Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday and Welcome December! I cannot believe the end of the year is here. I feel like the older I get, the quicker time passes. It is definitely starting to feel a bit like early winter with ok temperatures during the day (40s) and freezing to below freezing at night.

Holiday and days off always make the week feel weird for me. My daughter got his Monday night. I worked Tuesday but was off the rest of the week. I have to admit, I really didn't do much with my time off. Thursday, we headed to south Jersey for Thanksgiving at my sister's new home. It was my first time there, so it was nice to see it. We had good food and no drama which is always a plus. We didn't even hit traffic on the Garden State which was some sort of miracle.

Friday, my daughter and mother went to see Wicked. I just cannot sit that long in the dark without falling asleep, so I met them after for dinner. Saturday, I ran to the mall and was happy to find it at normal volumes. I was a little worried though the holiday weekend doesn't seem to draw the shopping crowds they once did.

Next week, we are implementing a major change at work which impact every role on our team. Of course the meeting about it is on Wednesday though we start on Monday. I have the easier part of it, so I am just hoping it all goes smoothly for my counterpart doing handling the part with the more major changes. It's all internal, so if we make a mess, no biggie, but I would rather it be done properly the first time, you know?

Stacking the Shelves

It's a slow time for approvals, but that' ok because there were some books I wanted on sale. My daughter is a re-reader and wanted a copy of Hart and Mercy, so I told her to buy it. I loved my first Kristan Harmel so much, I wanted to get her debut, and Henn's book sounds like something I will love.

Read Last Week

I was really happy with all the older books I tackled. It was a week without an ARC which is weird but it's slow towards the end of the year, so I can do it. My favorite book was the latest by Sage, Lost and Lassoed. I am going to be so sad when this series ends because I really adore this world.

Currently Reading

Yes, I am still listening to Games Untold. With the holiday and my daughter visiting, I just do not get a lot of time for listening to audiobooks. I am worried I will have to return this book without finishing it which happened with another audiobook recently. Note to self - pick shorter books.

Temple of Swoon is delightful so far. I really loved the first book in this series and am happy the follow up is equally as wonderful.

  1. I hope the change at work will go smoothly Sam! And I had to laugh a little when you said that you fall asleep watching movies LOL. Also Alvin the poney is so cute!

    1. I always fall asleep at the movies. It's one reason why I stopped going.

  2. I hope you're enjoying your time off! The kid being there is such good timing.

It makes perfect sense LOL. I hope everything will go smoothly!

VERY weird! though you're right, December is pretty much a dead month when it comes to ARCs.

    That pony is beyond cute.

    1. I DID click some widgets I had in my email box, but no new ARCs (really). My daughter always comes home in November and December for the holidays. I try to get off, but I am not always lucky. This was my lucky year.

  3. I'm glad there was no drama. There was none here either which I'm surprised about.

  4. So nice when there's no drama at a family gathering! I loved The Banned Books Club so happy to see you enjoyed it. I have Lost and Lassoed and I hope to get to it soon. I didn't realize Loch & Key released this Tuesday! I need to get to it! Hope you enjoy the rest of your time with your daughter!

  6. LOL we had some drama at Henry's birthday party this weekend, but hopefully it will not affect Christmas! We tried to go to the mall last week, not even Thanksgiving week yet, and it was packed, and then this weekend I had to drive past the mall to get to the library and it was just insanity. So, I guess people are still shopping in stores!

    1. I hate family drama. I find it's easier to avoid with smaller gatherings. I guess people in my neighborhood are not mall people, and I went to Menlo which is more popular than Woodbridge.

  7. I can't believe it's already December either! I don't know if it's a getting older thing but I've felt that way about the last few years at least. They pass too quickly and I don't know where the days go! I hope December treats you and the family well :) I've got to get to Sage's series—I haven't read it yet but it's so popular and well loved, I'm excited to check it out. Have a great week ahead, Sam!
