Characters with Leadership Potential!
Since today is election day, this top ten list will highlight characters from books I read mostly within the past year, who I think could possibly grow into great leaders.
Beatrice was such an empowered woman, with a strong voice, who used her wit and her will to make things happen. There were many times in this book, when she had to wiggle out of some tight spots, and that is a great skill for a leader to have.
Dara had an Olympic dream, that was cut short when she lost her arm due to a shark attack. She channeled her loss into training another swimmer. This desire to build up other people, coupled with her tough, no nonsense attitude made me see her as a potential leader.
Genie Lo is super smart, super driven and a warrior to boot. If that doesn't scream leadership material to you, she also can think quick on her feet and keep her cool under very intense situations.
Angelica is intelligent and a fact gatherer. She doesn't just jump to conclusions, but rather collects information in order to make informed decisions. She can also be very persuasive, which is a skill every leader needs.
Let's be honest, he was a leader, but I couldn't resist including Day. When you have the ability raise a rebellion, you know you are a leader. Day also made many sacrifices for the good of others, and that to me is the mark of a true leader.
Madi was able to build a legion of followers, and every good leader needs their supporters. There were many times Madi took the high road, and did not respond to trolls, and being able to maintain one's composure in situations like that is an important skill for a leader to have.

Not only did Harper take lemons and make lemonade, she started a movement, and this was a positive movement. A leader can stir the feelings of people and harness those emotions to do good, just like Harper did.
Dimple was a force to be reckoned with and I think her conviction is something that would allow her to be a successful leader. I also think Rishi could be a great leader, because he understood compromise and had excellent interpersonal skills and solid values.

Alosa possessed a litany of skills useful for a leader. She was strong, physically and mentally. She would be able to hold fast to her beliefs and use her power of persuasion to convince others to support her cause. She is also fierce in battle, and historically, many warriors have become great leaders.
Lainey consulted the Art of War in order to win her boyfriend back. I think she would be able to apply her tactical mind to any leadership position and have great success.
I have only read Internet Famous, which I already forgot most of the book, and Legend. I truly agree with Day, he's such a great leader. He and June together is the definition of power couple :D
ReplyDeleteTasya // The Literary Huntress
June definitely grew into the role and became the perfect counterpart for Day.
DeleteI could totally see Dimple going on to become a leader... particularly if Rishi was by her side to help keep her more level-headed. :)
ReplyDeleteThey would be quite the power couple. And yes, Rishi knows how to harness her passion.
DeleteOh yeah Day is the perfect candidate for his list! I thought of Legend in general when I saw the topic. I really need to read Speak Easy, Speak Love.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Have a fantastic week, Sam. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Legend always creeps up on my lists, because I love that series so much. Speak Easy was really, really good. I have nothing but good things to say about it.
DeleteI think both Dimple and Rishi would make great leaders, like you said! They would just lead in different ways.

I think they each bring something great to the table, and as a team, they would be unstoppable.
DeleteDimple is such a great pick!! I still have to read a lot of the other books up there. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI am a Dimple fan. I liked how she grew and learned how to compromise over the course of the book. I feel like she would have a lot to offer as a leader.
DeleteTotally agree with Alosa - she was only a teenager but already captain of her own ship! I can definitely see her leading a much bigger crew!
ReplyDeleteAlosa was such a fabulous heroine, probably one of my fave heroines this year.
DeleteThere's so many books on your list that I still need to read like Legend and The Art of Lainey! like you I also adored Dimple, I agree she would make a great leader! Fantastic list Sam!
ReplyDeleteLegend is one of my favorite series, and that is saying a lot, because I am not a huge SFF reader. Right! Dimple would be great.
DeleteAlosa is amazing. I want the sequel right now!
ReplyDeleteAshley @ Caught Reading Redheaded
I keep seeing people taking about the Siren Queen book, and I cry a little, because I need more Alosa in my life.
DeleteThe Legend seres is on my TBR- gotta get to those!!- and Daughter of the Pirate Queen as well. Looks super fun.
ReplyDeleteLegend is such an incredible series. I highly recommend it. Pirate King was one of my top 2017 reads. I loved it so much, I even gave a copy away.
DeleteI could definitely see Dimple becoming a great leader! And I hope to read The Epic Crush of Genie Lo and Daughter of the Pirate King soon.
ReplyDeleteGenie Lo and Pirate King were both fabulous-five-star reads for me. I enjoyed every second of both books. They had lots of adventure, action, and they were witty.
DeleteOOoh nice picks! Lots of new to me ones! I still need to read Daughter of the Pirate King! Though I loved Legend!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Pirate King was so good. You should check it out.
DeleteI found Genie Lo to be a fun read. I loved the banter and the mythology a lot. I feel like the ending could lead to more adventures and hope Yee considers it.

DeleteThe only character I know from this list is Day! He's so amazing
ReplyDeleteDay and June are one of my favorite power couples.
DeleteSince the only one of these I've read was Holding Up the Universe, I can't comment on your choices much, but I think you have great reasons for all of them!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I like to use books I have read for TTT, and I read a LOT of contemporaries.
DeleteI'm looking forward to reading some of these books soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteThere are some of my faves on this list

ReplyDeleteI really hope Yee will write more Genie LO books
DeleteI heard that there is a sequel coming next year! :)
DeleteNO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Lauren, this is very exciting news. Whoo hoo!!
DeleteI love that Dimple and Harper made your list. I didn't think of those when I was making up my list, but they are perfect choices.
ReplyDeleteI always love a feisty female and they were standouts for me.
DeleteGreat list! I have only read Internet Famous and I agree Madi was able to reach and connect with so many people online that is a great quality!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Madi, and she did a great job building her following.
DeleteFun list! I haven't read any of these books...so much work to do :)
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by how many popular books made my list, because I usually have less well known books. There are some great ones up there though, which you might enjoy.
DeleteDay and Alosa are total leadership potential!!!
ReplyDeleteThose two were no-brainers for me.
DeleteI highly enjoyed the format and layout of this post. It was easy to read and practical! The books really high on my TBR from your list are Legend, Speak Easy Speak Love (you got me even more interested in it), and The Epic Crush of Genie Lo. Alosa is one of my favorite characters ever.
ReplyDeleteI was on hiatus for the entire month of November when I was supposed to write about this fantastic topic on leaders, so I missed it. But I ended up writing it anyway with my own twist and posting it on the blog weeks later. I couldn’t pass the opportunity!
My topic is Leaders of a Bank Robbery Operation, LOL. <3
Here’s my belated TTT! https://bookslikewolves.wixsite.com/blog/single-post/2017/12/09/Blogmas-Day-9-Characters-Who-Would-Make-Great-Leaders-of-a-Bank-Robbery-Operation
When I am not feeling a particular TTT topic, I will do something else. It's all good. I just want to fangirl about books I love, and Legend, Speak Easy, and Genie Lo were all fabulous! I hope you get to them someday. Alosa is incredible. I keep trying to win the new book (I actually won the first one from GR and got an eARC), because I want to read her new adventures NOW!
