How do you let go of something you’ve never had?Why I Can't Wait
Junior year for Brooke Winters is supposed to be about change. She’s transferring schools, starting fresh, and making plans for college so she can finally leave her hometown, her family, and her past behind.
But all of her dreams are shattered one hot summer afternoon when her mother is arrested for killing Brooke’s abusive father. No one really knows what happened that day, if it was premeditated or self-defense, whether it was right or wrong. And now Brooke and her siblings are on their own.
In a year of firsts—the first year without parents, first love, first heartbreak, and her first taste of freedom—Brooke must confront the shadow of her family’s violence and dysfunction, as she struggles to embrace her identity, finds her true place in the world, and learns how to let go.
It's that last part, where it talks about "a year of firsts" that had me hook, line, and sinker. The book SCREAMS about loss and suffering to me, and I love that stuff. But, I also sense that this will be a sort of survival story, a story of resilience, and a journey of self-discovery. I have to admit, I sort of already care about Brooke, although I have yet to meet her. If the synopsis is able to make me care, I can only imagine that this book will worm its way in and break my heart.
What are you waiting on?
Let us know in the comments!
This one sounds really good! You are right, that last part is something. It's definitely going to be a summer of first! Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Happy reading 💋 xoxo
ReplyDeleteI am a sap for these self discovery type books. I like being part of a journey like that.
DeleteHow do you manage to find the stories that I just know will rip my heart out and stomp all over it, and I'll be okay with that? :)
ReplyDeleteBecause I am a glutton for punishment! I have a headache right now, due to all the crying I am doing over my current read. Like I said, glutton for punishment.
DeleteThis one sounds really heartwrenching - I hope you enjoy it! My offering this week is a quirky-sounding children's fantasy...
ReplyDeleteI love books that make me feel things. For some reason, I gravitate towards pain and loss.
DeleteI almost picked the same book this week for the reasons you mentioned. I have a feeling that I'm going to be reading a lot of heart-wrenching books in 2018, haha.
ReplyDeleteI hope we do read a lot of the same books, so we can compare notes.
DeleteI featured this on one of my WoWs a few weeks back and I still can't wait to read it! It does sound like it'll be hearwrenching but sometimes you just need those kind of books. Plus I love the year of firsts idea!
ReplyDeleteThe year of first sounds amazing. I have a TBR with over 300 2018 releases, so I try to spread the love to all my potential reads.
DeleteI haven't heard of this book before, but I enjoyed the premise very much. It does scream heart-break - and I'm sure it will rip my heart -, but I must add it to my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)

Early feedback has been good, and the premise just spoke to me. I hope one of us reads it. =)
DeleteI doubt this is one I'll pick up but I do like the cover. Hope you love it when you finally get to it!
ReplyDeleteThe cover is quite nice. The whole concept of the ball that is sort of unraveling has me reading a lot into the synopsis too.
DeleteThis sounds really intense, heart-breaking but with maybe a sense of hope. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI require a side of hope with my heartbreak, so here's hoping it goes my way.
DeleteOh this sounds good! I had heard good things about her debut too!
ReplyDeleteI had wanted to read the debut too, and it has great reviews. So I do have high hopes.
DeleteThis one sounds like it is a heart-tugger. Great pick I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI keep reading this books even though I know they will induce tears.
DeleteI love that cover and it sounds like a very emotional read! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Wednesday Post
If I read all the books on my TBR, I will run out of tears.
DeleteOh my gosh, I can't wait for this! I loved the author's previous book so I know this one is going to be amazing, too!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read her first book too. It has great reviews and sounds really great.

I have been wanting to read this author and this sounds really great.
DeleteI'll definitely be picking this one up. I read The Way I Used to Be on audio last year and it was so incredibly powerful. I find myself still thinking about the main character.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I am so glad you told me that. It definitely makes me want this even more.
DeleteI am excited about this book as well. It seems as though it is going to be a heart wrenching story. I hope that we both love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI say - wrench my heart, Amber Smith! I am ready for it. =)
DeleteNeat! This one is new to me. It definitely sounds like something you would like. :D I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, Sam. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
It sort of screams "Sam!". It has all those elements that I tend to adore.
DeleteGREAT pick, Sam!! I would normally not read this type of book, but I'm with you on all those "firsts". Besides, the plot has a definite psychological angle, and I LOVE books with mental health issues in them! Last but not least, I can definitely relate to the idea of resilience and surviving abuse, from my own personal experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting this book on my radar! Thanks as well for dropping by and commenting on my CWW post!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I like books that address mental health issues if they do it right. I like when I get an honest angle and one that sheds light on the issue.
DeleteThat really is one heck of a blurb! I love stories about bouncing back and self discovery.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Self discovery stories definitely rank high for me. I always love to see people moving in a positive direction.
DeleteOoh, this sounds really good! Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really good, Sam! I hope you love it :)

I was very interested in Smith's debut, but never got to it. I hope to actually read this one, and then try for the backlist.
