This week's topic was inspired by those crazy Crayola crayon colors. When I was checking out some of those names, my mind wandered to the names given to various cosmetics. In addition to some slick packaging, many of my favorites brands have witty and fun names.
Brands like Nars, Urban Decay, bare Minerals, Smashbox, and Milk Makeup have colors with names such as You Had Me at Merlot, Thrill Seeker, Wild One, Werk, and Never Say Never. I love that they are selling me on an idea and not simply stating the color. When I was scanning my read shelf, I saw some titles I imagined could be used for some hip and trendy lipstick.
- Sunkissed by Kasie West
- Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau
- New Year's Kiss by Lee Matthews
- Girl Defective by Simmone Howell
- Going Rogue by Robin Benway
- Loner by Georgina Young
- Jersey Tomatoes are the Best by Maria Padian
- Be Dazzled by Ryan La Sala
- Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant
- Breathless by Jennifer Niven
What are the craziest color names you've heard?

Fun twist! Sunkissed would be great for any type of makeup!
ReplyDeleteThere is probably a bronzer out there right now with such a name
DeleteOh hello, these are some perfect names for a lipstick! I would totally wear Going Rouge!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun and sassy shade to me
DeleteI want a Be Dazzled lipstick, please! Fun take on the topic, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI imagine some shimmer or diamond dust in there.
DeleteJersey Tomatoes Are the Best would be a great shade of red for sure LOL. Then again, You Had Me at Merlot... 😂
ReplyDeleteI swear! I love reading some of the names these makeup companies give to their color. They are super fun and creative.
DeleteI love this twist! I think all of these would make great cosmetic names.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to figure out what each "color" would look like
DeleteGreat twist, (you had me at Merlot is such a good lipstick name!!) love all your choices, 'Girl, Defective' is great one - i'm imagining it purple-ish for some reason.
ReplyDeleteIt would definitely be something dark and edgy
DeleteYou may end up with multiple comments from me.... but I've commented several times and it didn't seem to work. And since that's the issue I've been dealing with over on my blog I know it's on my end, so I'm trying to adjust settings and see if it works. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your twist this week!! I almost used Sunkissed, as well. <3
I moderate my comments because of Spam issues. No problem, Dedra!
DeleteGlad you got it! It usually shows a preview of my comment and then says it won't be posted until approved, but it was just disappearing after I hit publish. All my commenting issues have me a bit paranoid now. Haha. <3
DeleteWhenever I pick out nail colors at the salon, I notice the fun, punny names. People are so creative! And I agree with your choices - they would definitely work well for cosmetics. Fun list.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I admire people who can come up with stuff that like
DeleteI love your twist on this week's topic! You are so right though, cosmetics have great names like these... some of my nail polish names would fit on this list!
ReplyDeleteAre those witty names the best?
DeleteI love how your mind wandered Sam 🤣
ReplyDeleteIt was the first thing that popped into my head. I don't color, but I buy makeup
DeleteI should join a Top Ten Tuesday soon! I always love doing them and looking at other people's lists :)
ReplyDeleteI love making lists. Sometimes it can take a while to find the right books for the list, but I enjoy tackling each topic.
DeleteBe Dazzled and Happily Ever Afters are both on my tbr! I have also been reading YA contemporary again after about a years break from the genre, so I am here on your blog for all the recommendations :D
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed both immensely. I loved the cosplay construction aspect of Be Dazzled.
DeleteSuch fun picks! I think the idea of Kisses & Croissants would have me wanting to lick my lips constantly. LOL!
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting combination
DeleteI love your fun twist on this week's topic! I especially love Sunkissed for lip gloss, blush, or maybe a bronzer.
ReplyDeleteI think almost all of these would work for most makeup, and I wouldn't doubt if there was already some Sunkissed stuff out there.
DeleteThey do have fun names for lipstick and lip gloss. Going Rogue would be a great name!
ReplyDeleteRight! Extra points if they evoke the feel of these books. That's probably asking too much
DeleteOkay I LOVE THESE! I would absolutely buy some of these for the name alone hahah. (Also, for some reason, now ALL I can think of is "Kissing Koolers"- you remember those? They were my JAM back in the day. Mostly glorified chapstick but they tasted so good!)
ReplyDeleteI feel like you have talked about those before. I googled, and they look familiar. Did they have creme flavors? If they were late 80s, I know I was wearing "real" make up then (Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc). Body Shop was big too, and Kissing Potion.
