Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Sorry to disappoint you all, but I have no train tales this week. YEAH!!!

The appointment with the orthopedist was like every other doctor's appointment - a waste of time. I still have carpel tunnel (knew that), but the problem with my thumb is the existing condition PLUS I'm old. Yes, arthritis. I have a splint to wear during the day on my right hand, which is annoying, and one for each hand at night. Hopefully it does something.

Kiersten and I will now be outfitted with the official shoe of WLABB - Tom's sloth print shoes.

Wednesday is Do Something Day, and my company actually had a volunteer opportunity down by me. I get to go to Ronald MacDonald House near Rutgers on Wednesday instead of work. I am pretty excited about that, because it is just a short 15 minute train ride from me.

There's a theme to some all these tweets. Can you guess what it is?

Let's Discuss!
  • Briana discussed why it's important to read more than just the headlines
  • Jenn confesses that she skips some parts of books
  • Catherine tells us why no one writes F***boys like Jane Austen

What I Read Last Week

I had a rather strong reading week. I did set a book aside, but I think it was because I just wasn't in the mood. I will probably pick it up later. I am so glad I finally read a few books by Jenn Marie Thorne. Both were really strong, and I am definitely a new fan.

I was beyond delighted with the new Chloe Snow book. I really hope S&S let's Chastain write that senior year book, because I need see Chloe off to college.

What I Am Currently Reading

I needed a time travel book for the July Monthly Motif challenge, and Time Between Us has been on my TBR for quite a while. I am enjoying it (and all the awesome 90s musical references). Stone did a nice job giving time travel her personal touch.

I am not too far into Announcing Trouble, but it's off to a strong start. It's not really hate-to-love, because it's baseball Josie has a direct problem with. Garrett is just guilty by association.

  1. WAIT, no train trouble this week? How dare you? I came here expecting entertainment! 🤣
Seriously, I think you had enough train trouble last week for the whole month...

The splints must be annoying for sure. I hope they help at least!

Quote: "the official shoe of WLABB".
😂 I didn't know there were so many sloth lovers in the U.S. to the point that someone decided to put them on a shoe LOL.

What did you do at Ronald MacDonald's?

    1. The RMH thing is this upcoming Wed, and I will be helping with a luncheon. It's fun to be back on campus (I have both my degrees from Rutgers), though it's so different from when I went to school there.

Sloths are the best! Last year, we got matching llama shoes, this year - sloths. I am hoping Toms makes some hedgehog ones for next year.

  2. I love the sloth shoes! How fun! It looks like you got a lot of great books this week! I usually just go on Netgalley, but it looks like maybe I need to check out Edelweiss out too. Congrats on winning two awesome looking books! I just love Katie West :). Hope you have another great week train problem free :)

    1. I did have an incredible haul week. I am so excited about these books, but I have to show some self control and read in order of publication (at least for review books)

  3. Sam, I love the shoes and I think I need them in my life!! I hope your hand gets better. That must be terrible. Lucky you for getting Not the Girl You Marry! And congrats on getting The Map from Here to There! Yay!!

    1. I was super excited about my haul and the shoes! I am trying to remember how my llama Toms fit, because the website said the shoes ran true to size, but they're really tight. I hate returning stuff.

  4. No train tales! That's a good thing though- yay for no train snafus!

Sorry to hear about the arthritis. I love the shoes though.

Those kitten videos are hilarious. Love the beach one- you don't see cats on the beach much (not like dogs, anyway)- I wonder how they like the sand? That one with them knocking things off the counter made me laugh too. Thanks for sharing :)

    1. Cats with short legs and smooshed faces are a direct way to my heart. The haircut those cats had was interesting. It made their faces look even flatter.

  5. I have to wear those same carpal tunnel splints! I’m supposed to wear them at work, but I don’t because customers already scream at me for writing passes too slowly (because of the carpal tunnel). The splints make me even slower. I hope the splints help you. They haven’t done much for me, but I probably don't wear them enough.

    1. I have to take it off to write. I don't have to write a lot at work, but when I do, it's in a very small space, and I cannot write small without full use of my thumb. I am trying to keep the faith. Hopefully with some PT I will get some relief.

  6. The shoes are so cute! I sadly can never wear Toms as there's no arch support for me. I have flat feet with non-existent arches and basically need something with support and/or room for my inserts that I wear for said support! Lol.

Nice new reads! Those are all new to me ones. I hope you enjoy them all!

  7. Oooh, I hope you enjoy Technically, You Started It, Sam! It was a super fun read, and I know you will enjoy. I can't wait to see what you think of American Royals, too. Wonderful post, Sam, and hope you have a great reading week! :)

    1. It certainly seems like I would enjoy Technically, and I was over the moon when I got the approval for American Royals. I loved McGee's previous series and this one is more contemporary - read, more me.

  8. Oh my god I am so in love with these shoes I NEED THEM in my life haha. They look amazing!!
I'm happy that you have no train tales this week, as entertaining as they are to read, they're never really fun when you have to live through them, I also happen to have my fair share of trouble with trains since I commute back and forth for work, too...so it feels nice when there are no trouble at all!
AMERICAN ROYALS on your list ahh this is so very exciting. I hope you will love it, I recently finished reading it and adored it so much :)
    I hope you'll have a lovely week <3

  12. What??? No train stories?? But that's great Sam! And if it makes you feel better I too suffer from arthritis even if I am not fifty yet .... Have alovely week.

    1. I hate to disappoint, but .... no I don't. A good week is a week without train stories. My brother-in-law works for an ortho, and he was saying that everybody basically has some arthritis, but it's about how much pain you can tolerate. Yeah, that was not very encouraging.

  13. I got those Tom's too!!!!! I'm so excited!

  14. YAY! No train tales this week! =D I also have carpel tunnel - it makes so difficult to write and lift objects. :(

You read seven books in a week?! =O That's so freaking amazing!!!!

    Wishes of a happy week!

    1. I read books I am really enjoy quite quickly. I was surprised by the number of books I got through, because many were over 400 pages, but like I said, they were so good. And, don't forget - I have no school, kids, husband. You can get a lot of reading done, when you have no responsibilities.

  16. You actually had a week where the trains ran as they're supposed to?! Wow! Sorry about the carpal tunnel :-/ I have chronic tennis elbow, so I know what that kinda constant pain is like. I love your sloth shoes!

    1. Well, the trains did what they were supposed to, more or less. Nothing major. I call that a win. Chronic pain sucks, and it seems like doctors have no answers for us.

  18. Yay for no train woes this week! That sucks about the carpal tunnel and the arthritis. I had wrist problems a few years ago and had to wear wrist guards on each wrist for 6 weeks. It was no fun but I have to admit that they felt much better afterwards and I haven't had much trouble with them at all since.

Those shoes are fantastic. Love them!

  19. No train drama/saga! Yes! Sorry to hear about your drs appt. It's annoying when they don't have a good fix for something. I hope the braces work out. Love your sloth Toms, and nice that you get to devote a day to helping people. :)

    1. Every single ailment I have is apparently unfixable, which is why I rarely go to the doctor. They seem to never be able to help, and it costs me money to get no answers. Oh, well. My company is big on volunteer work. They will give you time off to spend with organizations outside of the ones they work with too.

  20. Sorry about the carpal tunnel issues! But at least you have cute sloth shoes to look at to make yourself feel better. LOL! Hope you love Maybe This Time!!
