Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

Poignant, hopeful, and full of emotional power, an unforgettable story in the vein of P.S. I Love You about two people learning to love again after great loss, perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes and Josie Silver. Why I want to read this book
How can you move on if you can’t let go?
Spencer was the love of Anna’s life: her husband, her best friend, her rock. She thought their love would last forever.
But three years ago, Spencer was tragically killed in an accident and Anna’s world was shattered. How can she ever move on, when she’s lost her soulmate?
On New Year’s Eve Anna calls Spencer’s phone number, just to hear his old voicemail greeting. But to her shock, someone answers…
Brody has inherited Spencer’s old number and is the first person who truly understands what Anna’s going through. As her and Brody’s phone calls become lengthier and more frequent, they begin opening up to each other—and slowly rediscover how to smile, how to laugh, even how to hope.
But Brody hasn’t been entirely honest with Anna. Will his secret threaten everything, just as it seems she might find the courage to love again?
As much I tend to aver my love for the cute and fluffy books, I also tend to pick these books that bring the pain. I especially gravitate towards stories where I am part of a healing journey. Loss is a natural part of life and seeing someone make it through is always encouraging for me. This inheriting someone's old phone number is something that I have seen before in other books, and I am curious to see what Lucas does with this plot device. I anticipate tears, lots of feels, and in the end, some joy.

Her biggest fantasy is about to become a reality. . .Why I want to read this book
Jed West is Mr. Hockey. The captain of the NHL’s latest winning team, the Denver Hellions–and the hottest player on the ice—at least according to every magazine. . .and Breezy Angel. Breezy has been drooling over Jed at games for years, and he plays a starring role in her most toe-curling fantasies. But dirty dreams don’t come true, right?
Then Jed saunters through the doors of her library, a last minute special guest for a summer reading event, and not only is he drop dead gorgeous up close, his personality is straight up swoon-worthy. He even comes to the rescue when she has an R-rated “Super Book Worm” costume malfunction. But when he mistakenly assumes she’s more into books than pucks, she’s too flustered to correct his mistake. And then comes a big kiss, followed by a teensy-tiny problem. Jed’s dating policy is simple: Never date a fan.
So what’s a fangirl going to have to do to convince her ultimate crush that he’s become less of a perfect fantasy, and more like the perfect man. . .for her?
You guys know how much I love hockey romances, so it shouldn't surprise you that I have this one on my shelf. However, I read the other two books in the series as ARCs. After reading the second book, Head Coach, I went back and purchased this book. As you can see, I "forgot" to read it, but I am looking forward to finally finishing the series, and hey, there's mention of some library action in the synopsis, which is always a good thing.
I bawled my eyes out at PS I love you, and I imagine reading The Last Goodbyw would be the same. I have never heard of this plot device before, but it seems to perfect for stories like this.
ReplyDeletePS I Love You made me bananas. It was long journey and filled with so much heartbreak.
DeleteThe Last Goodbye sounds like my kind of read!
ReplyDeleteI am here for it. I think it will bring the tears, happy and sad.
DeleteI know the first one is on my TBR. The second one is new to me, but I also love hockey romances, and I'm intrigued by the Super Bookworm costume it talks about in the synopsis. Great picks!

How can you not be intrigued by a super bookworm?
DeleteI think I read a book in the Mister Hockey series, but I don't think it was that one. I remember liking it. I hope you end up loving this one.

DeleteI love hockey romances too! Hope this is a good one!
ReplyDeleteI am starting it after work, so I'll know soon
DeleteBoth of these books sound like something that I would enjoy. I can't pass up a good hockey romance and I love the idea of two people finding each other through an inherited phone number. I can't wait to see what you think of them.
ReplyDeleteRight? The answer to hockey romance is always "yes" for me
