Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

What happened this week? Nothing I think. It was a little rude for me. It had been a month since I worked a 5-day week. I think I will take a day off when the kid visits for Mother's Day, so I have that to look forward to.

I think all I did was work and read, and my sister came by one day to "test drive" my car. She is thinking of getting a Forester and wanted to try it out. She liked it, so I thought that was good. Otherwise, not much going on in my neck of the woods.

For everyone concerned about there being cake at Easter lunch, there was. In fact, there were three different kinds of cake. There was no chocolate (of course), but at least there was cake. Every time we have a gathering, and my mom buys cake, she always asks me - do you like this? And I tell her, I like chocolate cake, EVERY TIME. Maybe it will stick one of these days.

STACKING THE SHELVES

I was happy to see Rebekah Crane's new book was an Amazon First Reads, because all my experiences with her books have been wonderful. My jaw dropped to the ground, when I got the approval for Zentner's new book. He's another author who always delivers a winner for me. I am excited to read more from Vale too. I adored her debut.

What I Read Last Week

So many good books this week! I was not surprised by how warm and fuzzy the Kasie West book made me, but I LOVED Fade Into Bright. It was heartbreaking, but wonderful at the same time. So good!

My audiobook listening is really taking a hit due to the new job. A big part of my position is doing research and writing resolution letters. I have to really focus and can no longer have the audiobook running in the background. I know I will still meet my reading challenge, but I will miss listening to all those stories.

What I Am Currently Reading

Don't be alarmed! I know it's odd to see a paranormal book here, but there was something about the title and synopsis that made me want to read it.

I have never read anything from Lynn, but I needed a book for my Books on the Menu prompt, and this one fit the bill. Sounds cute.

What I Plan to Read

Looks like the ARCs are all May 4th releases. It means I am a week behind on my reading. Not sure where that happened, but it did. 🤷
How was your week?

  1. 5 day work weeks are rude, frankly. It's hard to get used to them when you get used to shorter weeks...

    That cat. :)

I love the IG's you share!

    1. There are roles at my company that do 40 in 4, but I don't know if I would want to work a 10 hour day (+ 30 mins for lunch). That's a long day.

    2. That is a long day. I'm nt sure I would either...

  2. Having to work 5 days a week is hard after having some time off. We've been getting off an hour early on Fridays which helps a bit. I hope that you get your chocolate cake soon. Have a great week!

    1. That's nice. My old boss used to do the hour early on Fridays during the summer, because it gets really slow at work in the summer. Can't complain too much, since I am working from home.

  3. Sounds like you’re going to have to be the one to buy the chocolate cake next time.
Lol I’m about a month behind on my ARC Reading

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. Yeah, I hate 5 day work weeks...which is pretty much every week. Already counting down the days til Memorial day for that glorious 3 day weekend followed by a 4 day work week! It will be bliss! Lol!

Nice new reads! Those are all new to me ones. I hope you enjoy them all!

    1. I used to really treasure those days off when I was teaching. Not as much now, but being a new position, I feel unsteady at times. I know it will get easier at some point though.

Aww, poor you 😉. Also, how can you have Easter without chocolate?

    Have a nice week!

    1. We haven't done the whole Easter candy thing in a really long time, but I have made it clear to my family that I like cake at these events. I only ever get good dessert when the kid is here. She knows my heart.

  6. You can never have enough cake! I love them all as long as there's no fruit inside. Hurray for some good reads last week!

    1. I don't know. I enjoy a layer cake with fruit or a good fruit tart sometimes

  7. This week marked the beginning of our no days off until the end of the school year. It's depressing. But yay for cake!! And I have enjoyed KC Lynn's books for the most part. They are pretty sappy, but mostly enjoyable.

    1. Wow! Not even Memorial Day? That's my next holiday. Oh, do you end in May? Then that makes sense (unfortunately). Oh, yeah, the Lynn book is sappy, but sweet. I love that stuff

    1. She's make food I don't like either and tell me I like it, but it will be things I have never liked, and have told many times. We just to accept it.

    1. Right? It looks a little lighter than Vale's last book too (which featured a toxic friendship). Quinn's books are always fun for me

  10. Glad you got some cake, even if it wasn't chocolate. LOL! Funny that you read Moonglass, since I just read it recently too!

    1. One of these days, I will get my just dessert. That is odd that we both read a really old YA book recently. Look at that!

  11. I'm not a fan of 5 day work weeks either. They've been more tolerable since I've been working at home and therefore have no commute, but once we're back in the office, I'll go back to loathing them, lol. I just realized I have a bunch of May 4th ARCs to get through as well. Best of luck to both of us!

    1. It is definitely better while WFH. I don't miss that commute! I am just a whiny baby after having so many short weeks in a row. At least I am busy at work. It makes the time go faster. Seriously, May 4th seems to be THE day

  12. I don't think I could ever listen to audiobooks while working. I do most of my listening on my commute, drives back and forth to our daughter's and exercising.

Lycanthropy and Other Chronic Illnesses sounds interesting. Look forward to your thoughts, Sam.

    1. I had a desk job, so it was easy. I am still in desk job type position, but it requires way more focus. Lycanthropy was good. I appreciated the buddy story, which highlighted chronic illness.

  13. I’m glad you got some cake, even if it wasn’t chocolate. I went back to full time work last week after a year of part time. I already hate it. I’m too lazy for 40+ hour weeks!

    1. I can only imagine how difficult it is. You all will be hearing me whimper when I have to start going back into the office. Working at home is one thing, adding another four hours to my day will be torture.

  14. Your cake comment made me laugh. It reminded me of my husband's family. They're always buying him German chocolate cakes and saying they're his favorite. They're not. He likes carrot cake. He doesn't know how they decided German chocolate was his favorite. I hope you get your chocolate cake soon!

  15. A full work week after awhile of not having them can be rough!!
I'm glad they had lots of cake at Easter but booo for not getting you your chocolate.
