Five Star Friday is my version of the monthly wrap-up. On the first Friday of each month, I will share my five-star reads from the previous month. Fingers crossed, I have lots of books to tell you about.
This month, I was able to read 24 books, and I had 1 five-star read.
Is She Really Going Out with Him by Sophie Cousens
Published by G.P. Putnam's Sons on November 19, 2024
Age/Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Goodreads
A hilarious love story about a disillusioned divorcée who agrees to let her children play matchmaker.
Columnist Anna Appleby has left her love life behind after a painful divorce. Who needs a man when she has two kids, a cat, and uncontested control of the TV remote? Besides, she’d rather be single than subject herself to the hell of online dating. But her office rival is vying for her column, and no column means no stable source of income. In a desperate attempt to keep her job, Anna finds herself pitching a unique angle: seven dates, all found offline, chosen by her children.
From awkward encounters to unexpected connections, Anna gamely begins to put herself out there, asking out waiters, the mailman, and even her celebrity crush. But when a romantic connection appears where she least expected it, will she be brave enough to take another chance on love?
This was a such a great rom-com! I enjoy so many laugh out loud moments as Anna re-entered the dating pool, but this was also a story with some depth. The dates were fun, but also a way for Anna to rediscover herself outside of her marriage. She reclaimed many pieces she had abandoned when she was a wife and mother. I feel like everyone involved grew in some way, and I was happy with the way everything worked out for all parties involved.

24 books with only 1 five-star rating would sound rough, but you had 8 "almost-there" books, so not bad! This one sounds like a fun take on the back-to-dating trope, with some surprises...
ReplyDeleteIt's low for me, but still a lot of good reading. Cousens books get better and better with each release. I am a solid fan now.
DeleteWell after reading your review the other week I have now read another very positive review on bookstagram so I am convinced!
ReplyDeleteCousens' book was so good! I am glad to hear others are enjoying it as well.
DeleteYou read a lot of books in November! I need to get to Lost and Lassoed soon!
ReplyDeleteMy reading was actually down. I usually am usually closer to 30 books, but I have been reading really slow lately. Lost and Lassoed was great, and that is one of my least favorite tropes.
DeleteSo looking forward to the new Sophie Cousens - she always delivers!
ReplyDeleteI think she became an auto-read for me with her second book, and this is the best one yet.
DeleteI'm hoping to fit the Cousens book in around some of my holiday romances. After seeing your 5 star review, I'm even more determined to make it happen.
ReplyDeleteYou have to read it. It was wonderful!
