How to Love). Wild Beauty is simply gorgeous. And Eliza's cover is so fun.
ReplyDeleteI like Kids, because it evokes a lot of images from the story and just has the right feel for it too. I like the picture block thing that Cotugno does. She did it for 99 Days (sort of), Fireworks, and Top Ten. I like it the most for Top Ten, because of the scenes depicted and how well they connect to things that happened in the story.
DeleteOh I love Wicked Like a Wildfire and Wild Beauty are s gorgeous! Top Ten and Eliza are great too.
ReplyDeleteAll the florals are winners for me, and it was love at first sight when I saw Eliza.
DeleteThe cover of Whichwood is gorgeous. One of my favourites of this year as well. The colours are simply alluring.
ReplyDeleteTânia @MyLovelySecret
I know! The combination of colors is amazing. I adore that cover.
DeleteFirst of all: thanks for reminding me about Changes in Latitudes! I remember seeing it this summer, but I never marked it as to-read on goodreads. Anyhow, all these covers are stunning! Wild Beauty made my list as well; however, I'm always a sucker for flowers on a cover. I also love Wicked Like Wildfire's cover as well (the sequel is just as pretty even!). And Ready to Fall almost made my list too. I agree with your comment about the significance. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteChanges in Latitudes was good. I liked sailing the seas as the family healed. Wild Beauty is a tippy-top fave. The black background makes the flowers pop so well, and flowers.
DeleteI think Flame in the Mist is my favorite for the year. Whichwood has a beautiful cover as well.
ReplyDeleteFlame in the Mist is gorgeous, but I only included covers for books I read and didn't already feature on a another list. I sort of backed myself into a corner, but I want to feature books I really enjoyed.
DeleteOooohhhh, I forgot about Wicked Like a Wildfire! The cover is so gorgeous. I need to read the book. :O Great choices, Sam!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays. =)

I liked Wicked. I really enjoyed the parts that took me into Monte Negro. It sounds amazing there. The food descriptions were incredible too, and I was into the magic as well.
DeleteWhichwood is a definite YES!!! And Wild Beauty is really pretty too. I'll be making a list in favorite covers in a few days. :-)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Can't wait to see what you pick!
DeleteWicked Like a Wildfire and Whichwood would absolutely make my list, no question! And I agree about how well the covers fit for Changes in Latitude and Top Ten! Now I kind of want to do one of these myself, covers are so fun and pretty! Love your choices :)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge contemporary adult romance reader, and most of those covers are just naked torsos. Therefore, I really like looking at covers to see the connection to the story. I love making these lists, and the challenge of going through my read books to find new books to share with people is so much fun.
DeleteI've really liked the Shadowhunter covers, too, especially the more recent ones. :)
ReplyDeleteI know people was hard on the early TMI covers, but TDI and TDA have had incredible covers.
DeleteDefinitely some great covers here - I really like Eliza and Her Monsters (and I also need to read this one!)

Eliza was great, and I loved the story within the story (which had great artwork too).
DeleteWhichwood and Wild Beauty have gorgeous covers! But YA does have amazing covers, it so hard to pick just 1!
ReplyDeleteIf I opened my selection to books I have not read, I would have a list a million miles long. I read a ton of adult contemporary romances, and those covers can be somewhat predictable, but YA covers are more varied and I loved trying to find my faves.
DeleteGreat list! I also love the TDA covers and I can't wait for the next book.
ReplyDeleteTDA comes right behind TDI for me, but honestly, all Clare's covers are sort of beautiful.
DeleteKids like Us cover is absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI found it quite beautiful, and the simplicity of it matches the simple beauty of the story.
DeleteGreat covers! I love Wild Beauty!
ReplyDeleteI think that one is near the tippy-top of my list.
DeleteWild Beauty's cover is so gorgeous. The fact that the flowers are embossed...oh, it's just so lovely. I have Furthermore and its cover is so very pretty. Lovely picks!
ReplyDeleteI love flowers, but think the combination of colors with the black background was brilliant. I think the artwork for both Furthermore and Whichwood is fantastic. I am hoping we get a third book with a little jump ahead. Maybe we will get to see more of that fabulous art.
DeleteI love the cover of Whichwood. I always stop and look at it when I see it.
