Today's Top 10: Best Book Friendships
I had done a Top Ten Book Boyfriends not too long ago, and I also realized that many of my favorite book BFs were in the books I mentioned in my Best of 2017 post. Therefore, I made an executive decision and decided to talk about some of the best friendships I read about this year.
Emika's relationship with her team grew over the course of the book. They had to have a sort of bond, because that was the only way they could work effectively and survive the game. I would say they were solidly friends by the end of the book, and I am hoping to see a lot more of them in the forthcoming books.
Sarah J. Maas
Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3
Publisher: Bloomsbury Childrens
Rhysand's inner circle is total #SquadGoals. These are the kind of friends, who are your protectors and defenders. They would actually walk into the line of fire for you, but they will also make you face some difficult truths. I would love to be surrounded by this group.
A really special part of this book was the Hexagon, that's what Billie called her group of friends. They were an interesting and diverse group with a fabulous dynamic. I loved when all six interacted together, but I also liked when Billie interacted with the members one-on-one. "The year I was seventeen, I had five best friends - a pixie, a president, a pretender, a puker, and a douchebag - and I was in love with them all for different reasons."
Meg and Kat's friendship may have started out a little shaky, as Meg just sort of inserted herself into Kat's life, but it grew to be really special. They would do little things, that showed how they understood each other's needs, and Kat did something really major for Meg, which almost made me cry. OK, maybe I shed a few tears. It was very endearing.
Lottie was blessed with a very special friend, Em. This girl was involved in so many things, but would still come at a moment's notice if Lottie needed her. Em was just overflowing with love. Em was such a beautiful, bubbly spirit, I wanted to reach into that book and give her a huge hug.
Elle was not blessed with a fantastic family, but she was lucky to have someone in her corner - Sage. She was fantastic! What a great analog to the fairy godmother. She was an empowered young woman, who just worried about being herself. She was also snarky, hilarious, and a steadfast friend.
I was such a fan of the Sharpshooters. We got to share so many bromantic moments with them, and I was really impressed with how supportive and caring they were. It was through their friendship, that Jordan grew and worked through her identity issues.
Both Juliet and Declan were fortunate to have such wonderful friends. Rowan was always there to pick her friend up and hold her up if necessary. And Declan had Rev. Rev was such a positive influence for Declan, and him and his family provided a nurturing environment for Declan.
A very important person is Tom's life was Ed. The bromance between this two was one for the ages. From their "meet cute" to how Ed was just always just a phone call away, this was a friendship which all people should strive for.
This one is probably the most tragic. We actually only get to know the "Sauce Crew" through flashbacks, but what we learn shows what an amazing friendship they shared. I thought it was a privilege to share their goodbye days.
Now it's your turn!
What are some of your favorite 2017 book friendships?
Let us know in the comments!
Rhy's inner circle is total #squadgoals! Friends that are more like family. They give each other a hard time, know when to push, when to back off, and always, always have each other's backs. Such an amazing group. And I loved the friendships in Letters to the Lost, particularly Declan and Rev. I'm so excited to get Rev's story next year.
ReplyDeleteExactly. They were definitely like family. Those men were brothers and they all fiercely protected each other. I don't know how I will resist reading Rev's book. I will probably cave and read it next week. =)
DeleteLetters to the Lost really had great friendships. I loved Rev and his family.
ReplyDeleteRev's family was so beautiful. The love they showed to Rev and Declan just melted my heart.
DeleteOh a lot of great ones here! Dress Codes had such a great group of friends. Everything All At Once, Goodbye Days and Noteworthy all had such great friendships featured.
ReplyDeleteThe hexagon was incredible and I loved Dress Codes so much. It was really hard to narrow down my list (that happened every day this week), but these were some standouts.
DeleteI don't know the friendship yet in Maas' ACoTaR series, but I will shortly! Just got all three and I am stoked!

The crew is formally introduced in ACOMAF (which is ah-mazing!). I so want to be part of that squad.
DeleteGreat topic! I love when a book has a great friendship. I can't wait to read Letters to the Lost it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteLetters to the Lost was so wonderful! I can only sing its praises, and I can't wait to read the companion novel!!!
DeleteI loved Emika's team in Warcross! Definitely anxious for that sequel.
ReplyDeleteRight! The ending, ugh!!!!! I hope Lu is writing as fast as she can, because I need some answers.
DeleteGoodbye Days and Warcross are both on my list. I am so glad to see you loved them both. Thanks for sharing all these recs!
ReplyDeleteI love bromances and Zentner gave us a great one with the Sauce Crew. I am really hoping to have a lot of more Emika's team in the next book, because they were really gelling as a group towards the end.
DeleteI can't believe I forgot about Rhysand. I loved his court. This is a great list!
ReplyDeleteRhys' crew was one of the best! I didn't included them, but Kaz's crew from SoC is on par with Rhys' group.
DeleteI think you made a great executive decision---this topic isn't nearly as common. Love that you included Goodbye Days---that book exemplifies friendship!

Goodbye Days 😭 The Sauce Crew was quite special, and you could tell how much Carver loved them when you saw the goodbye days he gave to each of them.
DeleteI loved the friendships in Warcross too. A couple of these are still on my TBR so knowing they feature great friendships is a great motivator for me since I adore friendship books. :)
ReplyDeleteRomance is my topmost favorite thing in a book, but friendships and families are second. If I really like a character, I like to know that there are people there to support them and care for them.
DeleteWarcross and Geekerella have some great friendships! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteSage was The Best, and even the step-grandmother was fabulous too. Everybody needs someone in their corner.
DeleteI have only read one book that made your list. I really enjoyed Goodbye Days and thought the characters were very well done. I just bought Warcross and am looking forward to meeting those characters soon.
ReplyDeleteZentner is a fave. I loved both his book and am very excited about the third. I am sort of sad it won't be out until 2019, but I am sure it will be ah-mazing when we read it. Yay! I think if you are a Marie Lu fan, you will absolutely love the book. The complaints I have heard are from people who generally have issues with her style. I love her!
DeleteI really need to read Goodbye Days. I LOVED the author’s other book.
