This week's theme: A book from my holiday wishlist
Jenn Bennett
Series: n/a
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Goodreads
Beatrix Adams knows exactly how she’s spending the summer before her senior year. Determined to follow in Da Vinci’s footsteps, she’s ready to tackle the one thing that will give her an advantage in a museum-sponsored scholarship contest: drawing actual cadavers. But when she tries to sneak her way into the hospital’s Willed Body program and misses the last metro train home, she meets a boy who turns her summer plans upside down.I fell in love with Bennett's writing after reading Alex, Approximately, which was a solid 5-star read for me and earned a place on my favorites shelf. I now want to read her backlist, and hope to start with this book, because I have heard so many bloggers rave about it.
Jack is charming, wildly attractive, and possibly one of San Francisco’s most notorious graffiti artists. On midnight buses and city rooftops, Beatrix begins to see who Jack really is—and tries to uncover what he’s hiding that leaves him so wounded. But will these secrets come back to haunt him? Or will the skeletons in her family’s closet tear them apart?
US Cover
Now, let's travel! I found five other covers, in addition to the US cover pictured above, and also found that the book had been translated into 5 additional languages.
UK |
German |
Spanish |
Polish |
Portuguese |
My favorite cover is from the Portuguese edition. I like the lettering and the actual anatomical heart that graces the cover. The yellow also contrasts well with the black, and makes the title stand out well.
My least favorite cover is from the German edition. It doesn't make my eyes bleed or anything like that, it's just really generic. The color scheme seems random and so do the graphics.
What do you think of these covers?
Let us know in the comments!
What a fun meme! I really like the US cover. Not a fan of the Polish or German covers. Great book too :)
ReplyDeleteI really, really want to read this book. It was fun finding the alternate covers
DeleteI still need to read this one! I remember always preferring Night Owls and the British cover over the U.S. cover/title. I still feel the same, but yeah, I agree about Germany's cover not being great.

I keep hearing how good this book it, so it may have to be a gift I give myself.
DeleteGreat post idea! I love the US Cover. I am also drawn to the Spanish and UK, which seem similar.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure the only difference between the UK and Spanish covers is the language for the blurb. I am curious about the name change though. Maybe I will understand when I finally read the book.
DeleteI like the US cover the most but maybe because that is the one familiar to me. I am not a fan of the German edition at all. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI hope they didn't pay the designer much for the German cover. Definitely my least fave.
DeleteI've yet to read anything by Bennett but that will be changing SOON since I added Alex to my winter TBR. I like the UK/Spanish cover. Something about the font and the bus (is that a bus?) just appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteI loved Alex sooooooo much! It was exactly the type of book I love (even if there was no grieving). I do believe that is a bus on the UK/Spanish cover. I am intrigued by the name change and the choice of graphic. I liked when I read a book and figure out how the cover ties in to the story.
DeleteI love your choice of book here! I have read and loved this one so much, I want to read Alex, Approximately so badly now ahah :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'll have to agree with you cover choices, I love the typography for the Portuguese cover, but I'm not a fan of the German cover overall.
Hope you'll read this book soon and love it xx
I still have a little bit on a B&N gift card, so I think I am going to get this one for myself. I have no idea why my loved ones never give me things like Kindles and Amazon gift cards, when they know how much of my money goes there.
DeleteThe only book I know on this list is Night Owls, but I haven't heard all that much about it. I hope you get your hands on them all!
ReplyDeleteThey are all Night Owls, just different covers. I don't know why there was a name change for the American version, but hope to figure out the connection between both names when I read it.
DeleteYou should definitely read this it was a great read and made me love Jenn Bennett, it's the reason I knew I had to read Alex, Approximately. I actually prefer the UK cover and the title of Night Owls, but I am a little biased because that's the first cover I saw. I didn't even know the two were the same book until a little while later! I'm sure I read a thing about why there was a name change, something about it not translating as well to a UK audience. Night Owls is easier to remember and type is all I know.
ReplyDeleteI know I need to read this! My biggest obstacle to reading books is having access to them. If I have an ebook or can get it from Hoopla or Overdrive, I will usually read it. Less likely to read a physical book, but if it's high on my list, I might cave one weekend. Interesting input from a UK reader. Thank you. I was curious. I also want to know, which one fits the story better, but I will have to read that to decide.
DeleteWhoa!! I didn't realize there were so many covers out!! I think my favorite would have to be the US one. I haven't read anything by this author just yet but Alex, Approximately is on my list <3 Great post!
ReplyDeleteAlex was SOOOOOOOO good, that I vowed to read whatever Bennett writes or has written. I fell in love with her writing and I can't wait to read more.
