Top Ten Tuesday: Waiting and Winning!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Waiting and Winning!

Here I am, going off topic again, but I just wasn't feeling this week's topic. Instead, I decided to take a look back at some of my Can't Wait Wednesday (Waiting on Wednesday) picks. This is a meme I adore. It's me making predictions about which books I believe will be winners for me. I also like to think of it as my wish to the universe, that I get my hands on this book, read it, and love it. As I was going back through my CWW picks, I realized I have read most of them, and you know what? Many have rated between 4.5 and 5 stars. It's a testament to how good I am at picking out books for myself.

Without further ado, here are ten of my past CWW picks, which have all been stupendous reads for me. I have read all these in the past year, and provided links to my reviews (if you're interested).

Have any of your book predictions come true?

  1. Ahh, you've reminded me I haven't read A good girl's guide to Murder! And 10 Blind dates! I am in sore need of that goodness!

    1. Both are so good! 10 Blind Dates would be my suggestion for a feel good book, but both were excellent

  2. Loved 10 Blind Dates - so cute.
Just had to re-skim Good Girl's Guide for a work project and liked it but yikes I completely forgot about that Barney situation and now I'm upset.
Have been meaning to try We Are Not The Perfect Girl - was a little put off by the premise but I'll try it!

    1. We Are the Perfect Girl is so underrated. It's about friendship and self acceptance. It was really good

  3. How awesome that so many of your CWW picks went on to be 4-5 star reads! Like you, I know what I like and I'm good at picking what I want to read. Sure there are duds here and there (it's going to happen) but for the most part, I know what appeals to me and that's what I'm drawn to. I know I said at the time (and in your review) but I really do like the sound of Throw Like a Girl. :)

    1. The few that didn't work for me, and I DNFed, had political creep. I am just so over politics 24/7. Don't want it in my books. Throw Like a Girl was SOOOO good! A definite favorite of mine

  4. It’s cool that you’ve read most of your CWW books. I started participating in that meme this year, and I’ve only read 1 of the books from my posts.

    1. Have they all been released? I only went through released titles. You tend to read backlist more, so I bet you will get to them at some point

  6. I was very hyped for The Whisper Man by Alex North and boy did it deliver! I love when a book we hope to love ends up being everything and more that we wanted from it.

  7. I think I have a much lower success rate than you, but I still manage to read a fair amount of them! Lucky Caller is definitely on my list.

  9. I miss CWW. :) I haven't done that in ages. A Good Girl's Guide To Murder is on my list... I really need to get to that one!

    1. I like doing them, though sometimes it takes me a long time to find a book to feature. Once I find the book, the post is quick to write up, and then, my wish is out in the world. GGTM was so good. The sequel came out in the UK, and I am going nuts trying to find out when we will get it here.

    2. I had a hard time sometimes with CWW too, in terms of selecting a book to feature, since I don't spend a lot of time on Netgalley and don't do a lot of ARC's, so I'm not always in the know as much about upcoming releases. It is a fun feature though for sure and I might start doing again one of these days...

    3. I am always looking through the catalogs, book site, and any anticipating lists, but I like to feature books that are not too far out. Usually, I want pub dates within the next month, but so many book releases have been pushed to do convid-19, so I had to go a bit further

  10. I really need to read Lucky Caller-- I love Emma Mills SO MUCH. Also, I've always wanted to read one of Moïra Fowley-Doyle's books.

    1. Lucky Caller was quintessential Mills. She has the best characters, and always presents these stories that hit my heart in the best way. I think you would like Fowley-Doyle's books. They tend a little darker, especially the last one. It was her answer to the atrocities waged against women in Ireland's history.

  12. What a fun idea to look at old CWW lists and see what you thought of the books! Knowing me, I probably wouldn't have even read a lot of them. (I haven't done CWW in a long time, but I'm just horrible about reading books that I'm not specifically reviewing!)

    1. I guess they are "goal" books for me. I enjoyed looking at how well I identified what worked too. I usually only request a book, that sounds good for me, but it's nice to actually be right.

  13. I was just thinking about doing a post going back over my past Can't-Wait books! How funny! I am still really looking forward to Lucky Caller. I'd hoped to have my hands on it already, but that just hasn't been the case yet.

  14. Oh this is a fun topic! I have only read All the Bad Apples, which I agree was great. I also love that cover so much more than the US one and I need it in my life. I also want to read 10 Blind Dates one of these days!

    1. The US cover was probably more gentle than the UK cover, but after reading the book, that cover makes so much sense, and I like the images they chose to incorporate. If you need a pick me up, read 10 Blind Dates. It's so fun and cute (that's my catchphrase)

  16. I have 10 Blind Dates. Started it but then the pandemic started and I got too busy. I plan to get back to it soon. I spy a few on your list that are new to me and will be checking them out.

  18. I've gotten good at picking what I know I'll like for the most part too. I really enjoyed Throw Like a Girl, and 10 Blind Dates! I haven't read any of the other books on this list, but I love Y.A. and this looks like a good list to check out again, for the next time I'm looking for a guaranteed good Y.A. read!

  19. Yes! A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is such a great read and so was the Emery Lord book. I love that so many of your CWW picks have gone on to be great reads for you. I think I've had more of a mixed bag in that area.

  22. 10 Blind Dates is on my festive reading list for this year. I never did get to reading it last year... Lucky Caller is another one I think I'd enjoy.

I love that you're so good at picking books for yourself. I rarely pick anything below a 3 star but I can never predict anything much beyond that.

    1. Yeah! 10 Blind Dates will definitely make you feel festive. I am not always great. I DNF almost every week, but I try not to talk about it.

  24. Reading this post I am realising how many books have been added to my goodreads list after I've seen you mention them. There are some good books here. I loved Good Girls Guide to Murder (I still need to read the next book). And The Iron Will of Genie Lo (also still need to read the next book). But there are so many I've not read but want to here, such as Throw Like a Girl and 10 Blind Dates.

    1. I am jealous that you can get the next GG book. I can't even find a US release date. *sad face* The conclusion for Genie was great. I was really impressed with what Yee did there at the very end, because that's my catnip. Glad you find some books that interest you when you visit.

  25. I go off topic quite a lot with TTT though I haven't looked at what it was this week. I'm playing catchup!

    1. I like the idea of TTT, because I love making lists of books that are connected in some way, but all the topics don't necessarily work for me. I go rogue whenever I want
