Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Jackpot
Nic Stone
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Crown Books for Young Readers
Release Date: October 15, 2019
Goodreads
From the author of the New York Times bestseller Dear Martin --which Angie Thomas, the bestselling author of The Hate U Give, called "a must read"--comes a pitch-perfect romance that examines class, privilege, and how a stroke of good luck can change an entire life.

Meet Rico: high school senior and afternoon-shift cashier at the Gas 'n' Go, who after school and work races home to take care of her younger brother. Every. Single. Day. When Rico sells a jackpot-winning lotto ticket, she thinks maybe her luck will finally change, but only if she--with some assistance from her popular and wildly rich classmate Zan--can find the ticket holder who hasn't claimed the prize. But what happens when have and have-nots collide? Will this investigative duo unite...or divide?

Nic Stone, the New York Times bestselling author of Dear Martin and Odd One Out, creates two unforgettable characters in one hard-hitting story about class, money--both too little and too much--and how you make your own luck in the world.
Why I want to read this book

I am fan of Nic Stone's books, and this is sounds like it will be a really interesting take on the jackpot winner theme that we saw quite a bit of in recent years. The synopsis says that this book takes on class and privilege, and I trust Stone to do it properly, and in a way that will lead to open discourse and understanding.

The Heir and the Spare
Emily Albright
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: December 4, 2015
Goodreads
Family can be complicated. Especially when skeletons from the past pop up unexpectedly. For American Evie Gray, finding out her deceased mother had a secret identity, and not one of the caped crusader variety, was quite the surprise. Evie’s mom had a secret life before she was even born, one that involved tiaras.

In this modern day fairytale, Evie is on a path to figure out who her mom really was, while discovering for herself what the future will hold. Charged with her late mother’s letters, Evie embarks on a quest into her past. The first item on the list is to attend Oxford, her mom’s alma mater. There, Evie stumbles upon a real life prince charming, Edmund Stuart the second Prince of England, who is all too happy to be the counterpart to her damsel in distress.

Evie can’t resist her growing attraction to Edmund as they spend more time together trying to unravel the clues her mother left behind. But, when doubts arise as to whether or not Edmund could ever be with an untitled American, what really ends up unraveling is Evie’s heart. When Evie uncovers all the facts about her mom’s former life, she realizes her mom’s past can open doors she never dreamed possible, doors that can help her be with Edmund. But, with everything now unveiled, Evie starts to crack under the pressure of new family responsibilities and the realization that her perfect prince may want her for all the wrong reasons.
Why I want to read this book

I am embarrassed to admit, that I purchased this book in April of 2016, and since then, I have read other Emily Albright books, but not this one. I know I wanted it, because I am always game for a royal romance, and Albright gives us a royal PLUS an American, who may also be a royal. I like the idea of her trying to get to know her mother better and uncovering some family secrets along the way.

    1. It's odd, because I am not a royal watcher, but books set in that world always intrigue me.

    1. I finished it this morning. It was super cute. I wish they had held back some details in the synopsis, so I would have been a little bit surprised, but I still enjoyed completing the quest with Evie and seeing her fall in love.
