Can't-Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
The Iron Will of Genie Lo
F.C. Yee
Series: The Epic Crush of Genie Lo, #2
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Publisher: Amulet
Release Date: January 21, 2020
Goodreads
The fate of the heavens is at stake in this hilarious and highly-anticipated sequel to the The Epic Crush of Genie Lo

Genie Lo thought she was busy protecting the Bay Area from demons. But now, as a Heaven- appointed Guardian, even the well-being of demons is her responsibility—and their numbers are multiplying. Guanyin and Quentin are doing their best to help; but what they really need is for the Jade Emperor to get off his butt and deal with the crisis. While he’s AWOL, Genie nominates Guanyin to fill in his shoes, unaware that the role will go to the god who can defeat a mysterious threat to the supernatural order. Along with a few other contenders for the throne, including a former enemy, Genie and her friends embark on a Heavenly quest to an in-between world. But when faced with true danger, the group realizes that what will save the universe this time is sacrifice, not strength.
Why I want to read this book

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo was an absolute hit for me. The book was funny and witty and Genie was a star. I could not get enough of her. When I finished reading the book, I felt like there were more adventures for Genie and Quinten to explore, and sure enough, soon thereafter, a sequel was announced. I cannot wait to catch up with Genie and Quinten and to get back to this world.

First & Then
Emma Mills
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Henry Holt
Release Date: October 13, 2015
Goodreads
Devon Tennyson wouldn't change a thing. She's happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon's cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn't want them: first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.
Why I want to read this book

Funny story, this is the only Emma Mills book I purchased. The others were either ARCs or from the library. Yes, I have owned this book since June of 2017, yet, it is unread. It's odd too, because ALL of Emma Mills books have been hits for me. See for yourself!

There is no doubt in my mind this will be a hit for me, and I am excited, because then I can say I read all Mills' books.

    1. I just finished First & Then, which is the last book of her's I needed to read, and it was wonderful! I liked Famous in a Small Town. She actually mentions Megan in her latest book, Lucky Caller, which I always love authors to do.

    1. Genie Lo was so good, and I am not even a big fantasy fan. It was Genie, who made me love that book so much. I hope you get to it at some point.

    1. Wasn't it? I couldn't believe how much I loved Genie Lo, and when I found out there would be more, I was over the moon. But, let's face it, the ending to the first book left room for many additional adventures.

    1. I used to read more fantasy, because I always read my daughter's books, but there was something about the way Genie was described, which pulled me in. I also love folk tales and mythology, and I have too say, the humor was fantastic in the Genie Lo book.

  15. I actually know both of these books and have even read one of them! First & Then isn't Emma Mills strongest book Ever but it is most definitely enjoyable so I hope you like it. And I'm so psyched for the next Genie Lonbook, although I kind of want to reread the first book since it's been so long since I've read it just to refresh myself on the story but I've got time until it's release!

    1. I actually loved First & Then, and I am saying that having read them all. It has those elements that always stand out in her books - family and friendship. I loved the cousin and was a fan of Ezra. I enjoyed it a lot. It made me smile.
