Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

For fans of Jenny Han and Christine Riccio comes a romantic dramedy about a teen girl who stumbles upon a mysterious website that tells her everything she doesn't want to know about her future. Why I want to read this book
There's something about Truman Alexander that Skyler Finch finds incredibly annoying. Actually, several things: his voice (grating), his arrogance (total know-it-all), his debate-team obsession (eyeroll), and his preppy vibe (does he iron his shorts?). She does her best to avoid him and focus on the important stuff: friends, school, and her boyfriend, Eli. His promposal was perfect--just like he is--and the future is looking bright. Or is it?
For some unexplainable reason, Skylar's phone is sending her notifications from the future . . . a future in which, to her horror, she appears to be with Truman. As in, romantically. As in, Skyler cannot let that happen.
But trying to change the future means messing up the present, and what Skyler sees keeps shifting. Classmates disappear and reappear, swap partners and futures. Turns out there are no actions without reactions, and life doesn't come with a road map. But sometimes the wandering leads you exactly where you need to be, and people--like glitchy phones--are full of surprises.
Mysterious notification from the future indicating that she is in a relationship with a boy she sort of hates? Sound like this story holds the promise of some fun with Skyler trying to keep this future from happening. Yes, I have seen the social media from the future premise before, but this one has, what it seems, a hate-to-love twist. I'm intrigued.

I'm dreaming of the boy in the tree. I tell him stories. About the Jellicoe School and the Townies and the Cadets from a school in Sydney. I tell him about the war between us for territory. And I tell him about Hannah, who lives in the unfinished house by the river. Hannah, who is too young to be hiding away from the world. Hannah, who found me on the Jellicoe Road six years ago.Why I want to read this book
Taylor is leader of the boarders at the Jellicoe School. She has to keep the upper hand in the territory wars and deal with Jonah Griggs - the enigmatic leader of the cadets, and someone she thought she would never see again.
And now Hannah, the person Taylor had come to rely on, has disappeared. Taylor's only clue is a manuscript about five kids who lived in Jellicoe eighteen years ago. She needs to find out more, but this means confronting her own story, making sense of her strange, recurring dream, and finding her mother - who abandoned her on the Jellicoe Road.
The moving, joyous and brilliantly compelling new novel from the best-selling, multi-award-winning author of Looking for Alibrandi and Saving Francesca.
Marchetta is an author I have seen mentions by many of the international bloggers I follow. Based on all the praise I have seen for her, I finally took the plunge and read Saving Francesca, which I absolutely loved. This one is a bit different. There seems to be a bit of mystery in the story, and since it's described as moving and joyous, it seems like a good pick for me.

Oh, I am all over Now and When! I *adore* that premise AND how does she end dating a guy she doesn't like!? Awesome pick, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI see so many great possibilities with this premise. I am eager to see where the author went with it
DeleteJellicoe is one of my all-time favorite books! It's so so good. Marchetta is honestly magic with her words.
ReplyDeleteI have seen so many bloggers talk about Marchetta, especially international bloggers, and that's why I tried her books at all. With a fantastic first experience, I am expecting great things from this book, and I am so happy to hear I picked one of your favorites.
DeleteOh my goodness, I really like the sound of Now & When. The messages from the future, and finding out she's with the guy she can't stand... I'm already curious to see how that plays out. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw someone reference the Jay Asher/Carolyn Mackler book, but this sounds like it has a bit of different spin.
DeleteMessages from the future? And with a boy she can’t stand too? I’m intrigued! The mystery in Jellico Road sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteJellico Road is a book I have seen so many rave about. It's time for me to read it
DeleteNow & When sounds like such an interesting book! Never heard of it before, but definitely adding it to my endless TBR list! My interest is officially piqued!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I know I will never run out of is books I want to read
DeleteNow & When is on my TBR too! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Wednesday post
It sounds like a fun twist on the concept. I'm up for it. I hope one of us reads it.
DeleteI'm pulling THE WHISPER MAN by Alex North off of my shelf this week. It was a Christmas gift that I've been very eager to read.
ReplyDeleteI saw a lot of good reviews for that book. I like multigenerational stories too. Hope it's a winner for you.
DeleteI haven't read Jellicoe Road yet either. But of these sound good to me.
ReplyDeleteI want to work my way through Marchetta's backlist. Not all the books are available, but I hope to read what I can get
DeleteNow and Then sounds like the Future of Us which I never read. I'm curious though!
ReplyDeleteI have seen some people saying that. I did read Th Future of Us, and I liked it. This has a little bit of a different spin, and I am curious to see where the author goes with it
DeleteJellicoe Road is one of those that I've been meaning to read for awhile. :) Great picks!
ReplyDeleteEverybody has so much love for that book. I put all Marchetta's books on my TBR, because she would constantly appear on lists of must reads. I think it will work well for me
DeleteOoh nice picks! These are both new to me ones! I hope you thoroughly enjoy them both once you get to read them!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Thanks! Jellicoe is a sure thing, but I will have to hope the powers that be approve me for the other
DeleteNOW AND WHEN sounds super fun! I love those kinds of premises. I'll have to look for that one. JELLICOE ROAD is really good. I read it like ten years ago, but I LOVED it. I hope you do, too :)
ReplyDeleteI started Jellicoe this morning, and I am eager to see how these two stories fit together
DeleteOoh, I love the premise of Now & When - I love the idea of trying to change the future and the present and things getting all messed up.
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to see how people handle such information
DeleteNow and When sounds like a perfect book for me! I love the enemies to lovers trope. The Jenny Han comparison has my interest piqued as well. To the TBR it goes. Thanks for sharing these! :)
ReplyDeleteName drop Han, and I am there. Hopefully, it lives up to that promise
DeleteI hope you enjoy these! I read Jellicoe Road after it won the Printz (I think?) Award. I remember it being weird. I didn’t really get it.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Right now, I am not sure where it is going, but I am certainly interested
DeleteNow & When sounds so good! I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on Jellicoe Road. I just read that one a couple of years ago. It took me a little while to really get into it but then I ended up loving it.
ReplyDeleteAJ just said it was weird, and I am only 20ish% in, so I have to agree at this point. I treating it like a Maggie Steifvater book, where it's confusing, but then makes sense
DeleteThis made me smile. "There's something about Truman Alexander that Skyler Finch finds incredibly annoying. Actually, several things: his voice (grating), his arrogance (total know-it-all), his debate-team obsession (eyeroll), and his preppy vibe (does he iron his shorts?" The preppy vibe haha. Plus I just love those names! Truman Alexander and Skyler Finch. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteJellicoe sounds good also!
YA is so well known for trying to find those interesting names. Hopefully the characters are equally as interesting.
DeleteNow & When sounds like a fun read! I enjoy the hate to love trope and this one has an interesting premise with the mysterious notification from the future.
ReplyDeleteLindy@ A Bookish Escape
I enjoy hate-to-love unless the hate part is sort of toxic. I read a book, recently, featuring that trope, and I almost DNFed, because they were turning sort of mean. I was glad the book saved itself.
DeleteI LOVED Jellicoe Road and all Melina's other books! Hope you do too, Sam. Her writing is just fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI am about 20% in, and not sure where this is going, but I do want to find out
DeleteI have definitely seen Jellicoe Road around for a while and have been tempted to pick it up a time or two. Now & When sounds like such a unique concept. I hope you enjoy both of these, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI feel like Jelicoe and Saving Francesca are the two I always hear about from Marchetta. It's really odd, but good so far
DeleteI remember seeing lots of great reviews for Jellicoe Road.
ReplyDeleteI am about 75% through, and at first, I thought it was weird, but at about 50%, the pieces all started to come together. They odd style reminds me of reading a Maggie Stiefvater book. Nothing makes sense, until it does.
DeleteI'd like to read both of these:)
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a chance someday
DeleteMarchetta is on my list too Sam! For a loong time now sigh!
ReplyDeleteThis book was amazing! It started out so bizarre, but then it all came together, and it was incredible.
DeleteI still haven't read any Melina Marchetta books which is probably embarrassing for me. I mean, there are so many bloggers singing her praises. I hope you read Jellicoe Road and maybe I should go get myself one of her books to read too.
ReplyDeleteJellico was so good. I wasn't sure at first, but then everything fell in to place. Stupendous!
Deleteah I love your picks this week, Sam! Two books I really want and am looking forward to reading. Now & When sounds so original, and I've been hearing incredible things about Jellicoe Road, I'm excited to get to it! :)
ReplyDeleteI finished Jellicoe last night. It totally snuck up on me, and hit me right in the feels. So good!
DeleteLove the colour scheme of Now and When's cover! It sounds awesome. I love the premise! Now I want to know what happens with her and her boyfriend and how she ends up with Truman! (Or does she?!)
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely an eye catching cover. Probably why I bothered to learn more about it. It sounds a bit like The Future of Us, but more current, and with a twist. I am eager to find out more about it.
DeleteBoth of these are on my TBR! I've read some of Marchetta's other books and really enjoyed them! Finnikin of the Rock & Froi of the Exiles.
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?😷 💬
I don't foresee me reading her fantasy books, but I have all her contemporaries on my TBR. The first two have been stellar for me, and I am eager to read more
