Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone had a fantastic week. I am still trying to catch up from my trip. Those last few reviews will be the death of me. It wasn't too bad getting back into my routine. The week was pretty much status quo, work every day. I got a top performer award at the Recognition Rally which I was not expecting. That was nice. I brought my car for service on Friday. I always go to the dealership so there are no problems with the warranty, but $106 for an oil change is steep. That's up about $30 from last year, AND my dealership cut Saturday hours which really stinks. Saturday, we went out to dinner for my birthday, and tomorrow, we are seeing our first show of the season at Paper Mill - Jersey Boys. I have never seen that show, but I am sure it will be a good time. I love the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

Stacking the Shelves

Not too many books this week. I did nab The Undermining of Twyla and Frank on sale. I am excited to return to that world. Holiday Hideaway was Read Now, so I downloaded because Mary Kay Andrews' holiday books are always wonderful.

Read Last Week

I was happy with my reading this week. It had been a bit off, but last things seemed to be back to normal. Erin Hahn's Catch and Keep was my top read. I was very happy that it rated high as expected. It was such a warm and lovely story.

The author's note for Boone noted how this book destroyed her. I knew it was a sad one, but I sense it's going to result in a lot of tears.

I hate so many people in this Now That You Mention It and how cruel they were. I am glad that mom redeemed herself a bit.

  1. Happy Birthday. That is a lot for an oil change.

    1. Thank you, Mary! Yes, the synthetic oil is really expensive.

  2. It can be so hard coming back from vacation, so I'm glad the transition back into your routine wasn't too bad. Everything with cars costs way too much! Happy birthday!!

    1. Can you imagine if I had to do any actual work on my car? Thank you!

  3. Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Sam! I always enjoy Kate Meader but I didn't recognize it with a different sort of cover than I'm used to with her books.

    1. Yes, Meader redid the covers and went with the ever so popular illustrated cover. I am ok with them.

  4. Congrats on the recognition at work! Well deserved, I am sure. I've heard good things about Jersey Boys. Boone was one of my top favorites in the series. I sobbed (a lot) but it also had so many touching and heartfelt moments. I loved the three main characters in that one.

    1. OMG! I cried and sobbed and my make up ran. It was terrible! So many touching moments. I might cry now.

    2. Yes! It was truly brutal. I kept thinking, Sawyer won't do it, Sawyer won't do it... and then, of course, she did it. *wails loudly*

    3. Yeah, I hoped as well, but that author's forward pretty much foreshadowed it.

  5. Happy Belated Birthday, Sam. I hate how much it costs to service your car these days, but you have no choice when you need it. I love that chicken video, it's so cute. I have never seen The Jersey Boys either, but I want to. Did you love it? I am also looking forward to the MKA Christmas novella. I hope you are having a good week.

    1. Isn't that chicken with the confidence boots the sweetest thing? I loved it. I enjoyed Jersey Boys. I never would have thought that Frankie Valli ran around with guys like that. They were actual criminals, though he was closest with the song writer. AND who would have guessed that all the Four Seasons hits were written by the same guy who wrote "Short Shorts".

  6. Happy birthday Sam!! I had to get my oil changed last week too. It was like $150. Everything is crazy expensive.
