Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

This week paled in comparison to my weekend. The play we saw on Sunday was so wonderful! I never realized how immense Carole King's music catalog is. Amazing! I had never been to the Stephen Sondheim theatre, and was really impressed with how modern and lovely it was. The two women next to me were singing every single song, and then they started sobbing during "You've Got a Friend". I won't lie, that song gets to me every time too.

This cracked me up

Ok, this was funny too

And, oh! That face!

Let's Discuss!
  • I love everything about what Kat is doing here! See how you can spread positivity.
  • Great posts about blogging! See what Olivia and Jo had to say about the blogger-life
  • Sophie had me nodding and laughing with her thoughts on the typical male romance hero

STACKING THE SHELVES

I was in heaven with the books Macmillan dropped on Edelweiss. I did show a lot of restraint, though it was very difficult. I got a whole lot of other requests granted, AND Sourcebooks posted the final book in the Ones Who Got Away series, which had me all sorts of excited.

What I Read Last Week

I didn't complete my weekly TBR this week, which was a little bit disappointing, but spending three days with my daughter was well worth the sacrifice. Almost every book I read or listened to was by a new-to-me author, and I am confident I will read more books from all of them.

  1. Aw that sounds like a lot of fun.

Wow that copyright stuff is bonkers! I love that that just sailed through haha! And The Great Escape cracked me up too. Nothing like teamwork. :) Now I kinda wanna go watch that movie lol.

    1. I love that that author wrote that stuff in there. The best! That cat had moxie, that's all I can say about them. Rubin has a great sense of humor and I really enjoyed Denton Little books. The premise plus him sounds like a winning combination to me.

  2. Glad you had fun at the play! That copyright thing is hilarious! I remember RI would read it but only if I had a book report for high school. That hedgehog is freaking adorable! 😍
So I guess IL be going to Edelweiss now! I see some I want so badly! I loved Tucker's novel! It showed me why I love her so much. And now I want to dive back into the Private world! I miss it!

    1. It's funny what people will put in the part of the book they think nobody reads. Private was all that delicious drama that I loved in all the CW shows I watched back when.

  3. Those copy right things were too funny! Thanks for sharing. I think it's a little scary that those aren't edited, though - imagine what else could be put there o.O
I'm glad you were able to spend some time with your daughter, Sam. My oldest comes home from four weeks of traveling tomorrow, and I can't wait to see her again!
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    1. I guess it's a good thing the author didn't write anything psychotic. I hope you have a wonderful reunion with your daughter. Last weekend was our first visit in almost 3 months, so I was happy to abandon all other activities to spend time with her.

    1. It was a lot of fun, but my daughter's visits are always too short.

  5. Haha, I love that copyright page. I read copyright pages because I need the publisher and publication date for my spreadsheets. I’m glad you had fun with your daughter and enjoyed the show.

    1. I read one recently, The Year We Fell that put a curse on anyone, who pirates the book. I just didn't realize the practice of writing funny things was a thing.

  6. Glad you enjoyed the show! That copyright page was hilarious! :) Too funny you mentioned the final The Ones Who Got Away book because I mentioned it in my post today, too. Great minds! I've enjoyed the series so much and can't wait for the next one. Hope you have a wonderful week, Sam!

    1. I saw the final Ones Who Got Away book on EW and jumped on that download. I am really excited to read Kincaid's story. She seems really complicated.

  7. We had family visiting this past week, too, so my reading was down. My sister-in-law actually apologized for cutting into my reading time, and I was like, "No way! I'd rather be spending time with all of you."

  8. I love the copyright tweet! I wonder how long it took someone to notice? Hilarious. Also, that cat made sure no one was left behind, haha. I'm curious about Finding Mr. Better-Than-You, so I look forward to seeing your thoughts! The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James is on my list too. How's the audio?

  12. It sounds like you had a great weekend! I'm glad you enjoyed the play! I hope you enjoy all your new books also. I'm sad to see that Stargirl didn't get a great rating. I'm a little scared to read it again as an adult.

    1. I liked Stargirl, but I was disappointed in Leo. I just couldn't forgive him. I am curious to see what happens in the second book, though.

  13. This post is so happy! It makes me happy! You've Got a Friend is one of the best songs ever, for sure, and I'd love to see the show you saw. I'm excited Rubin has a new book out, and can I tell you a secret (publicly)? I really really don't like Stargirl.

    1. It really is a phenomenal song, and I felt bad that I thought James Taylor wrote it. I didn't hate Stargirl. Any book I finish entertained me. I knocked off that half star, because I was really disappointed in Leo. I was actually mad, but my mood was tempered by John Ritter reading the book to me.

  14. It seem you had a lovely weekend, Sam. :) Hope you enjoy your new books. It must have been so hard to show restraint. The only reason I don't lose myself in Edelweiss it's because my requests are always denied.

    Happy readings, Sam!

    1. I have no idea how bloggers with a lot of pre-approvals control themselves. It's very tempting to just click everything. EW has actually been very good to me. There are certain pubs who reject me on both EW and NG, but I get a lot of love too.

  15. So glad to hear you enjoyed the Carole King show. I love her music! That copyright page is hilarious, lol. And wow, look at your amazing book haul this week. EW pretty much always rejects my requests so I don't even bother with it anymore but I'm glad to hear you have good luck with them.
