Top Ten Tuesday - Book Report Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Book Report Books!

Happy Tuesday! Today we are talking about books we read for school. I have done required reading several times, so I thought I would switch it up a bit. I was thinking about books I read back in the mid 70s and early 80s that were sort of "guided choices" for school assignments. These were the book report books. Back in the day, I wrote quite a few book reports, and below are some of the books I reported on.

  1. Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl
  2. The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes
  3. Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink
  4. The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene
  5. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

What books did you read for school?

  1. Nancy Drew! I loved those as a kid. My grandma had actually kept a few of my aunts' books from childhood and would break them out for my sister and me when we came to visit.

    1. I became a Nancy Drew fan when one of my classmates turned me on to her books. I think they still hold up.

  2. I remember all but two of these! And I read several of them. Any Judy Blume book was always a must-read for me. She was very much a defining force in my childhood.

    1. Judy Blue and Beverly Cleary were two I read a LOT from.

  3. It's cool that you got to pick your own book report books! I only remember doing that three times. I read Island Of The Blue Dolphins, Harry Potter, and a random book about chimpanzees for elementary school book reports.

    1. I think we had a pool to pick from, but I suppose my teacher didn't want to read 40 reports about the same book. I read O'Dell back in the day as well. It's nice to see the kids are still reading those books. HP didn't exist when I was a kid. LOL!

  4. What a nostalgic list! I remember reading almost all of these back in the day. A WRINKLE IN TIME is on my list today too.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Maybe we are close in age or just have great taste in books.

  5. Gary Paulson's Hatchet and of course Harry Potter were big reads when I was in school!

  6. I think A Wrinkle in Time is the only one of these that I've read, but I have a few of the others on my shelves.

  7. I love your take on this weeks TTT! I wish I wrote down and saved all the books I read as a kid. There's one I remember that was suspenseful and spooky that I wish I could re-read! I kind of remember the cover, too.

    1. I definitely don't remember them all, especially my teen years when I was reading a ton of teen romances, but some stood out from grade school.

  8. That's so funny to see how covers evolved!

    1. I tried to find the covers that I remember because many of these books have so many editions.
