Oh, Mother!
So, this is not really the topic, and I actually think this week's topic is great. However, I am not one to keep track of books with great opening lines. Those of you who do such things are rock stars.
Now that that's out of the way. I had recently finished I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman, which followed a mother and her teen daughter as they attempted to reconnect on a road trip. I enjoyed it so much, and was inspired to find YA books I had read, which also featured complicated mother-daughter relationships. There was this barrier between mother and daughter in each of these books, but I liked the way the authors navigated it. In each case, the characters were able to learn more about their mother, grow to understand her better, and deepen their connection, mend the rift, or accept their mother for who she was.
