Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

I lead a dull life, so there's not much to say about this week. I did really enjoy the long weekend, even if I was sick for most of it. I got my haircut on Monday, and I was happy my stylist was back. I feel like she listens to me, and tries to accommodate my needs.

I am going, soon, to pick up my tailoring from a new place. I am short, and have to have all my pants tailored, but my people keep retiring. The guy, who took over my old cleaner's place, messed up my last pair. I gave him my inseam, and the pants were a half inch too long. My daughter took them back to Chicago and altered them for me, but I paid for that! So, I was mad, and searched for a new place. This shop is third generation, so I am hoping for the best. It was so much easier, when I had my daughter nearby to tailor my clothes. *sigh*

What I Am Currently Reading

I am very much enjoying One of Us is Next, as I thought I would. I like that McManus is including the Bayview four in some capacity, because I was curious as to what happened to them after the last book ended.

I had actually read 48% of Bookworm, when I set it aside. There were so many pop culture references, I was going nuts, but once we are focusing

What I Plan to Read

Lots of romance this week!

How was your week?

  1. You don't lead a dull life! You don't have to be doing something every week for life to be classified as exciting ;) I am sick at the moment too :/ I hope you're better now though! And that this new place you're trying manages to get your trousers right...

    1. Oh, no! I hope you feel better soon. You have a very active life, this must be frustrating for you. Get some rest, and get well quick!

  2. Long weekends are nice but being sick- not so much. Hope you're feeling better, and good luck with the tailoring too! That can definitely be frustrating.

Love the WoofWoof! :) Poor thing just wants to get in the water haha! And love the animal kisses too. A dog and a raccoon! Wow...

Glad you're liking One Of Us Is Next so far. I enjoyed it too.

    1. It's the lingering after. Trying to decide if I need to see my asthma guy or not. I did like One of Us is Next. Just finished it, and although I figured out parts, I was happy with the unknowns. In my mind, Knox got the girl too. All those animal kisses melted my heart. Too cute!

    2. Knox definitely gets the girl! :)

  3. Awesome haul this week, Sam! I hope you'll enjoy all your new books, and I'm especially curious about what you'll think of Wild at Heart ;)
I hope the new tailor you've found will work well. It's not OK when you pay for something and you don't get it done well.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    1. I am excited about Wild at Heart. I need to work it into my TBR soon. Fingers crossed the new tailor works out, because I have to get all my pants hemmed, and need someone reliable.

  4. I also live a dull life and I'm very happy with it! Drama leads to stress and I don't need any more of that in my life!

    1. I would choose dull over drama any day. I am a homebody, which is fine by me, but it doesn't give me much to talk about.

  5. The cover of The bookworm crush is too cute, but oh man, really, the pop culture references sound like they're out of control (sadly). They can be so good when they're used correctly but not over done.

    1. It's not bad, but when will authors realize less is more with pop culture. I see it in so many reviews too. Maybe someone should tell them.

  6. It sucks when you have to search for a new option (tailor, stylist, whatever). My husband has been using the same tailor for years but when he picked up some pants last week the prices had shot up... again. They're about to price themselves right out of business. Time to search again. Ugh. I was so happy to get my copy of Wild at Heart this week. I don't think I'll be reading it immediately (gotta savor it for a bit like I always do LOL) but I love knowing it's ready and waiting for me.

    1. It's really annoying, because the kid used to do my pants for free. *sigh* This guy was $10 a pair, so that's not bad. I wanted to get Wild at Heart in my TBR this week, but I didn't. Soon, soon, really soon.

  7. I love these vids Sam! And I understand your struggle with pants as I am on the short side too. The only difference is that I do them myself as my mom taught me! Now I am so happy that you are loving one of us is Next and I am also rushing now to read your review of Moti!!!! Have a wonderful week!

    1. My dad used to hem my uniforms when I was a kid. My daughter would teach me, but she lives 700 miles away with her cache of sewing machines. Moti was fun. I felt it was more women's fiction, but the romance element was strong, and Attar wrapped it up wonderfully.

    1. Can you believe that song even exists? I sang it for one of my younger co-workers, and they were scandalized.

  10. I have such trouble with pants. I'm too tall for petite but too short for regular. So I always end up looking like I'm wearing borrowed pants.
I played the short people song for my students one time and they couldn't believe how "savage" it was.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My inseam is 1 inch shorter than petite. It pains me to have to add $10 to $15 to every pair of pants I buy. It really is a savage song. It's very politically incorrect, and it would have never been released in this day and age

      Delete
  11. Yeah it sucks being short. I find that some "regular" pants are too long, but if I wear my boots with them I can get by. But the "short" ones end up being too short and rise up to show off my socks which annoys me. So I usually suffer with the "regular." I did take my pants to a tailor once and she did a good job but then she must have closed up shop sometime ago because when I drove by awhile back her storefront was gone. Sigh.

Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones but I hope you will love them once you get to read them!

    1. I am just a bit too short for petite, so, have to hem every pair. The good news was this guy was third generation taking over the business, he was pretty young, and the place was busy when I went in. Fingers crossed he stays in business.

  12. That is frustrating to pay for an alteration and then have them mess it up. Hope your new people work out. The animal kisses video is sooo cute!

I'm in line at my library for a copy of One of Us is Next so I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it. I think I'm going to buy a copy of Wild at Heart even though I was worried about a sequel ruining my feelings for The Simple Wild. I've been seeing good reactions for it.

    1. It was like love-o-rama and I adored every second of watching all those animals give out kisses. I did enjoy One of Us is Next. I think McManus writes mysteries, that appeal to a non-mystery reader. I can usually figure out part of it, but then she will throw in something that surprises me. I ended up really like the three characters, who told the story, and she did a nice job including the Bayview four from the original. I hope you enjoy it too!

  14. My husband was off for President's Day but I had to go to work which I didn't think was fair. I have been lucky in that my mom is willing to hem or fix my clothes when needed. I rarely ask her for help but there have been times that I had to. So many great looking books!

    1. I always guilted my daughter into hemming my pants back when she was home, but now she is too far away. *sigh* I should make her teach me how to do it, and also make her give me her starter machine, because I don't have one.

  17. I've been picking up a couple Staci Hart books on Kindle recently, there have been some free ones!

I usually get my mom to hem my pants, but sometimes they are just too long and she's not comfortable cutting too much off.

    1. They look cute, and I have seen good reviews for Hart's books. They were free, why not? My dad can hand sew really well, but getting him to do anything is a struggle. I don't mind paying, but when they don't do it right, it's really frustrating.

    1. And that factors a LOT into how much I will spend on a pair of pants. I have to add $10+ to every pair, and I can never plan on wearing them right away either. The struggle

  20. I hope this new tailor works out - that has to be so frustrating!! I'm really curious about You Deserve Each Other, so I hope you enjoy it. I won physical ARCS of Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert and Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall and I'm so excited to read them. I love Annabeth Albert, but I'm new to Hall I think.

I sometimes struggle with high angst, but this is supposed to go in the direction I want. It is funny though, I wish we had the other POV. It's sort of how I felt about The Hating Game too. Congrats on the win! I hope we both love the books

  21. Good luck with your new tailor. I'm short too and the struggle is real to find and keep a good tailor. Mine are always retiring or relocating. Yay for getting Take a Hint, Dani Brown. I just requested that one as well but I think I was late to the game. I hope it's as good as Chloe Brown.

    1. My daughter took sewing in middle school, then I sent her to classes at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, and then she got a BFA in Theatre Design with a focus on costume design. So, I nurtured her love of clothing construction. The least she could do is hem my pants, right? The cat and that bear cracked me up. It so sweet, but also hilarious. For the Win was good. I was really happy with the storyline Jamieson gave Harrison.

  23. I hope you're feeling better, Sam. <3 I'm always scared when I've to cut my fringe/bangs - when my stylish is not around, I always end up with a bad haircut.

Books with too many pop culture references usually annoy me.

  25. Your life is much less dull than mine. At least you have an exciting commute! 😂
    Sorry, I couldn't help myself...🙂

Your daughter knows how to sew? My mom used to be a seamstress when she was young, and has been taking care of my stuff (and even making original dresses) for me for years. I've always hated to sew though, and she was wise enough not to force me to learn. I'll admit it comes in handy though. I hope your new tailor suits (LOL, I made a pun) your needs!

    1. Ugh! My commute! You know, we had a 30 min delay on Monday AND someone was trapped in the bathroom. Tuesday a teen was struck by the train near my station, and it was delays and chaos for like 6 hours, and there was some other issue last night. I woke up to like 50 emails from NJT about delays. I hope next week is problem free.

My daughter fell in love with sewing in middle school, continued in high school, and took classes in the summer in Manhattan at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her BFA is in theatre design (costume design concentration), and she worked in a professional costume shop as an undergrad. She makes all my pajama pants for me, since I can never find ones that fit right.
