Look at me! Going off script (again), but I have been wanting to do more fall inspired lists. If you live in the US, you know there are many, many people, who eagerly anticipate the fall season, because it brings back their beloved football. I am not a big pro-sports fan, but I went to high school in a small town, where Friday nights equaled football, and my high school won two championships while I was there, which elevated those games to the place to be. I have many fond memories of those nights under the lights, and always love reading a book featuring football. The following are some YA books I have enjoyed, as well as some I hope to read.
- Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
- Surviving Adam Meade by Shannon Klare
- Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
- Gut Check by Eric Kester
- Game Change by Joseph Monninger
- After the Game by Abbi Glines
- The Hard Count by Ginger Scott
- Throw Like a Girl by Sarah Henning (TBR)
- Backfield Boys by John Feinstein (TBR)
- Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach (TBR)
Do you enjoy American football?

I don't mins a sports centered young adult novel as long as they're not too technical, I don't understand American football or most of the American sports but love determined characters. The Miranda Kenneally books are great aren't they, we need more girls dominating in what used to be traditionally male sports.
ReplyDeleteKenneally is a go-to for me, and I am SO EXCITED that she has something new coming out. I am compiling a list of girls conquering male dominated sports as well. I like anything that challenges the status quo in a positive way.
DeleteGreat theme, Sam! I'm not a huge sports fan either, but I admit I do enjoy watching football. And having it in books is fun, too. I've fallen behind on Abbi's Field Party series but I have read the first three books and mostly enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteGlines delivers what I have grown to expect from her books, and though the last Field Party book was not my favorite, it was still entertaining and gave me what I was looking for. It was just an odd choice in how the story unfolded.
DeleteIf football comes with a healthy characterisation and plot outside football, I would give a book like this a go. Generally though, sports (in any country) just passes me by ;lol
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the sports books I read have a plot outside the sport, but I actually enjoy when the sport is featured. There is something about competitive sports and especially, people who play them on a high level, that I enjoy.
DeleteI used to watch American football on our sports channel live but the time difference and going to my bed earlier these days means I really don't get to watch it anymore. My team are the New Orleans Saints!
ReplyDeleteThe time difference must be tough where you are. We struggle with games on the west coast and that's only a 3 hours difference for us.
DeleteI haven't read any of these! Haha. I guess I don't seek out sports-related books, but I do love a good hockey romance. ;) My husband is a Packers fan, so I'm one by default (don't really care one way or the other, haha).
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
Hockey romances are amongst my favorites. I am always looking for more series to read. Is your husband intense about football? I have always met really intense cheeseheads.
DeleteCatching Jordan is still one of my favorites by the author! I just loved Sam!
ReplyDeleteKeneally's books are always so good. I cannot wait to start her new one, and finish her backlist.
Deletei am one of those people who look forward to fall with football in mind. just try pulling me away from my recliner saturday and sunday. :-) thanks for sharing all the good looking books
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I like the food aspect of football. Does that count? =)
DeleteI so loved The Hard Count! It's one of my favorites by Ginger Scott!!!!
ReplyDeleteI need to read more of Scott's books. I bought several when they were on sale. I really like her storytelling.
DeleteOoh fun pick! I have to say that I wouldn't be able to do one like this as seasons are never really explored that much in my kind of reads! Lol.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I know. Your worlds have all their own rules.
DeleteI want to read Gut Check and Catching Jordan! The rest, I hadn't heard of (except Abbi Glines')
ReplyDeleteGenesis @ Whispering Chapters
Keneally's books are all great. I am lucky my eLibrary has them, because I am determined to finish that series.
DeleteI love sports movies so I wonder why I don't read more sports books. LOL I should!
ReplyDeleteSports books usually give me the same feeling that sports movies do. That pumped up, feel good feeling. I love it.
DeleteI'm not a big sports person but I try and watch football with my husband and son even though I'm normally lost. I need to check out some of these.
ReplyDeleteWe used to play street football, and like I said, the game was the place to be when I was in high school. I have a decent knowledge of the game, and I love live games, but watching on TV just doesn't do it for me.
DeleteI love football books. There is just something about them. I will have to check out a few on your list that I haven’t seen before like Throw Like a Girl.
ReplyDeleteThrow Like a Girl comes out in January I think. I am crossing my fingers that I can get approved for it, though, I don't have much luck with that publisher.
DeleteI haven't read any of these and don't often read sports stories, but I agree that they definitely fit the season!
ReplyDeleteFall = pumpkin + sweaters + football
DeleteI was always a marching band kid myself haha. If you're looking for more adult centered football novels, John Grisham has two excellent ones in Bleachers and Playing for Pizza.
ReplyDeleteI have never read a Grisham book. I may be the only person who hasn't 🤣 Have to give them a look
DeleteCatching Jordan is a good one, and I used that cover once for a cover post- wish I remembered which one- so that jumped out at me. :)
ReplyDeleteFun list.
Keneally is a favorite of mine, and I love that they actually play football in these books
DeleteI love that The Hard Count made your list today too, but for a whole different reason! You have some great football reads on here.
ReplyDeleteIt was a really good book. My first, but not my last, Ginger Scott book
DeleteI do sometimes read sports romances, but I tend to veer away from football. It doesn't really interest me that much xD But give me a basketball romance and I would be happy! I just haven't come across so many of those :(
ReplyDeleteI have not stumbled upon too many basketball romances. Kennedy Ryan's series comes to mind and few YA books
DeleteI only went to ONE football game during my entire four years of high school! Haha! I'd probably be totally lost reading these XD
ReplyDeleteWow! Did you grow up in central FL? Because, I always thought they loved their football down there.
DeleteI'd love to experience Friday night football in the US... I've read so many books featuring it that I have expectations, lol. I'll never get to have that though. Going on holiday (and seeing a game) would never match up to living there and breathing it!
ReplyDeleteIt's such an American institution in my opinion. I remember, my daughter's high school didn't have lights until like her third year, and they would rent lights for their single night game each year. It's just that big a deal to have a game under the lights.
DeleteI wrote a whole comment on this post the other day and forgot to hit publish!
ReplyDeleteThis attempt number 2 of me trying to remember what I wrote.
American football has become a staple of our house, my stepdad and brother both support different teams but they both like to watch (although we usually have to watch it on catch up because the games are played at the wrong time for us). I still don't fully understand the game but I have an appreciation for all sports romance books about football because they're always so good to read and there some you've featured I've not heard of so yay! I get to book mark this post to add to my future reading list.
I am glad your comment went through this time. I never realized how popular American football was in your neck of the woods, until I started hearing about the game they play over there every year. I thought it was mostly ex-pats, but look at your family embracing the sport. This is just my YA list. My list would be a lot longer, if I had my adult romances on there, because I am utter trash for sports romances.
DeleteI love football, I love sports-themed books, and these are all titles I haven't read yet so it looks like my TBR is going to grow yet again this week, lol.
ReplyDeleteI thought there would be more, since I feel like I read a lot, but it seems most of mine are adult sports romances.
